Ramsey suffers serious injury

aaron-ramsey
Arsenal have reacted angrily after midfielder Aaron Ramsey suffered a serious injury that echoed the broken leg sustained by team-mate Eduardo da Silva in 2008.

Shawcross left the field in tears, while players from both sides were visibly traumatised as medics administered emergency treatment and gave Ramsey oxygen.

The game was stopped for several minutes before Ramsey was stretchered into an ambulance and driven away from the Britannia Stadium.

Sky television decided not to show replays of the challenge because they considered the footage to be too upsetting.

Manager Arsene Wenger said the injury was a consequence of the excessively physical approach teams take against his side.

“I am not very happy with the tackle,” he said.

“We have lost three players – (Abou) Diaby, Eduardo and Ramsey – for nine months or a year on horrendous tackles.

“I don’t believe in coincidence when it happens as often as this.”

Arsenal went on to win the game 3-1 with goals from Nicklas Bendtner, Cesc Fabregas and Thomas Vermaelen after Danny Pugh opened the scoring for Stoke.

Speaking after the game, Fabregas called for referees to stamp out on dangerous challenges, saying: “You could say we are not protected enough. I think so.”

Croatian striker Eduardo missed nearly a year with a compound leg fracture following a tackle by Birmingham City’s Martin Taylor in 2008. Diaby was injured after a challenge by Sunderland’s Dan Smith two years earlier.

We obviously wish Aaron a speedy recovery. More on this to follow…..

I am disgusted that yet again and for the 3rd time in 5 seasons, we have had a player assaulted on the pitch by a player who is encouraged by everyone that to beat Arsenal you need to be physical.
It’s time Arsenal as a club take some severe action, why not use legal avenues to persue these thugs who are maiming our players? Or take our players off of the pitch.
Something has to stop, if this happened on the street Shawcross would be sitting in a 6×6 cell right now looking at a charge of GBH.
    GET WELL SOON AARON.

It is time that any club who employs players who commit illegal tackles, should pay the salary of the stricken victim: until the victim of the illegal tackle has fully recovered. Tackles from behind should be an immediate red card. The offending clubs/managers would find the insurance premium too high for some of the cynical players/managers at present employed. The Allardyce/Brown/Hughes etc., would not be employable. Referees are too soft on the gung-ho bully boys. Where has the shuddering shoulder tackle, without the cynical elbow to the ribs, seems to have disappeared. We have rugby league tackling allowed by callow referees.
To young Ramsay “firmes, siempre firmes!”

These types of plays happen all the time in football, you see them in every match. However, some of the inexperienced players like to get ‘stuck in’ as they say, in this instance both players are at fault for the contact, but unfortunately one of them is badly injured. Given edu’s injury was a complete dislocation, I think Ramsey will be back in one year, he’ll be back and wiser for it.

Shawcross has been kicking people up in the air for the last couple of years, and getting away with it. Last year at their place he single-handedly forced us into 2 substitutions due to his thug tackles.

As for today, well, I’m sure he he didn’t mean to break his leg, but I’m 100% sure he meant to hurt him. Seriously, what was he, a centre half, doing making a challenge like that in the opposing team’s half?

Anyway, Shawcross isn’t entirely to blame. He had his orders from the boss, and he carried them out. Pulis should be pulled up, but of course, he won’t.

All the best Aaron. I wish you a speedy recovery.

It has happened once again, i guess BBC and SKY sports presenters will be happy now because they are the once in the center of comments like “to beat a free flowing Arsenal, you have to be hard and tough on your tackles. You need to be compact and do not give them space to pass the ball”. Todays incident is a result of such negative comments. Come on guys football is a game!
Kuddles to the team! I love the way they all fought back to win this for ramsey. I wish you quick recovery mate!

The challenge was just simply wreckless – like hundreds of others which we have to put up with from players who do not have a chance of getting the ball, but what can we do, Pulis reckons he cant harm a fly! I’ve had enough of teams like this, how many of our players must suffer? I have sent an email to the FA and premierleague, I hope everyone else does too.

It’s not just Arsenal suffering, English football is. Look at Robinho, Ronaldo, Henry… does anyone really think Messi,Benzema, and any other world world class players would want to come to this kind of league where your leg could be amputated from a thug challenge?

The managers and FA must take responsibility and stop brushing it off like Pulis did. He told his players exactly how to rough us up

That was the thing I was thinking, does a young talented player who has offers from England, Spain or Italy will want to go to a league where this kind of things happen.

