Hello Robin, nice to see you my old Dutch!

Robin-Van-Persie-003
by CARL ELDRIDGE Could it be that we are to see Robin Van Persie back in action for the glorious Gunners before the end of the season? Well, that’s the claim in this morning’s papers with the Daily Mirror suggesting that RVP is on course to give our ‘title push a massive boost’ by returning for the last six games of the season.

The paper says Arsene Wenger had feared he would not see the Dutch striker again this term after the ankle ligament injury he sustained in a friendly with Italy in November. And it reminds us that RVP’s emergency dash to see controversial Serbian horse placenta doctor Marianna Kovacevic failed to work the magic the striker wanted.

But now Holland boss Bert Van Marwijk has revealed Van Persie could be back for the Gunners within six weeks. Van Marwijk said: “I spoke to Robin on the phone last week and he is improving all the time and feeling better. You can hear it in his voice that he feels he is improving. I hope that he will play at the beginning of April and he feels this is maybe possible. He is a very important player for me so it is very important for me that he is fit.”

Elsewhere there are AW quotes doing the rounds from an interview with the Arsenal mag in which he talks about the title push. The Mail carries them this morning: ’There are three clubs in the fight for the championship – when you see how much money the others have invested, we have not to be ashamed. There are two main trophies in our job – the Champions League and the Premier League; today, we can still win them both.

‘In addition, the club is in a healthy situation and we have a fantastic young side. If that is still not enough, I can understand, but we are fighting very hard to deliver. I believe that Arsenal fans can be very proud of their club, and that is at least what we try to give them – pride.’

Wenger added: ‘We were all bitterly disappointed against Manchester United and Chelsea, but at the end of the day, we had the sprit to respond. If we had just drawn both of those games, we would be in an unbelievable position, so we are very close – let’s give everything in the final games and we will see.

‘Regardless of outside perceptions, we share a great optimism here about the season,’ he said. ‘What other people think is less important – what happens here is the deciding factor, along with how much belief we put into our game. We are in a fantastic position and it is now about how we turn it our way.

‘The mathematics are easy – we just have to win our games. In the position we are in, we do not need to calculate – the best way is to win one game, and then win the next one.’

Looking the game at Stoke on Saturday and the paper says Abou Diaby (knee), William Gallas (calf), Andrey Arshavin and Eduardo (both hamstring) are fighting to be fit for the late kick-off at the Britannia.

The same paper says Ingolfur Sigurdsson could be making his way to us after the 17-year-old impressed during a trial. The Icelandic winger, who plays for KR Reykjavik, spent a week at our Hertfordshire training facility but has now returned to Iceland. The technically-gifted midfielder scored in appearance for the Under 16’s on Saturday, reports the paper.

Don’t forget to check out the site tomorrow when FTK will reveal the design for the new away shirt for next season.

Read that AW is continuing to buy more wc kids. If this season ends in nothing,I’m afraid he is deluded into thinking the kids will deliver in 2011.
The senior needs experienced players not wilshire, veal.
    This is derliction of duty.

stop getting so hung up on the kids issue. By getting these youngsters in, we are paying for our academy and training facilities. This is self sustaining and has no impact on the first team. If one or two make it (Cesc, Bendtner, Clichy), then it is worthwhile.

This should be seperate to the current day to day first team. We need to spend money on some experienced, world class players, but we are still needing to finance the stadium debt. This is a fact and it is not going away. Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City, all have massive levels of debt like we do. But we are managing ours.

gunnerjoy: U r right. He has been deluding himself now for long. He has stuck with Arsenal because he got us into debt with the Emirates stadium and he wants to see it through hence his insistence on youth whom he regards as a conveyor belt of mass production to sell on to the highest bidder. He read economics at the University didn’t he? That’s why he can come out and say we should be proud for winning nothing for 5 years but at the same time balancing the books.Stupid! Then again I believe Jose Mourhino would have won something with the same team at Arsene’s disposal for the last 3-4 years and that says a lot about our present incumbent. Thanks all and always up the Gooners!!!

    great points well made TJ.

on rvp i wouldn’t listen too much to that story. the player himself obviously wants to be back as soon as possible and if his national coach asks him when he’ll be back he will be optimistic so that the manager is more likely to consider him available for the world cup.

