Gallas to miss Stoke clash

gallas5
by CARL ELDRIDGE It looks like it’s down to Tommy Vermalen and Sol Campbell to repel the Stoke invaders at the Britannia tomorrow as we try to grab a vital three points against Tony Pulis’ long-ball machine.

That’s because William Gallas has suffered what the Daily Mirror has called ‘a major injury setback’ which could threaten his place for our Premier League title push.

The red top says Gallas, 32, broke down in training on Tuesday after a recurrence of a back injury and is out of the game. And AW admits that he does not know when the French centre half will return which also puts a major question mark for the Champions League second leg with Porto in a fortnight.

AW said: “With Gallas we don’t know. Gallas has had a recurrence of his calf injury. He tried hard on Monday and Tuesday but on Tuesday he had a little problem again. We will have to assess that.”

So Sol will partner TV5 at Stoke as we try to close the gap on United and the Chavs. And the paper goes on to say we will also be without Andrey Arshavin and Abou Diaby but both are expected to return for the home fixture with Burnley on Saturday week. Fit-again Eduardo is to return to training todayand could be in the squad for Stoke.

Meanwhile, the renaissance man himself, Emannuel Eboue, has his say on the trip to the Potteries in the Times. He said “We don’t want to change our performances – we will always try to play our way. We must be patient, clever and focused on Saturday and remember that it will be very difficult for them as well as us. We lost against them before but we have to go there to win.”

Eboue says he would not be surprised if our flow is interrupted by a stream of fouls. “It is always like this and not just in this league. Even in the Champions League we play teams who always try to kick us because they know we are so quick with the ball. We are very technical and that’s why we get kicked but we must play our football,” he said. “It doesn’t matter if they kick us, we must do our thing and always believe in ourselves. Many people say Arsenal are not strong enough. They say we have got too many young players but we play our own football. We don’t like to give the ball away and want to play on the attack.

“We need to win a trophy this season for our club. It has been such a long time since we did something,” Eboue added. “To be a good family, we must win something together. For me, I don’t think Fabregas, me or William [Gallas] will leave this club. We have still got contracts with Arsenal. We are Arsenal players and I think we all want to win something together.”

Elsewhere in a slow news day for the Arsenal, the Daily Mail says Theo Walcott is on track for his first England game of an injury-hit season.  The paper says Walcott, 20, was told he is in Fabio Capello’s provisional squad and has a good chance of making the cut on the right wing, with T********’s Aaron Lennon missing the friendly against Egypt on Wednesday through injury.

Listen, Theo, most diehard Gooners I know don’t give so much as a flying hoot for England these days so swerve the game and keep fir for the Royal Arsenal!

I wonder if we had players in the England squad like we used to, Seaman, Adams, Keown, Wright, Dixon etc, if your diehard Gooner friends would still have an interest in England. Or if JT and Frank Lampard, or Wayne Rooney were playing for us. Of course they would.

I want to see Theo playing for England. And Gibbs when he is fit. I think it is a good thing when our players represent their country.

Injuries may make all arsenal players contribute to this season silverware through rotations, and a suprise to many fans.

Cambell at a push for the WC squad? He’s probably played more Prem games than Rio this season …

Gibbs late call when Capello realises Baines, Warnock and Lescott are actually pony.

Walcott turns it on to bring the European Cup and Prem to the Emirates and gets the nod ahead of a still injured lennon, SWP and Becks.

Sanchez Watt returns to action this weekend for Southend, where Fabs has been invited to watch and is so impressed by the kid he takes him ahead of Micheal Owen and the other United striker Own Goals.

Wilshere doesn’t make the cut because Coyle keeps him on the bench like a dick.

Jimmy, you didn’t really respond to the point. Are you bothered about England?

The only problem I have with any AFC player representing their country is that they get crocked and we lose an important player.

    TJ,

i guess i didn’t respond. I doubt there is much to say really. I am bothered whole heartedly about England. But I will be supporting our country at the World Cup regardless of how many Arsenal players there are. If Rooney scores, I’ll be jumping just as high as any United fan.

And I’ve never been bothered about the Chelsea, United, Liverpool, Spurs, West Ham fans who have a dig because we might not represent England as much. Nobody from Accrington Stanely plays for England but does that mean their fans have less right to cheer the national team on? No it doesn’t, and the same applies for us.

I’m not sure if I answered your question. In short, of course it’s a good thing to have Arsenal players representing the country, but it won’t make me a less avid fan if we don’t.

BRING IT HOME FABIO (our non-Arsenal, non-English manager) :-)

its good for our players to play for their countries but i’m getting fed up of the national teams playing them when they are not fully fit and then the players get injured. national team managers don’t care about the players getting injured because they always have months to recover before the next pointless international break.

honestly i probably would care more about england if there were more arsenal players in the team. I have confused and mixed feelings about it. I want the team to do well and the country to have something to be proud of but at the same time I dislike many of the players so much that i don’t want them to succeed. I don’t think i could bare to see ashley cole lifting the world cup… but i still want england to win it…

First off. I want to see Arsenal players playing for Arsenal only. I was born Arsenal & will die Arsenal. I can live without international foot ball but not my club. Ask yourself this before you give me a thums down. Regarding foot ball & foot ball only are you English or Arsenal first & formost.
As for Sol at the W/E . I trust he will have a good game, hopefully he will cut out the long throwins by that talentless pratt & get his foot elbow & anything else hard in on there strikers, just like they do to us. I think in this match I would like to see Eboue next to him in the right back slot.
