Arsene to rebuild his Arsenal empire

wengernew
by CARL ELDRIDGE Let the comings and goings commence. Well at least the speculation anyway. Yes, with just two games remaining of the season the rumour mill has been cranked up and we find ourselves immersed in transfer tittle-tattle surrounding our players.

As we know, AW says he is finally ready to throw a few quid around this summer and we have to then assume that if players are coming in that some will be on there bike. The empire is in need of rebuilding.

First one through the revolving door, inwards bound, will be Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh on a free transfer and either Eduardo or more probably Carlos Vela will go the other way, though the latter will have to find his passport if he is to head for mainland Europe.

Obviously, you don’t need to be football’s equivalent to Stephen Hawking to realise we might need a new keeper and with Joe Hart unlikely to want to go back to Manchester City to be understudy to Shay Given it would appear plausible that some of AW’s war chest (whatever that is) can be spent on the current Birmingham City No.1. The only issue here is that City might not want to sell to one of their rivals for top four spot.

Fran Merida is out of contract at the end of the current season, and it is being reported that the Spanish Under-21 international has agreed a five-year contract with Atletico Madrid, and he will announce his departure at the end of the season.
Then we have the issues in central defence. Sol Campbell will more than likely get a  year deal, while the jury is out on whether Bill Gallas will be offered two, something which might be the case back in France. With all the will in the world, Mikael Silvestre will be on his way, probably to Notts County to pick up where Sol left off. There is some speculation that AW appears to have settled on Serbian international Neven Subotic as the solution to this problem. Fulham’s Brede Hangerland is still on AW’s radar too, apparently.

The Borussia Dortmund defender, 21, would cost in the region of £10million and would presumably be groomed to be Thomas Vermaelen’s long-term partner, only in football terms of course.

And let’s not forget that ‘new’ players coming back to the Arsenal fold are Jack Wilshere, Johann Djourou and I reckon their is a fair chance Jay-Emmanuel Thomas will feature this season, too, after successful stints and both Blackpool and Doncaster Rovers. Sanchez Watt has also done well at Leeds and may feature in AW’s plans.

There are other issues too. If we could get £10million for Theo Walcott, would we take it? Does Andrey Arshavin really want to move to Barcelona? Will the Catalans up their interest in Gael Clichy and will AW sanction this move given that we should have the promising Keiran Gibbs on his way back from injury? Is Tomas Rosicky a spent force who will be shipped out?

Lots of questions which will be answered over the coming months. Who would you like to see ‘coming’ and, indeed, ‘going’?

“Sanchez Watt has also done well at Leeds”

He made his debut at the weekend and got substituted..

    Anyway, just nitpicking, sorry.

Players I’d like to see go. Rosicky. I love him to bits, honestly, but if we could get some money for someone who is clearly struggling to get back to previous form after years of injury, I’d take it. It’s a similar story with Eduardo.

Like most, I think we can find better than Denilson but I don’t think he’ll be off and I also think he has a little potential to improve. Ideally Ramsey comes back strong and makes CM his own. That does sound a little farfetched though.

As for coming. I hate to speculate. We all know the vast majority of summer silly season is just that. Thinking about it all leaves me open to disappointment in the extreme so I’ll leave that to you.

    I’ll take any goalkeeper though.

Sol Campbell has just shown and alas belatedly Arsene has realised as to what a difference experience, height and physical power can make to the team.

Time to bring back the 49′rs invincible blueprint & clear out lightweight midget players ie Rosicky, Arshavin, Clichy, Theo, Gallas,Sagna,Vela, Edu,Marida, Denilson etc etc!

Above every other position, I want to see a top GK be it from England or other parts of Europe with either Al or Fabiaski out. Second I think we should go for a versatile player who can play both as a CB and a DM. Martin Demichelis of Bayern readily comes to mind but he wont leave Germany or we cant afford him.Such a player will be able to cover for both areas when there’s a crisis in defence and have him play in place of Song as DM or alongside him when away to a tough and physical team like Chelsea, Stoke or Blackburn.

Lots of speculations and the boards says ones again Arsene
will get lot of money to spend.
Coming 31st of august Wenger will give a statement like always:
We could not find anyone that could improve our team so we did not buy. We also got Almunia, Djorou and Ramsey back and its just like 3 new signings.
Though he might buy a 9 years old Boy from Tibet “totally unknown” for 500 $.
Next spring failing to get the 4th spot and out of the champion league Wenger will say: “the team will be great when they get a little more matured”
In two years Rafa Benites will be manager of Arsenal and we will find us among the bottom 3 and Liverpool will win the title.
    Wenger knows.

