Cesc could be sidelined for three weeks

fabregas10
by CARL ELDRIDGE We are led to believe that our worst fears to be confirmed today when skipper Cesc Fabregas undergoes a scan to determine the extent of the damage to his injured hamstring.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsene Wenger was forced to turn to Fabregas in Sunday’s meeting with Villa with the scoreline goalless. As we know, coming off the bench in the second half Fabregas produced a stunning 27-minute cameo, scoring twice before being forced off with a suspected recurrence of the injury which had keep him out for nigh on a fortnight.

Now the paper says we are now facing up to the prospect of losing their influential skipper for a further three weeks meaning he will miss Wednesday’s trip to Portsmouth, the FA Cup third round tie against West Ham and the two league encounters against Bolton which sandwich Everton’s visit to the Emirates.
If all goes according to plan, Fabregas should be available to play in the FA Cup fourth round on January 23rd providing Arsenal make it that far.

But the Mail adds that crucially Fabregas should be back to face Aston Villa and Manchester United in the Barclays Premier League at the end of next month. Meanwhile in the Sun this morning, Thomas Vermaelen reckons Fabregas’ vision is so good… he must have eyes in the back of his head.

Vermaelen said: “Cesc gives passes, a good line of defence and he is really dangerous. He has great vision on the pitch. He is the best midfield player I have played with. He is really smart.

“In training it is really difficult to defend against him. You’d think he had eyes in the back of his head because he sees everything. I’ve never seen a player come on before and have such an immediate impact.

“Before he came on I think we were the better team but we didn’t create too many chances. When he came on the pitch we controlled the game more and created some more chances.”

He added: “He is a good captain, he talks well in the dressing-room, although not too much, but just enough. He is very important for us. So is Robin van Persie who is also injured. But we have other midfielders who can fill Cesc’s position.”

Andrey Arshavin has also hailed Fabregas’ contribution to the Gunners’ charge towards their first title in six years – and wishes he was more like the Spanish maestro.

Russian Arshavin said: “Cesc changed the course of the game. I would so much like to play the way he does. It was brilliant how he came on for 20 or 30 minutes, scored twice and was then replaced.

“He was great. I very much hope his injury won’t put him out for long. For now I feel really happy that we could achieve a victory which we needed so much. The most important thing is that we narrowed the gap on Chelsea.”

Midfielder Denilson is also a doubt for Portsmouth as problems mount for Wenger, adds the redtop. The Brazilian will also find out today whether he needs a rest after feeling pain in his back. The same problem kept him out for two months at the start of the season.

And Alex Song has been given permission to join Cameroon after Sunday’s FA Cup game with West Ham as they prepare for the African Nations Cup, starting on January 10. Emmanuel Eboue has already left to join Ivory Coast.

    Dear dear dear.

The Daily Mail article you refer to (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1239046/Arsenal-fear-Cesc-Fabregas-ruled-weeks-injured-hamstring.html?ITO=1490) is a really poor piece of journalism, the gist of which is that Arsenal are worried that Fabregas may be out for three weeks. No shit – I think Wenger said that in the post Villa interview. They have badged this mundane and widely acknowledged piece of information into a scenario where Arsenal “expect” and “are now facing the prospect of” losing Fabregas for an extended period, without giving a single source for this revelation.

My gut feel is that Cesc probably will be out for a few weeks, but, like the Daily Mail, I don’t have any insider knowledge which makes my gut feel any more accurate or authoritative than the next man’s.

I would expect this kind of bollocks from the Mail (minions of king twat Martin Samuel that they are), but for a well respected and generally pretty decent Arsenal blog to regurgitate it to get a few more hits thanks to the sensationalist Newsnow headline is disappointing.

These chaps are spot on – http://anotherarsenalblog.blogspot.com/2009/12/lazy-mail-on-cesc.html.

You have to ask – when it is the Daily Mail, antichrist of newspapers, that is “leading you to believe”, why the fuck do you bother following?

Top result on Sunday – the whole team not just CF4′s spectacular impact from the bench. More of the same tomorrow night please. And get well soon Cesc!

I have to agree with Gooner Frank on this, faithfully repeating the speculation published in the tabloids is a pretty pointless exercise.

You would have done better to reprint Wenger’s comments to the effect that the extent of the injury is still to be assessed and a scan has been delayed to allow the injury to settle down.

frankly  i cant agree. arsenalinsider doesnt just pick and choose when to highlight a daily mail article. it would be wrong to post a good article from them (like the piece they did on the academy two weeks ago) but leave out whatever doesnt suit.

if you stopped reading, your critical minds would waste away to the point where you believe everything you read no?

i heard cesc had a bionic leg put in today …

Again I repeat the point of the daily round up is just that!! It’s a round up of all the tabliod news for that day. Most days we then follow this up with a more indeepth unique piece written on the back of the roundup.

It’s just a chance for people to quickly see what’s in the pappers that day relating to Arsenal- nothing more…

Then again if we can’t beat Bolton twice, Everton and Pompey without Cesc then we are in trouble!
Our “Cesc-less” games, if indeed he is out for three weeks, could hardly be better. I’m not unduly worried.

I haven’t forgotten West Ham in the Cup but I don’t reckon he’d have played anyway.
