Squeeky Brum time…

birminghamlarge1

By CARL ELDRIDGE IT could be argued it’s a case of squeeky Brum time today as the Arsenal face a must-win trip to St Andrews ! But why should we be so trepidacious going into the game against Alex McLeish’s side?

Two words. Tommy Vermalean. I think this game would have been tough enough with TV5 in our ranks but to come away with three points without his outstanding presence is going to be a task and half. So what does AW do in the absence of our Belgique enforcer?

The options would appear to be either drop Alex Song back into partner Sol Campbell or draft in Mikael Silvestre. The latter’s legs seem to be on the way out in my opinion but can he come in and do a job for the cause? Probably. Of course, that would mean a lack of youthful endeavour in central defence and you have to be concerned as to just how well these two venerable veterans will cope over 90 minutes against what is a decent City side.

The way to cope, of course, is to play our natural game and defend from the front. If we’ve got possession then there is little they can do to harm us. The onus is very much on our attacking players today and the message is clear: dominate from the off and take any perceived pressure off the backline. Today is all about taking our chances. I would love AW to start Theo Walcott today and get at ‘em early. Let’s remember the gaffer will have any eye on a certain game against some mob from Catalonia on Wednesday but today’s game is just as important to our season given our position in the race for the Premier League title.

What odds Nik Bendtner has a stormer and scores against the club that he served during a loan period a few seasons back? And what of Eduardo’s return to the Birmingham battlefield and the memories of the assault – because it certainly wasn’t a tackle – he endured that fateful day? Well, he will more than likely be on the bench and could it be written that with the game in deadlock and with the clock ticking down he comes off the bench and scores the winner.

My mate Mark, in the car with me as we travel to the Midlands as I write this, says this of that particular scenario: ‘I’ll be pissing on my belly if that happens.’ Spot on, Mark. Come on you Gunners!

I dont know whether to be pissed off of our goalkeeper or the fact that we just lost 2 valuable points…now whether we win all the games it will go down to goal difference..seein Chelsea put 7 past Villa…i dont think we can score a lot of goals by the end of the season…call me negative but it appears that they had their minds on Barcelona and not the league today

Today we’ve seen the good and bad of Wenger’s stubborn faith in his players.
    Diaby was simply world class.
I’m looking forward to Wenger’s defence of Almunia. I love the man, but he owes it to the fans to admit Almunia’s not good enough

wenger, understandably, attempted to kill the media hype over the barca match calling for focus on this vital trip to st andrew’s. i cant say i blame him for trying to be rested for wednesday’s clash but leaving arshavin/nasri on the bench for denilson/rosicky made no sense. there was a clear shift in momentum when the substitution was made, which makes me wonder why he didn’t just start the better tandem to go into halftime with a lead or make the change with more time remaining.

i’m more than certain that out embarrassed keeper will be in prayer during the red devil’s trip to reebok stadium but even if rooney produces yet another rooney-like performance all is not lost for the gunners. united will return home to face chelsea next week after their midweek clash with bayern, which will fortunately be played in germany. any result in that fixture will benefit arsenal but i personally would like to see a tie as both sides need to drop points.

should man united win, chelsea’s title aspirations will be damaged more-so than ours today with impending trips to the lane and anfield against teams battling for champions league qualification. fergie’s men have to visit ewood park and their cross-town rivals before hosting the hotspur so let us hope that they do not take all 9 of those points.

it looks grim, and with 6 games left, it may be the case but i am still confident in our chances. as long as we win the rest i think the title can be ours.

Oh no Almunia stupidity is back!!

Why Arsene didnt take off Cesc at half time?? He didnt play good since he receive that kick.

Big mistake to take out Rosicky who was playing really good. It should be Cesc and Walcott (with another terrible game) for Nasri and Arshavin.

But Diaby and Song were real class. Definiteley the most improved players of the season.

Oh and Arsene like to sign players who had a good game against us, I was hoping the entire game for Hart having a great game and our players only score to him in a penalty or something like that. And he had a good game, hope Arsene sign him in the summer.