I hope we get Subotic, in fact, Subotic, Hart, Lassana Diarra and Chamakh would be perfect.

Going? Eduardo, Merida, Silvestre .. not sure about Rosicky .. If half the players we have just improved their long shots and had a shot even 1% of the time they would be great!

Mr Wenger should get rid of Andre Ashavin. He speaks to much and not a loyal arsenal player. No player is Indispensable. I think for a bid of 20m, let him go. Reyes is even better than him anyway. Bring in David Silva instead.

As for Clichy i think for the right offer. Let him go. say between 14-16m. Get Charles N’gzobia instead(He is very Versatile and plays different position on the field.) We also got K Gibbs as backup..a great talent.

Disgraceful comment from Andre.. Staying he doesn’t want to play for a team that isn’t challenging for the EPL. That’s absolutely wrong. He doesn’t deserve to be in a arsenal shirt for that comment. When i heard it on Sky Sport. I shook my head.
A.Wenger Please sell that fake guy. Well said Frank Lucas. David Silva said he would prefer to play for arsenal in the EPL.

I wonder if there is any truth in the report on Goal.com yesterday that Arsenal are paying Fabregas £110.000 per week and that the club gave him £3 million to back-date his pay rise by two years.

If the above story is true then Wenger’s much vaunted pay policy is so much bullshit.

Reports in the Telegraph this morning say that the Highbury Square development is set to make an £18 to £20 million profit which could be added to the £30 million already in the bank from the sale of Toure and Adebayor.

    Ins and outs

Out… Almunia, Fabianski, Sylvestre, Gallas, Arshavin, Rosicky and Eduardo.

Ins…. Not the faintest idea!!! Just so long as there is a goalkeeper, centre-back, defensive midfielder and two strikers.

Almunia is SHIT! not worthy of a first choice place in a top 4 club…when there is clearly better keepers playing in the coca cola! denilson is shit, what is he good 4 apart from chasing after players and missing the ball! bendtner is shit, he has no skill or control, he only scores when he gets an inch perfect ball to his feet and is one one with the keeper! clichy is overrated..he is no left back…should eb left back on the team bus. sagna is average, song is average, rosicky and eduardo are past their prime by now, injury has had its toal on them! its about time walcot was played in a permanent forward position, he is no winger, he can run but thats it, he can deliver good balls, but he can certainly run onto them! if arsene is true to his word he has a lot of summer spending to do. we dont care about the squad being more mature as the seasons go on, we want tropheys!

OUT: ALMUNIA, FABIANSKI, SILVESTRE, GALLAS, CLICHY, ROSICKY, BENDTNER

IN: GOALKEEPR OF ANY DESCRIPTION, MUST NOT BE A BROTHER, COUSIN OR FRIEND OF ALMUNIA AND MUSTNT BE AS INEXPERIENCED AND SHIT AS FABIANSKI. WE NEED CENTRAL DEFENDERS AS OURS ARE AGED! (VERMAELAN AS AN EXCEPTION) AND BYE BYE NIKOLAS BENDTNER, GO PLAY FOR A CLUB WORTHY OF YOUR METEOKER TALENTS-

Arshavin is reported, by Reuters News Agency, as saying that “playing for Barcelona for just one season would be the pinnacle of his career”

I wonder if the serial under-achiever, who has yet to appear fully fit, could manage to keep his mouth shut long enough to think about the damage he is doing to the club, that pays his grossly undeserved wages, by his continuing stream of whinges to the worlds press.

If Barca want him let them have him, he’s a waste of a squad number.

Fans of this club are strange “Pearce1991″ wants to get rid of Clichy,Gallas,Rosicky and Bendtner and you John in Norfolk want to get rid of Gallas, Arshavin, Rosicky. LOL then half way through next season you will bitch and moan about Arsenal not having enough experience in the squad and/or it being to small. clichy has shown himself to be a leader on the pitch towards the end of this season and we really lack those. He got the team going after rambo’s injury and put in more effort than anyone in both games against barca.

