Disgruntled Gooners set to protest at Emirates Cup

By  Published: 14th May 2010
scarves
by CARL ELDRIDGE Moves are afoot to stage a protest against Arsene Wenger during the Emirates Cup tournament before the season kicks off — IF our beloved leader fails to sign a proven goalkeeper.

I have been told by one of a group of hardline, pissed off supporters that they will kick up a fuss in one way or another to bemoan the fact that we will be going into the campaign without a decent No.1. Remember, we have Celtic, Lyon and AC Milan coming to the home of football on July 31, and August 2.

Of course, this comes in the light of the risible performances throughout the season from Manuel Almunia and Lucasz Fabianksi and the tabloids have been feverishly putting forward possible targets to fill the void, top of the list has been Joe Hart from Manchester City as well as Gigi Buffon with even Paul Robinson (God forbid) being mentioned.
There were noises of unrest towards the end of last season when it became clear we weren’t going to win the Champions League or the title and many disgruntled supporters, rightly or wrongly, called for AW’s head.

Ok, I am not condoning this protest so please don’t shoot the messenger. I trust AW and stand by his decisions. By the same token it will happen should AW fail to act, I am told, and we must defend their right to show their disquiet. Of course, it may not even go ahead if AW lands a decent stopper.

But the protest group’s spokesman (if you can call him that – which I have as I don’t want to tell you who he is) tells me they firmly believe that AW won’t land a new keeper and will persist with what we have which includes, let us not forget, Vito Mannone and Wojciech Szczesny unless he goes out on loan again for a season.

The reason that he has become far too stubborn to listen to the fans or indeed the media and that he is so one-eyed over this issue that he will persist with what we have in the hope of being proved right with some silverware next season. Or at least our usual Champions League place which he considers as good as a trophy.

There was some talk of a black scarf protest for the final home game of last season against Fulham but the numbers didn’t prove to be significant enough for their voices to be heard. All I saw was a banner up the North Bank which said ‘signings or sign out’ and was removed by the Arsenal gestapo at half-time, which was a disgrace.

To add to previous bloggers’ views on the catering at Arsenal. Best bet is to have a feast at the Arsenal Fish Bar in Blackstock Road and smuggle a couple of miniatures in for half-time. Job’s a good ‘un. Up the Gunners.{jcomments on}

So an anonymous person claims they are going to protest IF.

Quite pathetic really.

• james

Neil and bobbyb you two cunts need a slap more like. We need to fuck off these twats who support Arsene FC and reclaim our once proud club which is being taken away.

• TonyM

arsenal gestapo,,hahaha
i don’t have a problem with fans protesting. i won’t support it but you’re entitled to your opinions. i think 99% of us want a new keeper

• Mean Lean

It is quite crazy isn’t it?

Imagine if we were big spending Liverpool, or Tottenham spending all that cash and only getting a chance at the CL for the first time.

I agree with bobbyb12345

• arsenal4ever

he will buy a world class GK or cesc is gone!!! I am sick of Wengers excusses. If he dont buy world class he can fuck off and go. Dont wont him longer here anymore!!! Fans have the right to protest.

• rayman

Most fans pay a huge price for their support of the club relative to the rest of their spending power. I don’t see any reason why their genuine concern should not be demonstated. Whats the problem? I assume all they are going to to do is demand signings like almost every squad member has over the last few months including RVP and Arsh. They can use journalists, the fans can’t they use what they have available to them and a protest at the Emirates Cup seems perfectly reasonable to me. Its not like suggesting they protest at a league game.

Also presumably if signings have been made by the time the Emirates Cup comes round the protest won’t go ahead. If they haven’t we have every right to be very fucking worried about the club, and the ambitions of the manager and board.

• Theo

What a great confidence booster that will be for whichever goalie we play! Just the sort of fans we need, eh! I can’t think of any other ‘fans’ in Britain who slaughter their own players like ours do……don’t remember it happening in the old stadium…..

• ig

hi guys,
i fully support this.although we stand by le boss, he has been very stubborn inspite of repeated requests for decent signings(im not asking stars, but definitely someone better than silvester was available last season).if he continues this way there are other managers-rjikaard, van basten or even our own bould who might be willing to takeover from AW.we need to make a measurable progress and everytime AW comes out and says we have made it, i feel like tearing my hair out……we need some quality players in and deadwood out….

• j

Maybe the headline should be changed to ‘Spoilt gooners set to spit out their dummies because football in the real world isn’t like championship manager’!

I can say the spokesman’s name.., Stan Small Dick. Well Stan, do us all a favour. Grow up and step into the real world.., and if that’s too much bother then piss off and support the chavs!

Apologies to the author for some of the language, but i’m getting fed up with these idiots.

• Ludo

What a bunch of ungrateful cretins. Wah wah wah the lot of them. Under Wenger we’ve had the best period since the 30s and he’s transformed the club in a way none of us could imagine. He’s been cash-strapped yet we still get into the CL year after year. Whining little bitches the lot of them. We’ve all got our concerns, but protesting against a manager who’s given his heart and soul to our club for over 10 years is disgusting.

• joe

By publicizing it you are endorsing it.

• MJL

Keeper deal done .

2 cb,s on the way.

Suggest plastic gooners keep toys well inside the pram.

• brdgunner

Ungreatful. There is no denying we need investment in the side. However, Arsene is a winner. More so than any of us. The guy has transformed us forever.

He can not be expected to compete with teams like the spuds, Chelsea, Liverpool and now Man City in transfers.

What do the managers at those clubs care for the fans? Nothing. If they did they would not risk the clubs future spending funds on thier own hunt for glory.

Arsene has sacrificed his own chances of major throphies. He could of not invested in the training facilites he asked for or the youth academy he asked for and signed a couple of start players. Won a couple of trpohies, but then what?

