Looks Like Cole Will Be A Gunner?

joecole

According to todays Mail on Sunday England and Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole is ready to turn down Manchester City and make a dramatic switch to Arsenal after the World Cup.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is anxious to strengthen his team, now that Cesc Fabregas, on duty with Spain in South Africa, is expected to leave for Barcelona at the end of the summer.

Capital gains: Joe Cole and his family are keen to stay in London

Cole would not be a direct replacement but the signing of the England man would go some way to soothing the frustration of Arsenal fans, whose team have not won a major trophy since 2005.

While City are also said to be keen on Cole, the stumbling block for both clubs has been Cole’s pay demand of about £100,000 a week.

Cole’s negotiations with Chelsea are understood to have broken down, which would make the 28-yearold a free agent when his contract runs out this summer.

Cole’s view is that because he can sign for a new club without them having to pay the £10million he could command on the open market, he is entitled to request a lucrative financial deal.

On the move: Joe Cole prepares for training at England’s World Cup base in Rustenburg

But a source close to one of the negotiating clubs said: ‘He’s a good player but there are wage structures in place which will prevent clubs giving him what he wants. Maybe he will have to be more realistic.’

The player and his family are keen to stay in London. But Arsenal would not break their pay structure for Cole, with Robin van Persie and Fabregas currently the top earners on about £90,000 a week.

While Cole missed most of the season with injury – and just squeezed into Fabio Capello’s final squad of 23 for South Africa – he is now on the verge of making the starting line-up against the United States next Saturday.

Wenger, with about £30m to spend plus whatever comes in from Fabregas, is likely to pursue Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, ending Manuel Almunia’s career as Arsenal No 1.

Arsenal will 100% not sign Cole or Schwarzer… this is all media bull. There’s zero truth to any of it.

We will sign a CB and depending on departures, very little else.

ur joking , wenger knows he needs to sign experience, of course hell buy a few players he has too and if he doesnt then arsenal fans will loose respect for the club and he knows it. if arsne doesnt buy players then call me trash boy bob, we will sign atleast 3 players this transfer market u watch

Not so sure Dan. A free transfer, a style Wenger likes, keen to stay in town, somebody who can operate in the Prem, somebody who is used to winning trophies, somebody who is experienced.

I can’t see how you can be 100%. I’m not sure myself if Cole will be a worthwhile signing or not, but I think Cole has all the marks of interesting Arsene, just not the wage demands.

    1) Silvestre leaves on free; Chamakh comes on free.

    2) Gallas leaves on free; Joe Cole comes on free.

    Wage structure balanced.

    3) Senderos & Sol shall be out of contract; I would believe Arsene/Ivan to sign at least an experienced/seasoned CB who can also play at RB, perhaps also someone with leadership capabilities in mid or early twenties (to give more years of services to club and development of player).

I personnally choose: Steve Taylor from Newcastle? Heiko Westermann from Schalke 04?

    4) Not sure of the GK situation, if someone is brought in, either Almunia or Fabianski shall leave.

Why didn’t you say? has Joe told you this or do you just know him so well? Where will he go? He definately wants out of Chelsea right?

He has Vermaelen and Djourou at CB right now… he’ll sign another one to battle with Djourou.

He signed Chamakh to help the attack.

It’s looking like Ramsey could play as early as september so a replacement for his isn’t a necessity although we have Wilshere and Lansbury who can definitely cover short term.

If nobody else leaves we won’t sign anyone.

My best mate lives opposite Joe and lets just say he’s not happy at the bridge and hasn’t considered the thought of moving homes.

Haven’t spoken to Joe, spoken to his Dad George. My mum and his dad are still good friends.

As far as Joe knows, Arsenal aren’t even interested so it’s a 100% no go.

I would like us to sign him but it isn’t happening. The media are making this up completely but you all believe what you like. ALthough the metro seems to be the main outlet pressing this… the metro really??

I stopped questioning the Metro after signing up for their World Cup fantasy football. -25 for every goal conceeded and -5 for a handball :D

Manure over a week ago were claiming that Joe Cole was in their baggage signed, sealed and delivered after the World Cup. Lol.
Re Cesc Fabrigas, the exact words of Joan Laporta were ” un jugador menor de 28 años puede dejar el equipo en el que militia si lleva un minimo fe tres años en el mismo”, is quite clearly referring to Clause 17. BUT Laporta said HE himself did not want to go down that road. BUT if a meeting is arranged this week, this issue will be raised.

    Right on Dan.

I never think that I will say this, but at this moment I prefer Cole over Theo. I believed for a long time that Theo will become one day an amazing player but at this moment I really doubt it and I think we should get a more established player to play in that position like Cole.

And Schwarzer NO please. (stick to Frey, Neuer or Hart)

I think he wants an experienced GK for a year before Sczesny takes over. Wonder what this means for Almunia

Yes but sadly there´s no guarantee that Sczesny will become the best keeper in the league once he puts the red and white shirt.

Hopefully he will be and if his performances has been soo solid to make you (we) think that he only needs one more year of experience then I dont see the point of bring someone for a year, stick to calamity Almunia or give full confidence to Vito and Fabianski for next season, anyway will be only one season.

I think we should bring a really good keeper right now without considering if is 24 years old like Neuer or 30 like Frey and if Scezny becomes the great keeper we expect, great! Then Arsene will have to choose betwen “the new keeper” or Scezny.

Its only about to choose the best, like the Given/Hart situation right now and someone will have to be sold. Because there´s no team in the world that could have 2 great keepers.

Actually, no, this report first started in the DAILY STAR, who’ve now gone off it. It’s been picked up by the Mirror and other tabloids.

On twitter, John Cross at first gave the story credence but then later he said he’d been hearing it’s a “no go” from his sources at the club.

I have just looked at Marca.com.
CONGRATULATIONS TO CESC FABREGAS FOR THE YOUNGEST SPANISH (SIC!) player to reach 50 International Caps at the tender age of 23 years of age. In the rout of Poland Cesc scored! Cesc in two years is touted to be the greatest since a certain boxer called Ali.
Cesc I hope your Arsenal; contract is in your preferred language! AND just for 5 years full stop!