I don’t think out defensive problems can be laid at the feet of a left back.

although i would be happy if gibbs was first choice i don’t think N’zogbia would be the man who is going to make the difference between 3rd and 1st. sorry.

Will the world cup be again the show piece for AW’s purchases this summer? That diamond that everyone has overlooked who comes to the fore? I think the model only partially works and in fact AW will use world cup to prove his man is correct for the job.

arshavin was a spot replacement for a season or 2 and that was it. (based upon age and wenger policies, isn’t he 29 now?) AA worked for a time but now the time is up. ta ta.

goalkeeper and top quality no 2 a must or no raising the champions league cup.

appropriate back line and back up or no CL victory. Song into the backline and an additional player with tackling bite in the midfield, but with also some creativity— i’d take patrick viera 6 years ago as the model for the role.

midfielder, at least one, who can and will shoot the ball from 20 yards out on frame.

The invincibles were special domestically but disappointing in europe. I think AW is trying to find not just a team, but a squad which can do both.

Andreys comments about barca were bad but worse was his comments about mourinho. He basically called him the best manager in the world so i can only assume he is trying to talk his way to either barca or inter. He probably doesn’t realise that mourinho won’t be there next season.

I don’t think he is as bad as everyone is making out. He has under achieved and has looked quite lazy but he has still scored quite a few important goals and got quite alot of assists.

Still he should be sold and Eden Hazard would be my first choice as a replacement. The kid is amazing. Nearly as fast as theo but with skills and an excellent passer who understands the need for team play.

Unfortunately it is not possible to just keep adding to the squad. From next season there will, I believe, be a limit of 25. There is also the small matter of financing both the purchase of players and paying their wages.

I see no purpose in retaining players on the grounds of “experience” when their performance is as consistently poor as has been that of Arshavin, Rosicky, Eduardo, Almunia and Sylvestre. In the case of Fabianski there is no “experience” with which to justify his retention.

Incidentally, I do not wish to “get rid of” Gallas, I do however expect him to leave of his own accord as his contract is not likely to be renewed for the two years that he wants.

I shall not say who should go (we still have 2 games in BPL to complete our season). Though there are some obvious choices and bear in mind of the squad quota of 25 players next season (with 8 home grown players at least).

We could do well with a balance of youth and experience and a plus would be players who can play effectively in more than one position (e.g RB+CB, LB+DMC, CB+DMC, AMC+Winger, Winger+ST etc)

Additionals I would personnally like to see are:

    GK (any of these two)
1)(Sebastien Frey 30yrs, Fiorentina, French GK with proven experience in Serie A)

2)(Maarten Stekelenburg 27yrs, Ajax, Dutch international, reunite with Vermaelen)

    CB+MID
(Heiko Westermann 26yrs , Schalke, German international, captain of Schalke 04 – which is neck-in-neck at top with Bayern in Bundesliga this season, versatile – can play in defence and midfield, all round abilities – including scoring)

    CB+RB
(Toby Alderweireld 21yrs, Ajax, Belgian international, Ajax talent of the year 2009-2010, all-round defender)

    AMC/Winger
(Eden Hazard 19yrs, Lille, Belgian international …. a younger and better version of Arshavin)

    ST/FW
(Marouane Chamakh 26yrs, Bordeuax, Morrocan international ….. provides an alternative in attack, esp with headers, and build-up play)

They are too similar and they get caught out too often leaving our fullbacks to try to cover (or when we don’t have Song, the always forward Diaby or Denilson).
I really think he need a CB with size, strength and experience to deal be the “stay at home” guy to partner Verm.
Gallas will never accept a secondary role, so he’d need to go.

Sometimes we shouldn’t blame the players when the tactics and team selection appropriate to the opposition are to blame!! Of course Silvestre… Almunia etc etc are exceptions

Personally I think Rosicky has, albeit slowly started to show some form. Dudu has struggled and denilson still looks more suited to the UCL than the premiership.

Walcott is still lacking maturity and I think we need a direct RM to add competition with eboue a bit hit and miss. We lack some real power and pace up front and struggle at present to get behind defences.

ok so far, we have already got chamkh, then we either give dudu and some cash to lyon for hugo lloris or get joe hart to fill the goalkeeper void. for a center defender, it should either be hangeleland, richard dunne,or anyone young will do. merida is gone and we dont know when ramsey will return so we need a skillful, talented midfielder such as eden hazard or maybe even van der vaart.rosicky has been great to us, but we dont need him anymore with having samir nasri. and hopefully these kids coming of loans can step it up and help get us some silverware

Despite the financial ball and chain Wenger came close on silverware and during this 5-6 year period with untimely injuries, bad luck and poor refereeing decisions the primary cause of our failure to take silverware.