Thank you Arsene Wenger for all your work

COME ON THE GUNNERS

• DC

What a bunch of wankers.

• eldo

Succinct, Ralph…succinct.

• eldo

So when publicity is given to, say, 911, those who report it are endorsing it are they?

• james

Ludo you fuckwit under Wenger we are now on our worst run since before the early 80s. Over 30 years.

Wenger needs to got, finally some fans have the balls to stand up for themselves unlike the right of you scared cretins.

• Surrey Gunner

Baa, Baa, Baa, Baa, Baa, Baa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You chesse eating surrender monkey.
Sorry I am really pissed at this and usually I try to be calm, you you being like sheep.
So with the worlds press and TV there you going to protest, all those Manu loving media types will love it. Great plan, pure geniuse.

• akki

way to go guys…keep it up…PROTEST IS ON

• DC

In this case, yes. It’s strange that no other blog is mentioning this. Looking for a few extra clicks are we? Who are these hardline supporters? Friends and colleagues?

You cannot measure a club’s success by trophies alone. We are in a far better position than we have ever been and expect Wenger’s plan to succeed over the next couple of years. Then they will all be praising him – if he hasn’t got fucked off with it all and gone somewhere where he will be appreciated. You don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone.

• Abhinaba

gr8..protest against this goof-head AW………slap him if needed…….but buy a decent shot stopper……..& u AW brainwashed guys out dere……dnt u crave fr trophies…dnt u feel jealous seeing chelsea………

• Jasm

I am sorry to say this but we have a lot of Arsenal fans who are loyal Wenger rather than Arsenal FC.

I am loyal to Arsenal FC (the Football Club not the business or the PLC) and unfortunately Wenger has got away with way too long of messing us the fans about.

The people that keep telling Wenger how great he is and how he has a job for life are the ones that are damaging the club because it allows Wenger to go into every season with a youth team and carry out his experiments. Whereas the ones that make noise and are not happy with the way things have been going are the geniune Arsenal fans. They are the ones that give Wenger a kick up his backside so that we could put an end to this failed project of his.

6 years without a trophy is not acceptable. Even Alex Ferguson would not survive at Manutd if he didnt win anything for the next six years. Infact I would go as far as saying if Fergie had 2 seasons without a trophy he would not survive.

Wenger is the only manager in the world who is able to get away with 5 years of winning fuck all because we have idiotic fans that worship him and follow him blindly.

• Abhinaba

go to hell………

• Keefski
Ludo you fuckwit under Wenger we are now on our worst run since before the early 80s. Over 30 years.

remind me of all those trophies we won between ’79 and ’87.

This is a joke.

• KINGSLEY INDIA amadi

de best thing 4 arsenal now is
4 wenger to leave arsenal.
de man is wicket.

• brdgunner

Everyone does it everywhere.

I think its the media. They plant seeds of frustration and then call fans disloyal when they bite.

I hate the British tabloids.

• AC

Nice to see that some fans seem to be okay with us not winning any thing, nice to see that getting beaten by wigan doesnt at least spark some thoughts of change in some arsneal fans… Im not scared to admit it arsenal have been a constant let down in the past few year and why are we turning into liverpool fans and living off our past glories. When you saw chelsea lift the title did it hurt or did you just say to yourself o well we went unbeaten 5 years ago or o well before arsene came we werent successful… personally it hurt me… change is needed whether it be new players or a new manager… i wonder if 5 yrs from now we still havent won anything will people still be content with 4th place because the way some fans are going on I still think they will be still saying trust wenger…. And finally if there is a protest I’d back it when someone is doing something wrong the brave will stand up and say something while the cowards will be happy to sit back and say nothing

• brokenkirby

To all those fans thinking of protesting GET A GRIP,
United fans protesting i can understand..
The Liverpool fans…not so sure..
Pompey fans… defo

But us Arsenal fans? why? because we didn’t win the league? or be named the best in Europe? We all know are goalkeepers aren’t the best in the league but any goalkeeper will tell you it is all about confidence, what sort off good is a protest going to do if we don’t buy a keeper? other than weaken our current crop, think of the pressure on a new goalkeeper knowing that the fans will crucify him if he makes one error. All goalkeepers make mistakes, Seaman, Schmeichel, Cech, Casillas….the list goes on, they have all dropped high profile clangers.

Dont get me wrong, i believe we would be far stronger with Joe Hart in the sticks, especially as i believe the fans will not be too hard on him seen as he is English. But thats just my humble opinion.

I love our club, and worship Arsene Wenger for how he has kept us in Europe throughout the move, make no mistake his hands have been tied, i know everyone in the club over the last few years has come out saying we have money to spend but im not so sure.

To all the fans screaming for a trophy, just look at Pompey. we are in a far better state obviously but before Redknap went on a ridiculous spree of signings and high wages they were a stable club. They won the FA cup because of this frivolity and have payed a Hefty price, which may see a fine club disappear.

You just have to read between the lines this season with regards to money, all we have heard is how we are now in a fantastic financial state…. i think we will see money spent.

I love our club and only hope all other fans while frustrated, will keep believing and supporting-rather than protesting.

• brdgunner

It’s not an experiment. That is tabloid talk. It’s the restructuring of our club.

We don’t have the funds to buy big stars and have big squads. So we built a bigger stadium to pay for exactly that. Its been 4 years since the stadium. Give it time. The problem we have is keeping players, not working hard enough etc. The new crop of lads coming through are Londoners. Gooners. With real quality. Plus as they grow the manager in charge of the club will have more freedom for a wage bill as the net profit will be higher and will also have transfer funds.

