Arsenal And Ramsey Pay The Price For Trying To Preserve The Game

aaron-ramsey
It’s the year 2025, and the England School of Throw-Ins at Burton continues to churn out the best talent in the country. The national football centre was converted three years back under the orders of England manager Tony Pulis. Players are no longer built to pass and move. They are trained to throw and spend five hours a day eating and putting on bulk. On introduction to the academy the players watch a montage video of short-sighted madcap tackling. Globally, the long-throw in tactic has spread like an epidemic disease. Gates in England are at an all time low! The game is in dark decay.

by JAMES CURTIS I must chose my words carefully this morning. I am angry but that bitterness is overridden by a disappointment, firstly for Aaron Ramsey and secondly for football. People laugh at Wenger. They mock his ideas on football, they provoke him at press conferences, only because they do not share the vision or the intelligence of the man. Wenger warns us, he even tries to guide us, and when what he says becomes a chilling reality as it did yesterday we stand silent.

I write with caution mainly because the Ryan Shawcross tackle still leaves me undecided. People criticised the referee for allowing the game to spiral into a moment where we had to witness Ramsey’s foot dangling half off. To that point though I was enjoying how Peter Walton allowed play to flow which is a rarity in English football. The tackle? Not high, not over the ball and no studs showing.

Still, too often are Arsenal the gopher because of this idea that to beat Arsenal you have to be physical. Players are basically encouraged to put in unnecessary tackles, in unnecessary parts of the pitch and lose all thought of the consequence. Do it enough and the result will only ever be Arsenal coming off with broken body parts. Shawcross did not intend the outcome, but he can hardly be surprised.

Stoke cannot attract the type of player Arsenal do, so must live within their means. This forces them into organised football and deep defending, but when a Premier league side appear unable to string more than three passes together, something is wrong. Clearly Stoke spend more time on the training field wiping down wet balls and coming up with throw-in routines to the level where they forgot the fundamentals. How embarrassing then, that the most excited the home fans got was when Rory Delap requested a towel. Further more, this won him man of the match.

Shawcross will miss just three matches for an act that leaves Ramsey unable to play football for at least a year. Next to that, Alex Song will miss only one game less for collecting 10 yellow cards. And for what, simply doing his job? Song plays in a position where a yellow card every game is a possibility and if referees could give out give the same punishment to players who pull shirts and play cynically, there might be some even ground.

Instead, what happens is Arsenal pay the price for attempting to play within the rules to the best they can. Arsenal will always be pulled up more when they don’t though because England like to hold Wenger as a hypocrite. They are not complete saints and have taken dives and made bad tackles. But Patrick Barclay highlighted the difference this morning, suggesting that Eduardo didn’t follow through on his shot that went wide of the post because he was afraid of the incoming challenge and memories of his own broken leg in 2008. The Times writer also said he will never really be the same again.

Barclay also said that Arsenal have more fibre and more backbone than any other team, quite the opposite of the average assumption. The Gunners overcame another nightmare situation yesterday to take home three points and close the gap on Chelsea. Maybe Arsenal are not as good as the blues and Manchester United although at present that would be based on the last four years and not the last four weeks. This is the misconception: Arsenal do have a sterner backbone, they just don’t have the same quality. Slowly though, even that is changing.

Frankly, the last week has been a shambles, taking focus off of what is most important – THE GAME! John Terry’s pathetic tabloid extravaganza with Wayne Bridge, Portsmouth’s sad decline into administration, Ashley Cole’s divorce, and Aaron Ramsey’s unjust punishment for having a boundless ability that takes reckless tackles to scupper. All the while Arsenal and Arsene Wenger are trying their hardest to preserve the game but people try their utmost to grind their bones to dust.

Until the managers, players and clubs are held to account, this thuggery will continue.

Instead of concentrating on how they can improve their players technique and skill these managers inculcate thuggery.

Unfortunately, the spineless FA will do fuck all to remedy this mindless violent behaviour.

Love U Rambo Love U Arsenal.

“Not high, not over the ball” :o
Ramsey had his leg snapped in half and the contact was halfway up his lower leg. Your comment is utterly ridiculous.