And of course the dutch manager wants him to play in the world cup. arsene should be more cautious when bringing him back and i think he will be.

Don’t listen to the so called experts.
Remember when Wenger first took over they claimed that no foreign coach could succeed in English football. They were wrong. They claimed Wenger would have to ditch the old guard at the back, they were wrong.
They told us that the cost of building the new stadium would hinder us and we would be playing in front of a half empty stadium.
For how many years now have they been predicting that we would fall out of the top 4? They were wong on that issue too.
In fact this year the team that looks most likely to drop out of the top 4 is Liverpool, and so many experts were predicting that this would be the year they would finally win the title with Arsenal being replaced by Man City or Spurs.
Looks like the experts are maintaining their 100% record of being wrong.

On a slightly different note, many fans were clambering for us to sign Shay Given. Didn’t exactly cover himself in glory last night at Stoke did he.

And what a mug Adebayor is for getting sent off. We needed him to play against Chelsea as he only gets up for the big games.

dominic, you are right but i think their predictions are closer to their hopes, rather than their genuine analysis.

wasn’t it great havinf slaven bilic on the sofa at the weekend. hansen looked like a little schoolboy. lawro looked like a washed up corpse at dover in his grey shirt. if he shut his eyes it would look like he had been lying dead in the studio for about a month.

to be honest i agree with you a bit de gunner. but i think buying, improving and selling is part of the game. i guess the problem is wenger doesnt re-invest a sensible proportion of that money back into strenghtening the squad.

but then tj is also right, we shouldnt get so hung up on buying all these youngsters. it’s good to have a quality academy and i think some of them have been valuable to the typical arsenal season with injury after injury. wouldnt gibbs be a good one to have around right now? djorou is a blow and im more impressed with ramsey every times he plays even if he wasnt arsenal from his wonder years.

I still think Given would have been a better option then Almunia. He’s saved more points for Man City then lost them this year, as without him and Tevez City would be nowhere near the top 4 this year.

I agree, Given is a better option than Almunia, but my point is that any keeper will make mistakes. And you can be lucky and it doesn’t cost you, or unlucky and it does.

Remember Given also screwed up against Chelski, although they still won that game.

I will be supporting City this weekend and Man Utd also. Martin O’Neill is beginning to get on my tits.

friedel in an arsenal shirt would be nice… 2-3 years ago. now too late, move on. really like him tho!
lets get rvp back so that he can get a good runout in of a few games so he can go off and play well for his national team. NOT!!! he comes back for arsenal when appropriately fit and national team can live with it. or they can start paying his 100 grand a week wages throughout the year.
there is NO issue that has caused arsenal more trouble this year than rvp’s injury!! you guys go on and on about aw’s decisions. I don’t know why anyone else is not as upset about the national team situation as me. he was playing in a f’ing friendly and put out for 6 months!!! there was no need! how is a friendly in november going to help them in june of the following year? ans. you use the game to field fringe and younger players to see what there made of not put forth your best striker… or be willing to pay his wages if he gets hurt.

I am angry about the amount of international games but if we’re honest rvp is injury prone.

don’t know what it is about players coming to arsenal. Rosicky had never even had a moderate injury before coming to arsenal.
Now arshavin is injured despite being consistently free from injury. Eduardo (i know that was a freak tackle). Even Sagna and Clichy 2 of the fittest athletes in the world are suddenly getting injured.

Forget about RVP,any sightings of him this term will be a miracle the way our luck is going.More importantly is the news on Gallas. His fitness or lack of it is going to be the deciding factor in whether our season reaches a glorious finale! Come on you Reds!