All this could be jeopardised by rushing and panic buying. Don’t let the press cloud your view of Arsenal Football Club. Trophies are not the be all and end all. Divide the number of trophies we have by the number of years we have been around, it will put it all into perspective.

• Marie Antoinette

James you are a complete fkn moron with no sense of perspective or gratitude. You and your ilk bring shame to the club which by the way belongs to others not you. Stupid fktard

• Franny

Could’ve sworn the banner read “sign-ins or sign-off”

• goonnneeeerrrrr

very well said mate

• Brett

The thing is with keepers is quite simply their form can yoyo.

Almunia and Fabianski have never looked reliable as number 1′s really. Although Almunia did have a good first season as the leading keeper he soon dropped his performances.

David James used to be remembered as Calamity James yet people love him these days as he proved himself.

I think Almunia has grown as far as he will though and Fab needs a stint on loan where he can play regularly.

Almunia statistically had a better season than Buffon… but people don’t care about that and, tbh, I rate Buffon FAR higher… but what if he ends up as another player that can’t cut it in the EPL? An expensive risk to bring to the English game at an age where, you would think, he is less willing to adapt.

• BergkampsLoveChild
What a great confidence booster that will be for whichever goalie we play! Just the sort of fans we need, eh! I can’t think of any other ‘fans’ in Britain who slaughter their own players like ours do……don’t remember it happening in the old stadium…..
Sorry, but you think having a little whinge before the game is gunna make almunia or fabianski shitter than they already are??

• SD-London

Now ,how do you differentiate from a fan who reacts to every abuse they get from opposing fans and a fan that just believe he/she is an Arsenal fan and there is a lot to be admired as an Arsenal fan.

I can proudly say outside and anywhere that I support a fantastic club with a fantastic manager. If some fans cant figure out why we are the envy of many club owners (Including Chelsea owner and Real Madrid owners) then I wouldn’t have any problems differentiating those fans from fans like me.

If Wenger should resign today, nothing less than 15 top clubs and countries will want to sign him with the most expensive contract ever.

Inter will sack Morinho without having a meeting, Liverpool will beg to get him and Real Madrid will add a Yacht and a Mansion to the most lucrative of contracts to get his signature.

You don’t know what you have till it’s gone; Protesting if Wenger doesn’t buy a keeper? COME ON!

• Crass

Arsenal have never been cash strapped as the financial reports have proven, cash strapped is something like Hull or Pompey, if we are cash strapped why are we paying high wages. There is something wrong with Wenger’s policy, if he can buy Silvestre and think that Senderos is worse then there is definitely something wrong. Arsenal was doing fine before Wenger and we’ll do fine if he dosen’t sign a new contract. Remember this is the manager who persist with Aliadiere for 7 seasons.

• phil

who ever is going to protest should go and support the scum what idiots. Look what he has done FOR US WITH SUCH A SMALL BUDGET

• Matlee

everytime i see those silly green&yellow scarfs out in force on the Man utd fans i’m glad wer’e not involved in such nonsense. everytime i hear our players being booed its an absolute embarassment. why can’t you twats grow up and support the club you say you care about so much in the right and dignified manner it deserves.

• Xrysto

It’s not about confidence. A confident shmuck… is still a shmuck! I am really happy that the fans have begun voicing their displaeasure at our horrible goalkeepers and defense. Arsene must be forced into these changes or we are doomed to another trophyless season…

• nin

fuck me there are plenty of dumbass sheep on here.

Wenger needs a serious kick up his arse, this club can be run responsobly and can also buy players.

How any one can defend wenger after he banked 40m on the sale of ade and toure and did nothing in the summer nor the winter window to buy a goalkeeper is pure neglegence.

Lets not forget we went into this season without a no.9 we played van persie in that role to which he played brilliantly but then he gets injured for the remainder of the season. he wasnt replaced instead wenger plays another no.10, this time the tiny arshavin.

Unbelievable.

This club might be finanically astute and well off and we may do well in the future but as a fan 5 years is too fucking long to wait for a trophy considering we only challenge for the league and europe, showing pure arrogance in thinking the other two are not trophies.

Dumbass sheep!

• Asmo

If some of these “supporters” put half the effort into cheering the team on as they do whinging uor players might not seem like nervy lost sheep at times.

Don’t expect any loyalty or spirit from the players if you show none yourself lads.

• DFS Sofia

is the Emirates Cup tomorrow, then? F***wits.

• Xrysto

This is bullshit and Jasm is right. This club is run to turn a profit pure and simple. WHERE IS THE PROFIT FROM TOURE/ADE SALES? They are not focused on winning anything and it does’nt take an and economics professor to realize that something is rotten in Arsenal. And it’s time the fans had their say at the emirates istaed of softballing gazidas at the press conferences.

• Mark

I think we all know who these unnamed protestors are, but if you dont its the likes of Le Groan- the epitome of all mouth and no action, its both laughable and pathetic. Dont get me wrong, though i dont agree with the protest i agree it should be their rights to do it.
So yeah go protest in front of our youth team at a meaningless pre-season match, they don’t have the balls to do anything major, so they repeat the same old BS about not buying merch’ and not renewing their season tickets(yet they do each year).
The truth is every club(Talking in 100′s here) bar two in this country would swap places with us.
One is bankrolled by a russian billionaire whose bubble may burst sooner rather than later.
The second is Manchester United, i dare you to ask a real united fan what they think about their club right now, i mean a real fan not a glory hunter nor a plastic who think their legit because they buy a yellow and green scarf.
All in all there will be about one or two hundred at the very most, probably less than 50 that actually turn up, which is strange as they all claim to be season ticket holders.

• Goonerboy

Biggest problem is Wengers inability to coach a defence properly. This problem has always been there but was masked while he had the old guard and then he got lucky signing Campbell (First time around)on a free and having a great screen in Vieira.