Well done, I feel the same way.
I hope that Aaron gets fit and weel soon.

Shawcross may not have ment to break his leg but he went to kick the ball away the same force. Why/how can you justify that when he was late. the ref did not gibe a red card because of the break, he gave it because shawcross was slow and it was bad a bad tackle.

I would also like to say that Commentators say that the arsenal player was too quick, but the reality is that the other players are too slow and can not read the game as well as Arsenal players because they are not good enough.

The are many teams in the premiership that can not string 5 passes together without having to run after the ball.

Many commentator say get in amongst arsenal to stop them playing. WHAT THIS REALLY MEANS IS KICK EVERY ARSENAL YOU GET NEAR.

    Thanks for reading.

It wasn’t high like we usually condemn tackles not around his mid leg but I’m not using this to justify anything. It was still a terrible assault but not like taylors

Im arsenal through and through but right now Im not going to comment on the tackle, the injury or about any vendetta against us because I think its all been said. One thing I would like to do is commend Nicklas Bendtner for his reaction after the challenge. Understandably, most players couldnt deal with it. Bendtner, still only 21 years of age, went straight to Ramsey and stayed by his side comforting him right up until the time he was carried off. That shows maturity, strength in character and strong support for your team mates. Well done Nick, as a gunner, I’m proud. Ramsey, wishing you a speedy recovery!

The last time a team did this they got relegated, its somehow late 4 stoke now. I just hope they lose all remaining matches. So if d tackle’s not high billy or wateva, so how come he suffered a double break like dudu. Pls put on ur specs. Stoke shit. Consisting of Animal footballers, trying to play football in d animal way. Shawcross, Taylor, etc. Crocking hard tackles. Rem. It was this same shawcross that crocked Ade. outside d playing pitch last season. Clueless cunts playing football thinking its legball. Wicked football!

Agreed. Good job to Nick. Eboue was there the whole too. And it was great to see the team together at the end united. Hopefully this can be a catalyst for the remainder of the season. Another regret is that most people wont pay much attention to how this was one of our best performances of the year. Away to stoke winning the “physical” battle and dominating in every area. Great to see but horrible to watch.

If anything Shawcross’s was worse because of the excessive force he used but comparing two disgusting tackles is pretty difficult. It was around his mid leg as well. At least we agree it was a terrible assault.

as a neutral watching the game I thought a red card was quite harsh.

There was no intent, just slightly late (a bit like Taylor on eduardo, but not as bad as that one). shawcross has never had a red card in his life before that, and you could see how devestated he was

If it happened to a Wolves player I would probably have reacted the same way as most arsenal fans have.

well done on this win, you showed some real spirit there and I’d much rather arsenal win it than manure or chelski

what i was getting at is that the ball wasnt bouncing and it wasnt one of those off the floor two footed tackles. and i guess if anything this makes shawcross’s tackle a hell lot worse if he could still leave rambo like that. it shows you the force of what happened

billy i just read your reply and i think we agree there. it wasnt a tackle that had me immediately shouting at the scree and thats why it is unusual. but yes you are right about the force of shawcross injuring player before and the knob still plays the same.

oskar read my comments above, it clears what i meant up. i think tackles can still be at the level shawcross was and be controlled. obviosuly there isnt an ounce of control in the boy or his manager for letting him loose.

cygooner, it really was a quality show by the team to win. the man im looking to though is cesc. he was such a fucking leader out there and we seriously need to do everything to keep hold of him. i think the man proved yesterday how he deserves the mnoney same the highest paid players get, give it to him, and how much he tries for the club. hell arsene, pay it out of your own pocket if you have to, get a loan or something, second mortgage, whatever it takes. odiegooner i think billy was saying it was high. i was trying to get at how it was round the side more than those front on lunges. we came to the conclusion that shawcross’s must have been worse to have been that way but still done so much damage, showing the force of the guy and his idiotic manager to allow him to keep doing it. has nobody once told him to calm down! the best defenders, like bobby moore, knew how to be great and stay on their feet. or at least my west ham supporting dad tells me. im sure vermaelen is better.

louie, it was definately a red card. he broke somebody’s leg which meant he was excessive, he was late and he was a danger being on the pitch. and even if that isn’t true the game would have gone mental if shawcross stayed on the pitch. there would have been a pile up of injuries following.

the arsenal showed why they do have a backbone and i hope its the end of the debate. this season we have shown on loads of occassions the same display. comes backs and late goals together with bravado and battle.

