TONY ADAMS EXCLUSIVE: We CAN win title

TA
by CARL ELDRIDGE Arsene Wenger must instill belief into his young Arsenal stars to convince them they ARE capable of winning the Premier League title.

After beating West Ham and United winning and Chelsea dropping points we are very much in three-way battle for the top flight crown and the legend that is Tony Adams has told arsenalinsider.com that our players must have faith in themselves if they are to snatch the silverware.

“I don’t think Arsene’s players realise what an unbelievable chance they have of winning the title,” said Adams, who lifted four top flight crowns for us. “They should have been dead and buried a long time ago but Chelsea and United have let them back into it several times and now we are the business end of the season they can win it.

“But the players must realise that the remainder of their games in the run-in are all to with getting your mentality right, having the focus to see the season off. The rest of the games are in their minds.

“I think I am right in saying that only two of the current squad, Sol Campbell and Gael Clichy, have won the title and know what it takes so Arsene must somehow give them belief, not that he needs advice from me!” quipped Adams, who made 504 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 32 goals.

Wenger has been forced to rely on veteran Sol Campbell, 35, as cover for crocked William Gallas alongside Thomas Vermaelen and Adams reckons the powerfully built ex-England star will do well to keep up his fitness.
“Sol is what you would call a ‘big unit’ and I think he needs to play games to maintain his match fitness because you kind of think that if he stops he will struggle. He is playing alongside Vermaelen — who for me is the Arsenal player of the season — and the balance is right, and better than with Mikael Silvestre in that position.”

*Adams was speaking courtesy of Nationwide Building Society, the proud sponsor of the England team.  The Giant England shirt is touring the country before it heads to South Africa.   Find out more at www.nationwidefootball.co.uk{jcomments on}

    We certainly can, Tony!
But we have a huge game coming up against Birmingham, probably with Sol and Song playing together. That is quite a challenge, if Arsene will take the chance. Maybe he goes for the “safe” solution, Sol and Silvestre, but that seems no where near safe to me.
Let`s just hope we can score one more goal than them, this could be proven to be a crucial game.

Remember when Tony was spouting off about how Vermaelen wasn’t the guy for the job? Funny how he’s praising him now.

Strange. This is the same legend Mr. Tony Adams, who was so sure of TV as a defender we needed. The same man who only last week on Sky said we dont have it to win it and now he says the players dont realise they can we it, How daft these players must be not to know what lies ahead. We are tired of those who seem to know.

Ah, Tony Adams, who still remembers that goal against Everton? Absolute beauty.

Vermaelen will be a miss due to his suspension. Campbell has been great since he rejoined us. I did have my doubts at first but he has been a very useful asset to us since his return.

I would place Song at the back until Vermaelen returns. It’s a shame Djourou got injured because he has great talent and would have been useful for backup. Silvestre might have the experience but I have never rated him and thought there were better options in the market at the time.

Nonetheless, we got a title to get our hands on. All abroad boys!
doubt weather Sol will play the brummies this weekend as he will be needed during the week against u know who..
Maybe you`re right, but Sol has proven he can play twice in one week, when rested one week ahead. And the brummies game seem to me just as important.

And against Barca we can play Song/Vermaelen as well in my opinion.

Tony Adams was on Sky last weekend saying Arsenal can’t win it. Unfortunately our ex-boys like to tow converntional wisdom in the media instead of sometimes just rally around the side.

our players and managers talking how great barcelona are and even if we loose both epl and ecl wenger will give excuses like 1- players r still learning 2- vital injuries 3- over-physical oppositions 4- i believe future is bright but now is the time to shut it and stop gloryfing barcelona and storm through ecl and epl against all odds rather than making fool out of us all arsenal fans by arsenal management.excuse me for my english!

no way. we need song in the midfield. Rest sol at birmingham and play song and silvestre at the back and play sol and verms in defence for barca.

Lets see if sol can keep up his 100% record of scoring against barca in the champions league!

I’ve never really rated Tony Adams’ opinion anyway. Don’t get me wrong he’s a legend but the way he thinks he knows better than wenger is mad. preaching after his spell at portsmouth? pft.

On a different subject, I work with Joe Cole’s brother, and apparently he and his representatives have met up and all but agreed a deal for him to move here in the summer on a free of course. I said we didn’t need him really! but experience is always good.

We need a striker because we are not finishing teams off and we may struggle against Barca. Hopefully Arshavin Vela and Eduardo should fill in the gap. If only wishes were horses, I wish Eduardo can get his spark back before RvP comes back.Eduardo looks fragile and lacking in confidence. having said that, einning the Premeir league Yes, I think we Can.

My concerns are three teams we are going to mee:ManCiteh,TotScum and Blackburn. Blackburn can give us a real run but if the confidence of the team high we should be able to grin results against thie those three teams but it will take some real diggin in. If we lose any of those then bye bye to our Premier league titke credentials.

Before Barca we have Birmingham at home and they are bit difficult on their turf so before any alleluya we must go past this team first. After Barca at home next week we might be jaded a bit but I hope we will overcome.

Tony Adams is a proper legend. I was in the crowd when Mr Arsenal scored two goals in that game at Highbury against Everton. Yeah he has had a pop or two at us, but no worse than any of you out there. Tony’s entitled to his opinion more than anyone, but that doesn’t mean he’s right

im sure most of you have, but if not do read adams’ autobiography ‘addicted’.

my favourite will always be merse. he said arsenal will need new lightbulbs in the scoreboard against west ham because the score would be 6,7 or 8 nil. then somebody told him parker wasnt playing to which he said make that 9 :D

arsenal are appealing tv5′s red card… i’m not sure thats the best thing to do. surely if there is a chance it will get rejected and he gets 3 games instead of 1 then i don’t think its worth an appeal.

TA good talk and I know you are very candid however I am not so sure we can cause of frailty at the back. Now that Sol man is there if fit he’ll make the obvious difference and we may win. But AW should enable his back four close shop against the Brum but the modfield and attack should do what they know how to do best.

i believe the wording is that if the appeal is “frivolous” then they are allowed to increase the length of the ban. I also read that the clubs rarely appeal unless they are very confident they will succeed so perhaps its not such a bad idea. all depends on the outcome.