Our best defensive run since then was in the Champions league when Keown was working with the defence and Wenger did not keep him on!

You could bring Vidic,Ferdinand, Terry, or whoever into our defence, if the manager does not get the balance right and give the back 4 the cover it needs from the midfield we will always get shafted when wiley teams like Chelski &Utd sit, absorb and then fcuk us on teh break… so predictable, something has to change because i assure you Vermalen will lose confidence to playing with this bunch of rabble. For Fcuks sake Campbell was our best defender at the end of the season. OUT: DIABY, DENILSON, SILVESTRE, FABIANSKI, VELA.

IN: HANGERLAND, TOURE, CHAMAK. THAT ALONE WILL GIVE US LOADS MORE STEEL.

• DFS Sofia

nin(compoop), f**k off with your americanisms, 4rsewipe. We had a no.9 – Eduardo, RvP is 11, not a traditional no.9. Go an support Spuds, labia face.

• Luke

we have saved money on a striker and with the potential sale of dudu .. do we not have funds for a No1 and a central defender to partner the vermanator.. )) those three additions and maybe a back up for song.
i think this coming season could be a very good one for us . IF we can keep everyone fit.
I really hope cesc thing goes away and AW renews long contracts if we lose either of them it will be a very sad day.
lol @ the protestors .. you think that will help.? jog on

• harper-1

Yeah right, ML, that’s what fans are asking for, SPENDING BIG — it’s always either/or with fans like you, isn’t it? Spend nothing or SPEND BIG — nothing in between of course.

• Julian H

The most pathetic thing about this alleged “group”, is their anonymity.

If you feel that strongly – fine, go public, have a protest. But to leak it onto a blog anonymously, as a veiled threat to our most successful manager, is spineless petulence.

Shame on them – assuming they exist.

• harper-1

I THINK THIS PROTEST IDEA IS GREAT!

And to hell with those of you who claim we should all just be meek little mindless grateful robots slavering at AW’s feet and shut the hell up as if the club has every right to charge supporters for the most expensive tix in the country yet do nothing to improve the team.

If AW does not resolve our keeper situation in the summer, then I too will give up supporting him. Anyone who thinks that it’s perfectly acceptable to go on with the keepers we have is a mindless idiot who doesn’t give a damn about our team.

IF AW LEFT THE CLUB, WOULD YOU STOP SUPPORTING ARSENAL?

IS ARSENAL ONLY ABOUT SUPPORTING ARSENE WENGER?

WE NEED A FKG KEEPER — MINIMUM!!

If AW doesn’t resolve that problem then he should move on.

• Julian H

Wenger had no way of knowing that Gallas, Vermaelen and Song would all get injured at the same time – thus forcing him to (reluctantly) field Silvestre.

Senderos wasn’t happy to be the fourth or fifth choice CB, which is why we (reasonably) let him go on loan. Silvestre, as an older player with his career behind him, was happy to just sit in the squad – hence why he stayed on, instead.

And if you think our standard of football in the later Graham years and Rioch year was “fine”, you have a different memory to me. We were playing such shite that we often struggled to sell over 35,000 seats. The man’s won 3 league titles and almost exponentially increased our revenue.

• jack p
these arsenal fans need a slap
no you need a slap, people are tired of the way wenger taking the club as his little toy. we should be competing fo rfirst or 2nd place not fighting for 4th place, these bunch of kids will not deliver any trophy, we need a proper balance of youth and experience to achieve that. your stubburn manager is dilusional, he thinks the world stand stilll while his kids improve year after year, every year the goal post gets a little futher , he wont buy proper replacements and recruits, this team will never stop building and at the same time all the player are being sold as there game develop for revenue, we are a feeder club can’t you see that.

• Goonerboy

What i dont understand is that too many supporters call themselves die hard fans and yet cannot handle constructive criticism of our club, team, or manager.

They cannot understand how someone can support a team all their life, always been a season ticket holder and still criticise.

GET WITH IT!

A lack of constructive criticism will not move our club forward, it is not all about money, it is about questioning the people around you and having those around you challenge you, Wenger no longer has any of this.

I dont want him out, i want someone on the Board (Gazidis?) to be given the Gauthority to challenge him on his ideas, the way Dein used to.

Then we can move forward because doesnt matter what anyone on here says, this season was a huge missed opportunity cos utd and Chelski were average… if the right changes are not made it will be harder next year.

Sort it Arsene.

• joe71

IT HURTS WHEN YOU SEE ARSENAL FANS split down the middle and slagging off each other. Even if one had a pea brain one will still know something is wrong somewhere about Arsenal.

I too worry about our manager (that is the arsen of the last 5 years and not the one before that). Arsene said Fabianski is a brilliant goalie, but is only nervous, he said the changes will be minimal- 3 max since Gallas is going. He has only mentioned defence. Does that mean we will get 2 defenders (plus Chamakh)?

Either Arsene has got his team woefully wrong or he and Hillwood have been telling a lot of porkies about Arsenal’s financial situation – no one has really got to the bottom of this, because I personally feel the manager and the board tend to prefer raising and maintaining shareholder’s interests than developing the team.

• joe71

IF AW LEFT THE CLUB, WOULD YOU STOP SUPPORTING ARSENAL?

IS ARSENAL ONLY ABOUT SUPPORTING ARSENE WENGER?

I agree with this comment 100 %

My partner who knows little about football said she likes Arsenal only becuase of Arsene Wenger – she picks football teams based on certain personalities. I fear a lot of Arsenal fans do the same.

Harper I have mentioned what you said before, and was rudely shut down by a lot of pro – Wenger supporters, and wondered about us so called fans !