Get with the program guys, it was a hideous injury to Ramsey, but hardly malicious.

You can tell by the defenders reaction he didn’t mean it. Replays even demonstrated that it was fairly innocuous, and certainly not the two footed styled challenges that you see week in week out. It was a clumsy challenge that resulted in a freak injury.

Fair play to Shawcross for showing remorse immediately. To claim it was anything but an accident is just paranoia to the nth degree. I just hope that Ramsey can fully recover as he looks an excellent player.

LET’S COMMEND STOKE’S #6( is it Wheelan?) WHO WAS THERE FIRST TO ATTEND TO RAMSEY AND THE ENTIRE TIME.He was the one that held his head, talked to him the whole time and comforted him, Nick then was there too. I thought some of our players were more tuned to the outrage , going after the mindless thug, and the referee then immediately attending to their mate.you saw they were out of sorts,Vermaelen , Fab, Sol, still I was a bit dissappointed in that moment, with their outrage rather then compassion.

By the way – what a result. and with chelski losing we are right back in it. This injury could be a defining moment in our season as it was when eduardo was injured. Only this time we won the game and it will spur the team on and make them more united.

Do you think it was sol who suggested the huddle at the end of the game. I haven’t seen that for a few years now.

well why not to drink and drive if you have no intent to kill or cripple someone? what the hell to be cautious on slippery road and lower speed if no such intent? in the long run its driving and not ballet… never brake before crosswalk if you had no intent to knock down someone in million years. you dont have to learn how to drive unless you have ferrari but you still gotta get where you want. you mummy with you.

one lesson to learn; the shawcrosses and taylors of the world are the reason england will never win the world cup, unless the english attitude changes. it’s th reason some of us decided to stop supporting england! my question to you the english though, how would the press react if it were a wayne rooney, for example, whose leg was shattered-more so by an arsenal player? i buy the idea i read today on one blog: why not bring one foreign referees to handle the premier league?

db10, sol has had a massive influence on our season in the short space of time he has played. i wrote a piece on here when he arrive saying it could only be a good move, he has a winning mentality and signing sol, who last appeared playing for arsenal in the champs league final sounds like a title winning story.

im not sure if he organised the huddle. cesc, theo and clichy were at the heart of it too, but i will say i loved sol’s fist pumping, on leg on the hoarding celebration. so camp

another thing to consider is the talk about has this arsenal team changed? still the same! in some areas they are – losing big games, silly mistakes etc – but in others areas they have improved, and stoke says it all. two years ago we couldnt win in the same circumstance. this year we did and now even alan hansen is admitting he is beginning to like arsenal. I REPEAT, HOW TIMES CHANGE !!

im not sure this would stop the sort of tackling we sometimes get, most of that is down to english management, and in england the old guard will survive unless they systematically choke on their chewing gum. how amusing to see rafa makes the media laugh at fat sam’s expense …

This is a different Billy and he’s talking utter s**t.

Ryan Shawcross is the same person who broke Francis Jeffers’s ankle with a tackle from behind in 2007 because he was angry. He nearly broke Adebayor’s ankle when he wasn’t even on the pitch in our match with them last year and nearly broke Cesc’s foot in the cup match a couple of months ago.

He’s a thug and went into that tackle recklessly high and with completely unnecessary force. He had one aim and that was to get the ball but hit Aaron as hard as he could in doing so. He may not have necessarily wanted to break his leg but he certainly wanted to leave his “mark”.

He’s a disgusting individual but once again its not his fault cause he loves his mum, has no previous and wouldnt hurt a fly. B******t.

Get well soon Aaron. It’s a pity your not able to play because off a thug not the innocent, honest English professional he is portrayed.