Wenger always proclaimed that if the right player was available at the right price, he would buy. Wenger is not stupid though and will not rush out and buy players to please the fans especially if the billionaire owners of other clubs in the market have pushed prices to ridiculous levels. Besides any player he may want has to be out of contract or their club has to actually want to sell them before he can get him, its as simple as that.

Yes we fans pay some of the highest prices for our tickets, but we also have one of the best stadiums in Europe. I think we need to get perspective here.

Some gooners say “what has Wenger done is the past 5 years?” Well for starters:

    • He has helped take our club from a 36,000 capacity 100yr old+ stadium to a state of the art, 60,000+ capacity stadium that will set our club up financially for many years to come, competing with the big boys in Europe.

    • Helped reduce our debt from over 450 million pounds to less than 150 million in a few short years (as soon as the last sales of the old Highbury are realised)

    • During this financially lean time has stayed competitive in all competitions.

    • Ensured we qualified for CL every season despite our financial difficulties.

    • Played some of the most outstanding football in the country delighting supporters and non-supporters alike.

Can ManU, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spuds, ManC, Villa claim all this? NO!! We need to get some perspective gooners!

The only way now is up.!!

Ian Wright is no longer an Arsenal legend. he is a media limpit who is toeing the AW bashing line. He has nothing positive to say about the club anymore. I like people who are objective, Lee Dixon, Tony Adams, Perry Groves, Merson etc. They are honest pundits who give a fair assessment.

Ian Wright is a media whore trying to get headlines, readers and listeners (when he was on talk shite).

So he can take his son and shove him up his arse. You seem to forget that he pimped his son to Chelsea for more money when he left City the first time. He could easily have persuaded him to go to Arsenal, but am sure getting 10% of his sons wages gave him a good reason to go to the russians.

Without Wenger I would not have a season
    Ticket.

Without Wenger I would not have seen Vieira, Bergkamp, Pires, Henry, Fabregas, Eboue(:-)) The list goes on.

Without Wenger I would not be visiting a State of the Art stadium every week.

Without Wenger I would not have seen Champs League football for the last 12 years.

Without Wenger, I would not have seen the club win 2 ‘Doubles’ in 4 years.

Without Wenger I would not be able to say we are one of the ‘Top 2/3′ most attractive Footballing sides in Europe.

Without Wenger I would not have got to see pretty much every Arsenal game I couldnt make in person, on TV, due to everyone wanting to watch us.

I think that is a pretty good reason to see what he has done for our club. If I have to wait another year, 2 years for a trophy, so be it.

On the flip side of course, you have Cygan, Stepanovs, Shaaban, Adebay-Whore etc.

But the good far outweighs the bad.

TO REMI- I HAV BITCHED FOR 5 YEARS NOW OVER ARSENALS BARREN SEASONS. YES U SHOULD IMPROVE ON A SQUAD, HOWEVER OUR SQUADE IS METEOKER COMPARED TO OTHER TEAMS. THEY ARE INEXPERIENCED AND AVERAGE. IF YOU ARE PAYING 60,000 A WEEK TO THESE PLAYERS I EXPECT A LITTLE MORE FIGHT.

Well personally I think that Arsenal needs a new breath. We might be stronger than some teams in the league but still we are weaker. We lack some power in the midfield like Viera and Petit, Overmas and Parlour or Lyunberg and Pires were.

I think we need a good keeper to start..my preference will on Pepe Reina, Lloris, Joe Hart.

    Offload Fabianski and Almunia.

Offload Gallas, Sylvestre and Sol. Thanks to Sol though he did an excellent job since coming in. If his fitness improves, can take the gamble but still yet he needs to be able to play two games in 3 days..

Get one experience CB, and one promising CB as cover. Marseille CB looks solid

Offload Denilson. Bring in Diarra or van Bommel or Cambiasso or Yaya Toure.