• slothintrainin

lets just think realistically here. if wenger did go who would replace him? thats a good enough reason not to protest. until there is suitable replacement ready to take ever it goes without sayin we should keep wenger. im sure he has realised the frailties in our team and if not then we may find our selves in 3rd or 4th again but that would still be better than jumpin from manager to manager like so amny other teams look at newcastles quest for silverware for proof. our gk are crap and we need another centreback but with 1 signin already on his way i think this is very premature somethin these fans know all about

• Luke

bearing in mind that he was working with the funds we had.. call it what you will..building on the kids.. we had no money until jan of this year.. agreed he could of bought in a striker then.. but why does everyone look short term .. think about the next 10 years.. we now have money to spend and a business model that allows us to stay in the top tier with out out side billionaires our future looks good. unlike other clubs business models who are ultimately flawed. Im postive about our future. Very positive… lets see what he does with the funds before we start judging.. the transfer window has barely opened .. fuck me .. lets give him a chance..
these glory supporters get u my nose.. teams go through cycles.. and admitetly the start of the decade was better than the end but chin up people season is but a few months away.. and i believe we will get what we need goal keeper central defender and striker.

• Goonerboy

There was one manager out there who was available and would of been perfect. He now manages the Turkish National Side. Guus Hiddink.

Beyond that (We’d never employe Mourinho) you are right.. not many good alternatives.

• johan

shame on these “fans”…
we should support the team whatever happens…

• zievad

God forbid the day that Mr. Wenger actually does quit. We’ve been over-achieving for quite some time now and when he goes, fortunately, the next manager will have the foundations and structure of a world class club to support him.

What Wenger has done for Arsenal is nothing short of miraculous you insipid and utterly loathsome bunch of inbreds.

Unfortunately, like a fine artist, he will only be fully appreciated by the masses when he has left.

• Liam

what do you think about this team ?

Buffon

eboue Metzelder vermanator clichy

Song
‘ Narsi’ ‘Fab’ ‘ arsharvin’

Chamkah ‘Van man’

Bench:
Walcott
Bendtner
Almunia
Cambell
Rosicky
dIaby
Sagna

unrealistic.?

• goonnneeeerrrrr

we won something after all :-)

We topped the fair play league with 30 grand to go with it.
Congrats Arsene FC!!

• PTangYangKipperBang

I’m thinkin about starting a protest myself; against idiotic so-called Arsenal fans who are doing their very best to fuck up our club during such a delicately poised and pivotal moment in our clubs history. “AW treats the club like his toy and is so stubborn to prove he is right by sitting on wads of cash” – DON’T BE SO FUCKIN RIDICULOUS! oF COURSE HE IS NOT. It is obvious to anyone with any semblance of intelligence that the route we have gone down with the young players has been out of necessity, not stupidity. The only other way would’ve been to saddle us with loads more debt which would’ve been very dangerous and potentialy catastrophic/fatal. Clubs that make rash decisions can sink like a stone. Look at Pompei

• bingobango

Well done for giving these pathetic morons some publicity on a usually credible site.

• Kanu

U are an Idiot for saying that. An Ingrate.
The man has being the best manager the club has ever had and you are saying rubbish. u CAN’T do anything. I bet you cant even kick a ball. and you are criticizing the Man. who will you bring in if he goes?

• Ash

I dont believe its right to protest but it has to be said AW has got to much pwer and is too stubborn to realise we need to sign quality to keep cesc and win trophies, the world can see we need a new keeper both keepers are poor arent going to improve so the protestors are not idoitic they care about the club winning things clearly you some of you have completly forgot maybe thats due to the length of time since are last trophy ?

• indian gooner

I think ppl slagging fans for questioning wenger and his policies are just blind to some simple facts:-

1)Have we improved as a team over the last 5 yrs, as AW promised?

2)Have we imporved in defence?

3)Have we improved in freekicks and deadball situations?

4)have we improved in off the ball running and getting the ball back when we dont have it?

Plz dont give me the BS about finishing 3rd this season.we are 11 pts short of the winner, and that too after chelsea and manu faltered….dont tell me we got too many injuries( didnt manu have a sewn up defence?,wasnt drogba off to anc, cole, joe, essien et al injured?).

we lost games when we should have put them to bed.what does AW have to say about that?i.e “maturity” of the team that has been together for the last 5 yrs(who still struggle to cross/find a player more than 10 ft away, or play in a different formation other than the one with fab in centre).

We really need some new blood in both coaching( a new no.2, defence coach and gk coach) and bodies on the pitch.deadwood needs to be taken out ruthlessly. Most of us are not asking for torres/villa( though ill be happy to have them), but decent backup( maybe 5-10mill range)-not silvestre types.and AW stop coming out and saying fabianski is worldclass etc, coz it is utter BS and u know that!!

sign-ins or sign off please…..

• Keith

All idiots calling for wengers head beware he will win the league next year then tell the club to ram there contract where the sun don’t shine if you

• Zakk

Well, it’s the only games they go to….

• Theo

Keepers, like Strikers, live on confidence. How’s a ‘demo’ going on around their heads gonna help them? I’ve got a list of keepers I’d prefer to start the season with and I’m sure there will be a change. If we don’t sign one and Almunia or Fabianski start the season in goal then I’ll be SUPPORTING them simply because they play for my team!

• JL

I would be very surprised if this actually happens. Even if this ‘group’ could gather up its single braincell, it would be pointless bothering. If any of you mugs are reading this…feel free to go and support another club. You are not welcome at The Arsenal.

joe, unfortunately that happens a lot. You’re not supposed to question AW ever. It really is a cult mentality.

• harper-1

yeah, just like he promised he’d win something this year. spare us all the delusional predictions. I can promise you we won’t win anything next year either.