But I think its more common of what we think, just for giving an example one of the best left backs in Spain, Filipe Luis, broked his ankle a couple of months ago but it was completely accidental. In england when this things happen have a little bit of malice.

it must be started up with ref. this dickhead must be banned from refereeing.

If the same thing happened to Terry or Rooney or anyone who is going to represent England in the WC..then im sure everyone would want that no good son of a gun Shawcross’s head on a plate..but since there is no threat to the England players then it’s ok..Stoke knew Arsenal were too good for them..and too quick..so what do they do? Bolton style..crush tackles..scare the Arsenal…I just hope that freak of a player Shawcross would pay for what he did…I hope the FA would slam a huge ban on his ass…

Let’s not give up now lads..the road to the title is a bumpy and tough ride…lets win this for Ramsey..

Hope Ramsey gets better soon…we hate to see a young talent stop playing for Arsenal…

Only way to beat Arsenal is to get bit more physical and bully them off the pitch!
Thats the mantra and mentality the teams come with when they play against us. Arsene has highlighted the point time and time again but the bastard media and so called experts and pundits and even FA have scoffed and ridiculed him!

About time some of this British managers who advocate thuggish football are booted out of the premier league!

His body may recover quicker but mentally eduardo still hasn’t recovered and with aaron being so young this will be major problem for his career. even diaby doesn’t go in for some tackles because obviously in the back of his mind he will be thinking about the possibility of injury. And who can blame him??

Hey guys I have sent the FA the following..let me know what you think:

Hello my name is Hamzeh Al-Karmi from Jordan. I am an Arsenal fan and I would like to mention the issue regarding Aaron Ramsey’s horror of an injury. Yet another dangerous tackle and yet another player who enjoys playing football get hammered into reality with that ugly tackle by Ryan Shawcross. If Ramsey’s lucky he should be playing again after a long spell of recovery, if not, then might as well hang in his boots at the age of just 19. Tackles coming from players who were instructed by their manager to “roughen up” the other side is as sad as the manager who supports it. The English Premier League should be about playing fair and not playing rough. Players like Aaron Ramsey who see such great players like Rooney, Gerrard or Theo Walcott would inspire to give it a go and try their best. But when their legs are torn apart and broken they fear the worst, and if they do manage to recover physically…mentally will be very hard. I love watching the EPL, but watching that tackle yesterday sent quivers down my spines. As wise the FA is, These tackles should not go unanswered. If the club, manager, players and family can not protect that young inspiring player who dreams to represent England in the World Cup…Then I’m positive the F.A will.

I won’t go into screaming and cursing because I know it’s not the way to express sheer frustration about tackles like those. So I hope The F.A would do something about tackles like that to send a message that the EPL is as good as it comes and no other league can come head to head with it. But if tackles like this remain unpunished then might as well use punches to take a player down.

I appeal to you on behalf of me and the other Arsenal fans to protect the youngsters and fair play. Let’s not let a bad tackle go unpunished…Please?

    Thank you for your time.

    Regards,

why the fuck are you sorry for shawcross?? this is exactly the problem with the culture of english football that the offender gets the sympathy for being a twat. he should be banned for at least 15 games and as long as we keep saying “oh he’s a nice guy and he didn’t mean to hurt him” these tackles will continue to ruin the careers of the best players.

Its the failure of the FA and the media to punish these players that means that thuggery will continue and the best players careers will be destroyed. And the stupidity of people to suggest that its our fault for being too quick!! fuck off

its not just arsenal although we have the victims 3 times. these tackles happen all the time and only some of them result in injury but all of them should result in long bans until systematic thuggery employed by teams like stoke and bolton is cut out.

The FA did take swift action over Shawcross.

They gave him an England callup.

Apparently they were worried that they may get to the knock out stages in South Africa with no player to to get a stupid sending off so they could go out on openalties which would never do.

All teams and supporters enjoy building up their players. ‘Rambo’ for instance, we can complain all we want but it’s become the mentality of the game to play rough in the epl. Combine that factor with throwing on teenagers to play against bruisers like stoke and we’ve got issues.

Shawcross is a product of the football supporters mindset, glorifying the world’s toughest, most physical league, as it happens that’s the league we play in. Our style of football, preferred by us, does cut against the grain with regard to the rest of the league. That factor combined with younger, lighter players, though quicker, but not quick enough on this occasion, usually spells trouble.
