Senderos Is Off To Everton

Everton have agreed a deal with Arsenal to bring in defender Philippe Senderos on loan until the end of the campaign.
The 24-year-old Swiss international joined the Gunners in December 2002, but has found himself surplus to requirements and spent last season on loan at AC Milan.

A statement on Everton’s website confirmed the deal is expected to be concluded in the coming days.

“Everton and Arsenal have agreed a deal to bring Swiss international defender Philippe Senderos to Goodison Park,” it said.

“The formalities of the transfer will be finalised in the next 48 hours and Senderos will be on Merseyside to watch his new team in action against Birmingham in the FA Cup fourth round.”

Senderos was a part of the Arsenal side which won the 2005 FA Cup at the expense of Manchester United and has 33 caps for Switzerland.

So Everton didnt pay the 3.5 mills that Arsenal asked last summer and now they got him for free. Brilliant!

Why Arsene didnt put him in an auction betwen the interested clubs (Bayern, Atletico, Celtic etc)?? 1, 2 or 3 mills is better than nothing!!

Maybe he’s going to see how he does at Everton and in the World Cup and then offer him a new contract!!! But i wouldn’t bet on it.

The thing is, he should have been on a longer contract like most of the players are so that they are worth more if they are to be sold. I know it means wage increases and its expensive but i don’t see why we (or any other club) ever let any first team players contract get to less than a year left. Unless the player absolutely refuses to sign in which case they should be sold before the contract runs out.

As it is we’ve had Flamini and now Senderos leave on a free when they should have either been sold sooner in Philippes case or had a longer contract in Famini’s case. saying that they do seem to have learned the lesson of flamini because loads of first team players have signed new long term contracts in the past year.

Exactly if we have a player with only one year on contract that player have to be resigned or be sold in that moment.

Thats why I think Arsene is making almost all the players to sign new contracts, not because all of them have a future in the club its more because some could be sold next summer.

Senderos hasn’t got the drive and determination required to make a quality defender yet, he’s still young and prone to making big mistakes in big matches.

He has the potential to be as good as Vermaelen if only he had the same passion and determination as Vermaelen.

Shame about Senderos, he was nicknamed “Swiss Tony” at the beginning of his Arsenal career which shows the esteem in which he was held.
A good reader of the game and brave too, his ‘achilles’ heel’ was his inability to match players once he was turned. Anyone with pace and close dribbling usually got the better of him.
I wish him well at Everton, he’s going to a good club.
And unlike Sol we probably won’t see him back at Arsenal,, a real shame for a player who was gong to be great for us, never quite happened.

Very true. It has been said that a few years back Wenger was thinking of making him captain. Obviously we can now see he made the right decision not to but it shows the opinion of the coaching staff of him back then.

Congratulation to Sanderos ! Now he has the chance to show his talent and to prove to Wenger just how much he had learned from all the loan spell he had. Wenger don’t seem to trust that Sanderos can handle the situation in BPL so he never used him even as a substitute. Poor guy was very patience so I hope this time he will succeed in telling the world he is a good footballer.