• Smudger

Poor spelling, child-like grammar, probably not English, clearly no knowledge or appreciation of the club he claims to support. Doubt you’ve ever been to a game. Go and support Chelsea/Man City please.
“Won’t buy proper players” – Arshavin, Vermaelen, Nasri etc. “all the player [sic] are being sold” – Adebayor, Toure moved on and justifiably so.
“player are being sold as there game develop for revenue” – doesn’t even make sense.

Can’t believe I wasted my time pointing out what a simpleton you are.

Thanks

• Devinp

You fools don’t you think it would be more productive protesting about losing our Captain Cesc!!!

Wenger has said we are getting a new keeper its all over Arsenal.com.
Keeping Cesc is what you should be moaning about you idiots!!!

• BillikenGooner

What is the best way to make sure Arsene Wenger DOESN’T do something?

Tell him what to do.

• The Fan

You know when those “fans” say stuff like “get rid of wenger or i aint supporting arsenal”? I hope they are true to their word cos the club will be better off without those glory hunters who came to watch henry.

To win the league you need the best squad. For 5 years we have not had the best squad. Therefore we don’t deserve to win the league. Chelsea not winning the title for 3 years is a bigger failure than us not winning for 5. Us winning it before is not enough to say we can win it again.

So how does one go about doing that? Well spending is one method which is what chelsea dominate in and man u do not falter in. We can’t compete with that. Simple. We have money but no where near enough to get star players. We can just about afford high salaries to have good players.

• The Fan

However the club didn’t just give up being a top club when they knew they can’t compete financially. They took the initiative to raise young players and look now, all the other top clubs are doing it than before.

Go to the transfer league and see that from 04-09 we have spent less than 19 premier league clubs in transfers yet we are 3rd. We don’t deserve 3rd financially yet we are there. We are doing more than our finances let us and for those that are too naive to know MONEY DOES CREATE SUCCESS (o, and santa claus aint real).

For a manger that is apparently rubbish, with a bunch of useless deadwood and kids I say he’s done amazingly well.
Face the facts, chelsea bought and ruined the league in 2004-2005 and arsenal winning it in 03-04 does not justify us winning it this year.

You can pinpoint instances where we lost the title, but with a squad that are on the highest wage bill we were it’s amazing we were even in it in the first place.

We HAVE overachieved.

• The Fan

I want Arsenal to win trophies of course. But the title chelsea’s one year, united’s the next and arsenals the year after. It don’t work like that. If your squad ain’t the best for 5 years you aint gonna win for 5 years. And before someone raises your hopes next year, we aint gonna have the best squad again.

But I will still watch every arsenal game. I will still enjoy every success and I will hope they win the title. But if we won it won’t be because we are arsenal, a top club. It’s because combined with luck those players pushed themselves to earn beyond themselves.

I love the squad, the culture and style of arsenal. And while billionaires are ruining the game, arsenal are still hanging in their with a traditional system. If you want Arsenal to get taken over and spend loads or just go into further debt through spending, you don’t care for the club.

Wenger has given faith to a lot players and while you bring up players that failed must i bring up players like Fabregas, Song and Eboue as examples of those that benefitted from it.

Wenger is not blind, at least not nearly as much as you haters.

Arsene may not know best, but he knows better than you.

If continue to be a pawn to the media, go support another club because one that values it’s morals like Arsenal, is too good for you.

• The Fan

You can pinpoint instances where we lost the title, but with a squad that are not on the highest wage bill it’s amazing we were even in it in the first place.

• Troy

Get a grip folks. No one is going to protest about anything, this is just a sad little man trying to get website hits.

• GoonerMan

Its easy to tell Wenger to go…. but if he does, Watch Arsenal sink!! No RVP,Cesc,Clichy,Song,Nasri,Sagna…… Even if Wenger goes, The board wouldnt be giving the new manager any additional funds. We are all annoyed that we have fallen away down the stretch of the season. Lets say for example we spent the same way Chelski and Manure did, we probably would win the League and Europe. But we have barely spent anything and continuously finish in the top 4…. i definatly think Wenger will buy atleast 3-4 players, We should atleast give him to next season and see what happens.

• Osman

Go away idiot protesters. Go and join people who protest against injustice in the world; wars, human right abuses, colonialisation, and starving people by boycott. It’s silly and meaningless to protest in order to get players signed by Wenger especially when you know well you’re not f*cking Chelsea, Manc, Manu and or Crazy liverpool. Go to hell. Vive Wenger and sustainable business and football model of Arsenal.

do not delude yourself. wenger will not buy a goallkeeper. he thinks flapinaski will be world class. sign players or signout wenger.

• boo

i’m sorry, wenger WAS a winner. he has NOT been a winner for 5 years now.

his reputation as a winner has gone to pot.

sign players or signout wenger…

• boo

do not worship wenger like a god.

do not even mention wenger’s name in the same breath as chapman.

george boy was a better manager than wenger. he also delivered a european trophy something wenger will never do at arsenal…

sign players or signout wenger because we have had enough of your spin…

• boo

well said, you are obviously a real fan of arsenal who feels the pain watching a mickey mouse club like chelsea overtaking us as no1 club in london.

you are obviously correct to sense the real danger of that other scum of a club from n17 showing more ambition than us in the transfer market and overtaking us as well next season.

but of course, we are the ones accused of harming the club we love because we do not appease wenger and treat him like a god that can do no wrong.

yes, the time has come for the brave to stand up and say enough is enough wenger and march on the e word of a stadium and call for a revoultion….