Offload Rosicky and may be Walcott ( am sorry but I cant see any further progress in his abilities)

Bring in Ollic instead of Chamakh, Wesley Sneider for Rosicky. David Villa and Silva would be great addition to the squad in replacement of the two above.

I understand that we need at least 50millions to get these players but at least we can then expect to win the premier league and champions league. else we have to keep waiting.

Wenger does a great job but we lack many great and experienced players to go one step further.

And I hope that we do not get so many injuries which completely disrupts the team sheet and plans.

next year can be good for us, get new keeper someone like frey and play chesney in carling/fa cup.

play 4-4-2 or else we will have attackers playing out of position, dont know why people want vela gone, aint had best year but hes not played that much. i like eduardo and rosicky but if they cant get back 2 best will have 2 leave, i still like arshavin but he needs to keep quite sometimes, if he left it would be talent lost, unless of course we get hazard 2 replace him.

keep campbell and clichy and sell silvestre n maybe gallas as long as we buy at least 1 CB as we will have djouro back next season n mite give nordviet a go, be good to see wilshere, eastmond, gibbs, JET and hopefully barazite pushing for places next year as well much rather see them given chance more than denilson and although i like diaby he aint consistent

AW shouldn’t go about spending frivolously he should, rahter improve on wht he alredy has i.e a renovetion of the team to improve on what he already has and balance the team. What Arsenal really needs is a top striker and a top keeper. AW isn’t totally wrong in his desicion not to over spend on players.people should stop hating on Wallcott and Arshavin they’re both great players and just need a bit of grooming.

I don’t think we need that many players to add to the squad to take ourselves to the next level. we need a consistent backline which would mean a keeper and either a healthy gallas (one more year only) or add another center back- we have song, djourou coming back is that cover enough? I note the use of eastwood, eastland, eastgate, east-whatever in front of backline when song injured couple weeks back- how far is he off to step into the role? does he have the goods to do it he has been reserves captain. But as said I would love a pat viera not for his defense but what he did on the turn of possession and when he attacked. we need the rapier type which alex song does not show me right now.
we attacked so well early on in the season with rvp in the squad. and as the season winds down we are back to this plodding predicable attack. Nasri, Rosicky whomever look like flies trying to disturb a horse, buzzing around to no real effect.
as example, one of our best opportunities the other day was song breaking through but instead of shooting he tried to pass inside mancity’s penalty box when given a glimpse. If he is going to play that midfield role he must be able to successfully attack, and try to take that fleeting opportunity. Tommy V would have taken the shot given that chance!!!

shava was answering to russian newspaper and he was asked about new manager for russian national team, namely he was asked to name a few managers who could suit best to the russian team. it has nothing to do with the best manager in a world or whatsoever. i was reading original and there was nothing criminal in that at all. then about barca issue. he was asked if he still wants to play for barca someday and he replied laughing that hes too old but a year in barca would be good for any player in a world.

There is a lot of over reaction give Eduardo and rosicky another season to prove themselves Eduardo looked sharp at the start of the season and faded with confidence towards the end.. Vela has not had enough game time too be judged the only definite outs should be Silvestre Almunia and Fabianski!!

I’d like to see some fresh faces in the squad. A mix of youth and experience. Here’s what I think would be the ideal starting line up for next season (If we still stick to the same formation).

GK: Joe Hart (Doesn’t want to go back to Man City to be a backup)
    DR: Bacary Sagna
    DL: Gael Clichy
DC: Cristian Zapata (Strong, good in the air, speedy, all round great defender)
    DC: Thomas Vermaelen
    DMC: Alexander Song
MC: Moussa Sissoko (Looks like a young Essien to me)
    MC: Cesc Fabregas
    RWF: Samir Nasri
LWF: David Silva (Valencia have financial problems and imagine him linking up with Cesc)
    FC: Robin van Persie

This team might sound a little too far-fetched but if we got them together, man, what a team.

I’d sell under-performers like Denilson, Diaby, Rosicky, Eduardo and Silvestre.

I’d give Vela and Walcott one more season to truly prove their worth.

Arshavin and Gallas should go if they’re not happy at the Emirates.

    Subs:
    Mannone
    Eboue
    Campbell/Djourou
    Eastmond
    Ramsey
    Wilshere
    Chamakh

Whatever Wenger’s decision is come the start of next season, I’ll still be cheering on the Gunners (Win, lose or draw). In Arsene I trust.
