Wenger could lose Nasri but may gain transfer cash…

wengernew

by CARL ELDRIDGE Well, we said it might happen and it seems it will. Samir Nasri looks set to be charged with violent conduct after referee Steve Bennett told the Football Association he had not seen his alleged stamp on Hull’s Richard Garcia’s ankle at the Emirates on Saturday.

And this morning’s Daily Mail says video footage of the flashpoint which triggered a mass confrontation of players during the 3-0 win will be reviewed today by the FA. The referee told Hull players at the time that Nasri and Hunt had both been booked for their roles in the pushing and shoving which ensued, says the paper.

And it adds that Bennett is expected to tell the FA he would have shown Nasri the red card had he seen the stamp. If charged and found guilty, the France midfielder will be banned for three matches, ruling him out of the Premier League games against Aston Villa and Portsmouth and the FA Cup third-round tie at West Ham.

Away from the action, and this morning’s Sun reports that Stan Kroenke has moved to within 17 shares of the threshold which would force him into making a takeover bid for Arsenal.

The American business tycoon has bought up another 25 shares and is edging ever closer to the 30 per cent holding that requires him to make a formal offer to buy the entire stockholding, says the redtop.

His latest share acquisition is reported to have cost around £212,500 and he has gradually increased his stake in Arsenal this year through a number of different transactions. Arsenal’s other main shareholders are Uzbek tycoon Alisher Usmanov, who holds a stake of about 25%, Danny Fiszman, and Lady Bracewell-Smith.

And there could be a good few quid winging its way into AW’s transfer kitty, if you believe a report in this morning’s Mirror. They claim that he could be set for a huge cash windfall with Arsenal bidding to renegotiate their Emirates shirt sponsorship deal.

The Gunners feel they have sold themselves short with their £5million-a-year deal which has six years left to run.But that arrangement is dwarfed by Manchester United’s four-year contract – worth over £20m a season – with Aon, who will replace insurance giant AIG from the beginning of next season, says the Mirror.

Arsenal signed their long-term deals with Emirates at a time when the club were desperate to raise the £350m needed for their new stadium.

But they now believe they have the clout and the growing worldwide fan base to put themselves at least on course to earn as much as their Premier League rivals and the Gunners are actively looking to do so.

The papers adds that some experts believe Emirates may be open to negotiations after its owners reported a slump in profits in the year to April. Chelsea paid £24m to get out of its kit contract with Umbro before clinching their deal with Samsung. They then penned a new deal with Adidas.

If he gets the dosh, who will be his targets? The Mirror says AW has been linked with a move for highly-rated Inter Milan starlet Mario Balotelli, who would cost upwards of £15m, and is also keen on prolific young Barcelona striker Bojan Krkic while another target, Bordeaux’s Marouane Chamakh is available for as little as £2m as his deal expires in the summer.

I hope Nasri gets charged because any lawyer worth his salt could easily show it wasnt ‘violent conduct’. Yes it was a foul and probably unsporting conduct but I cant see him getting more than a red card for it and one match ban.
Sme people may disagree with wheeling out the lawyers every 5 mins, but it has to be done to protect the clubs from trial by media.

Well, I do hope that the lawyers defend him..

It is not logical for a player like Barnby to escape a ban after what he did.. But what do I know, he’s English, isn’t he?

It’s ridiculous to call it a stamp, it was more like Nasri STEPPED on Garcia’s foot (not his ankle). Garcia made it look like he’d been hit by a mac truck.

Good take on Nasri’s “marseillaise revenge” from Joel Che on the Arsenal-mania blog: “To my absolute surprise and shock, Samir Nasri is not on every headline this morning. A foreign player stamping off the ball – not just foreign but Arsenal and French – is media fodder. But thanks to Mark Hughes sacking and to Man United and Liverpool losing for keeping Nasri from the 24 hours news buzz. It will take Samir a season to get referees back on his side. In France and Italy, that sort of thing happens a lot. Players do it when they feel they are being wound up and fouled without protecting from the referee. It is a way to get back at the perpetrator without getting sent off but also where if he reacts wrongly from what he has been putting you through, then he would send himself off. It is conducted with stealth and intention when the ref is looking the other way and usually in a crowded area towards the lower body where the assistants and TV would have difficulty seeing clearly. It is a means of getting even without injuring the opponent or getting sent off. In England people get even on the ball and that is when they can cause terrible injuries and get sent off. Roy Keane would aim for the knee during play and put a player out for the rest of career, Zidane would headbutt on the chest of the ball. In most cases in France and Italy it is a pinch off the ball where nobody gets sent off or injured. Both are ugly and cynical but I rather prefer the type where all players to stay on the pitch and nobody leaves on a stretcher while the other gets red.”

The Hull player who who assaulted and shoved Nasri in the face committed a much more violent act than Nasri did.

I hope that’s true, yes he was a naughty boy for doing that but it wasn’t THAT bad.

The FA needs to crack down on player’s like Mascherano who seem to dive into potential career-ending tackles every week. I know he’s going to serve a 3 match ban, but that doesn’t seem to teach the man a lesson.

Nasri did not deserve a ban at all! it is silly to think that was a stamp! and Barmby raising his hands to a players face is deemed more violent yet he had nothing either…well still neither have been charged so we shall let it lay to rest!

good that nasri didn’t get banned. barmby should have done though because i don’t think he got booked which means the ref didn’t see it and looking at the video the fa should have banned him. actually i heard that nasri broke the guys toe nail and could be charged with assault. hope not cos then he’ll probably be out for the rest of the season.

i doubt that the story about renegotiating the sponsorship deal has much substance and even if there were a cash windfall i doubt wenger would spend much of it. anyway we still have some of the money from the adebayor and toure sales.

phil brown is orange and mark hughes deserved to be sacked just for abusing wenger throughout the last game. only bad thing is that citeh might have got a better manager now but we’ll have to wait and see

Are you serious? I know he’s a lot younger than Wenger, but he won two Serie A titles by default and did nothing in the Champon’s League with a good squad.