• boo

you will also suffer the same fate come the revolution marie antoinette.

those who blindly follow wenger into the abyss do not show an ability to use their heads so off they must come…

• boo

well said, i sulute you because you will not blindly follow wenger into the abyss without a word of protest.

i hope you will stand with me on the frontline and do your duty my friend when the time comes. and the time will come if wenger does not buy a real goalkeeper…

• boo

well said indian gooner. if i was a rich man i would pay for your flight to north london so we can stand shoulder to shoulder and do our duty and protect arsenal’s once proud fighting spirt. wenger has made us as meek as a mouse these past 5 years.

you have been listening to wenger too long. he has bewitched you and others like you.

try to break the hold he has on you and try to think with your own head and judge for yourself the past five years of mistake after mistake committed by wenger.

because of the likes of you wenger has stagnated. it is your fault wenger has lost the plot. you have played your part in wenger’s lost reputation as a winner.

wenger has one last chance to spend the money that he now has available on strengthing the team.

sign players or signout wenger

we have been silent for too long…

• boo

• lordgunner

they say the same for the Fulham match and wait nobody was boing Wenger or the team, not around me anyway who was inging his name. And no protest after the match too.

And somebody could tell me what the hell is this youth project sh*t.Evrytime i read this i ve to laugh because i m sure people who write it have no idea too.The only youth project that s happening at arsenal is the academy, none of the double winning youth team are first team yet and are on loan (Wilshere,JET, Lansbury,Bartley, AYling,Chesna) or still playing reserve or -18 match (barazite,Aneke,Afobe, coquelin…).

If we have so many average players and Wenger lost it why the hell we are still one of the top team in england and europe.Listening to some of you, we would think that we have fallen in relegation battle.

And yes i know the season ticket are expensive (i m still on the waiting list and pay expensive ticket when available + 50 pound to go to london, drink and eat),the club don’t probably say always the true but which club are anyway.they always tell you want you want to hear whatever team you support, whatever league you play.Stop supporting a football club if you complain about this, because i dont know what world you ve been living on .Saying the true dont win you support (ask any politician that :D )

People who say its one of the worst run(the last 5 years) in arsenal history, you lot don’t know the arsenal history .

• SF Gooner

Let’s be honest. The cunts on here protesting just want Wenger out full stop. Even if he gets a proven Keeper they will find something else to moan about. This is irrefutable fact. The cunty Myles Palmer brigade is gaining speed, completely oblivious to what the man has done for the club in his time there. Wenger should be allowed to see out his contract without fucking MUPPETS making a rukus.

• indian gooner

oh….so we all have to support another club. Why? becoz we question our manager after 5 yrs of throwing away trophies?

Let us ask some more questions-

1)Why didnt AW,for all his mature intelligence and personal skills not break the losing streak after birmingham debacle( the eduardo incidence)?

2)Why didnt AW play AA during the semis of FA cup? – his reasoning was “i want this team to know they can win without him”…..is that a valid reason?what does he think the fans are ?idiots? to spend their time, money, energy following our beloved team…..

3)Why didnt he buy a decent back up for defence knowing that silvester is shit….he could have atleast played the bartleys and nordveidts of our team….they make mistakes, but they learn from it and have a potential to grow…silvestre just makes mistakes and is over the hill…

4)Doesnt he ever say anything to diaby, denilson, walcott and nasri when they fail to turn up for matches….A manager like mourinho once replaced swp after 20 mins when he was playing like shit…..shows intent and sends a strong message to all the players not to take their places for granted….

I am not asking for AWs head,or massive buyings( stars ), or a complete overhaul of mgmt etc….i ask for gradual and visible improvements in the team, attitudes, skills( do clichy and sagna ever cross in practise??), understanding of teammates( can we play any other formation equally well?..we have been together for 5 yrs……).

Atleast now we need AW to comeout and say that some changes are needed and hell rectify them.instead he is trying to give lame excuses for defeats to barca and wigan!!!!

boo….thanks for atleast saying that…my luck was so bad that when i visited london last yr for a conference there was an internationals break:(
.i visited the emirates though:)

• Loki

I suppose that made you feel superior? a big man yes? i wonder if you’d be so clever if you didn’t have time to grammar and spell check before you posted.
I really don’t like arsenal fans like you, you assume just because someones from another country that their “not real fans” i live in Australia I’ve only ever been to The Emirates once but i flew half way across the world to get there! I watch EVERY AFC game every season LIVE! that’s watching at anywhere between the ours of 11pm to the late start matches at 4am! so do want to start talking to me the way you did “jack p”? hmmm? start calling me not a real fan? maybe point out a few flaws in my grammar to help you feel good about yourself!
I’m arsenal through and through and just because we have an opinion that differs to yours doesn’t give you any right to say we should support anyone else, “jack p” had valid points where as you just decided to attack the person rather than give a intelligent opinionated view. This is whats wrong with arsenal at the moment, fans if you can’t agree DON’T Squabble like children respect that that person loves the club and wants relatively the same thing as you ….. Success! and just because you can’t agree on the means in which we should achieve that doesn’t mean you have any right to do what this tool did “Smudger”.

Thanks!

• True Gooner

Please tell us why ‘Smudger’ has no right to say what he said? Please tell us why you or anyone else has a right to voice your displeasure of the team but nobody should be able to critise your views or suggest that you support another club. Who of the supporters as earned the right to tell Wenger who we should buy? Please tell us how airing you views are going to be constructive? What are you hoping to achieve? your an Arsenal supporter, how is this going to help the Arsenal if all supporters moan.

I can’t understand Arsenal supporters that think that Arsenal have a god give right to be winning trophies every year. Its like Liverpool expecting to be in the Champions league because they have a big history. Its not that simple. Wenger has taken Arsenal from being an average club to be a top level club for every year that he has been there. Champions league for 13 years. The Scum have just quailified for CL for the first time this year. Did you see how they celebrate? Arsenal fans just don’t know how lucky they are, Wenger has done all this on less of a budget than any other top half of the premiership team.

Don’t get me wrong. We need to win trophies. This is Wengers job but a bit of rational perspective would not go a miss with some supporters.

• barry

it’s easy to take the moral high ground you tw8t

• The Law

He’s become too stubborn to listen to the fans or the media? When has Arsene ever made decisions based on what the fans or the media think? Are you high?

According to the fans and media, Alex Song was shit and should be sold, Wenger didn’t listen and thank Heaven for that! According to fans and media, Vermaelen wasn’t good enough to play for Arsenal, what with being a short defender and all, and again, Wenger refused to listen. According to fans and media, Sol Campbell was an over-the-hill bum, and again, Wenger ignored “everyone”.

Clearly, he doesn’t know what he’s doing.

You people make me sick.

• Lman

at Jasm….u talk without fact. ferguson has gone 5 seasons with out winning anything after the renovation of Old Trafford in the early 90s but they kept there faith in him and you can se ow many trophies he has won them now. i guess u just started watching football

• Barry

I am truely ashamed to be an Arsenal fan. Many people posting here are not true fans, you’re Wenger fans. You’d settle for 10th place if Wenger told you it was a good season.

I wish you would piss off and form a team called Wenger FC and fill it with 10 year old prospects for the future.

• indian gooner

Hi law,
are u happy that song and campbell came good but “we, the arsenal” finished 3rd?? please dont think we fans are asking for his head.AW is a legend, but he is becoming too stubborn and headstrong with his own importance, undermining the desire to win that the fans crave by throwing away trophies that he could easily have won(CC and FA cups spring to mind.).Just by being sensible and a bit more tactical we could have won the CC( when we were in final against chelsea) atleast. similarly,we could have gone to FA cup finals had he fielded AA from teh beginning of the match, last yr….

We have shown patience, respected his word and believed him but he ends up saying he is happy with his belief in the squad( that has silvestre, almunia and fabianski) and players returning from perennial injuries are like new signings. He has to own up and atleast say that he messed up at parts with certain signings.(denilson, diaby, silvestre, fabianski)…..

he has to rectify them atleast for the sake of the team’s overall balance than to placate the fans……

imagine how rvp, cesc, clichy must feel when they have almunia/fabianski in the goal, denilson along them in mf, silvestre in defence……???they dont deserve to play with such substandard players…..

Kin hell mate. Are you 12? Or is that just your IQ? Do you remember what we were playing in Stroller’s latter days? • Guildford

One of the most common factors on this & other sites is that if anyone even dares to criticise Wenger some people slagg you off & bury their heads in the sands.

So sidestepping that seperate issue :

Best football ? Get raped by United & Chelsea at home, losing to the likes of Sunderland,Wigan,Blackburn & that lot up the road – Really entertaining that was !

The goalkeeper situation was been there for the past 3 seasons & its an insult to mine & many others intelligence to see Almunia or Fabianski in goal for us. If Wenger doesn’t replace them & soon, he needs sectioning not replacing

We left a perfectly good proper stadium where we were already paying top money for a soulless concrete bowl with the most expensive seats in Europe to pay one of the highest wages bills in the country, so we can watch the likes of Denilson,Diaby,Walcott plus the two clowns in goal.

That is not progress & that is what is sticking in the throats of a lot of Arsenal fans, not that we haven’t won a trophy for 5 years because we have no divine right to win anything but the facts are that until Wenger addresses the situation, we are not going to even be competing.

• reggie

Good article there shame that wenger wont change his ways the man is on a massive ego trip and wants to prove to everyone that you can titles on a shoestring?Methinks time for a change at the top wenger must go otherwise we will fall further and further behind….

• Gareth

Seriously. Look at the amount of money Man City, Chelski, Man United and the spuds have spent. Look at teams like Aston Villa (£12 million on Stewart Downing!) and see exactly what are all these teams doing?

Only two of these clubs won anything this year. Only two of these clubs won anything last year. Or the year before that.

Who says spending money means you will win things? Look how much money Real Madrid spent in the summer. They have one of the world’s best players (Christiano Ronaldo) and arguably the best goalkeeper in the world (Iker Casillas). When was the last time they won anything?

Another problem with Wenger “signing out” is that half the team would go with him. Arshavin quoted working with Wenger as one of the key reasons he came to Arsenal. So did Ramsey, Sagna, Nasri, etc, etc. Fabregas has said that Wenger is like a father to him and that he owes him so much for his career. Without all these players (or any inscentive for world class replacements) where exactly would Arsenal FC be? Not in third place that’s for sure.

And if we do drop out of the Champions League, the Europa League, the top half of the Premier League, and even down one or more leagues, exactly where will all you fans in support of this protest be? Supporting the next up and coming club I bet, while the rest of us who love this club will still be at the stadium every Saturday, cheering on the team that is in our hearts.

Come on you gunners!

Mad Dog

If you’ve been a supporter for 36 years, you’d remember we got to loads of finals between the great ’71 side and ’86 but only won the cup in ’79, and then Graham changed things around. – did you protest when we were going through all those years without much by way of a trophy?!

Fuck did you. Why now?, Arsenal are still the Arsenal, we love them just the same.

Win at all costs or its failure is just a product of our new media society. You should be grateful for what Arsene has done for our club. He has raised our world profile into a super club with a financially sound foundation. This short term sacrifice ensures our long term stability and success.

Do you want success at the cost of risking our clubs future? – Look at the state of affairs at Utd and the pool (debts to the eyeballs which will be reflected on the pitch soon, well it has already for the pool). Do you want your grand kids to support the club that’s in your blood?

If you cannot see reality and get sucked into the media guff then you are as stupid as your writing suggests.
