FTK Blog: Who will be Arsenal’s next keeper?

RobGreen

This World Cup has proved dull and uninteresting thus far with opening matches being played out to boring conclusions. The fear of losing the first game means that many teams are defensively orientated. Only Argentina had their star Lionel Messi looking to have transferred his club form to the Internal arena. Looking at the goalkeepers has been alot more interesting. Arsenal are looking for a keeper and some of the prospects linked with the club are on show in South Africa. One cannot judge a book by it’s cover, but I am arguing that you should certainly judge a keeper by his mistakes. Here are the latest mistakes from the weekend round of games at the World Cup.The FIFA ball being used in the competition appears to be coming in for criticism, yet as can clearly be seen the three goal keeping howlers cannot blame the ball in my opinion.

Howler 1.

Robert Green v USA World Cup error

Robert Green is England’s number one yet on Saturday’s performance you wouldn’t guess it. The inability to collect a low ball made the West Ham shot stopper look less than competent. His later good save at the near post which prevented the USA winning was what should have been expected, for to be have beaten at his near post would have been worst than the original mistake and surel;y would have all but ended his goal keeping career at International level in very much the same fashion suffered by Paul Robinson

Howler 2.

Fawzi Chaouchi v Slovenia

Algeria’s keeper Fawzi Chaouchi  made Robert Green look good as he completely failed to collect a curled long range effort from Slovenia’s Robert Koren

Howler 3.

oops! Schwarzer v Germany

I cannot believe that Schwarzer is a top class keeper based on this effort, or am I being harsh? Well thank god he did it before he signed for the Gunners I suppose…lol

So if Arsenal do intend to buy a new keeper, here are my top three favourites in no particular order…

Hugo Lloris of Lyons

Lloris saves compilation

He has the agility, presence and consistency of a world class keeper. Some of his saves are out of this world. Linked with a move to Old Trafford, I wonder if Arsene might be inclined to make an earth shattering bid to secure his services?

Joe Hart of Manchester City

Hart, a keeper to watch?

Generally regarded as the best England’s best future prospect, what would we have to lose if we decided to pledge our future to this very capable keeper?

Sergio Romero

Dutch masterclass from Romero

Would Argentina’s keeper make the trip to the Emirates? He has talent, flair and a great personality added to his amazing shot stopping. The Dutch league club AZ Alkmaar are likely to ask a very high price.

Hope you enjoyed the videos. Ok, you cannot judge a keeper purely on his reflex saves on youtube, as Robert Green’s performance against Arsenal at the Emirates a couple of seasons ago should indicate. Equally one cannot rely on the final league position of the resident Club that the keeper plays at, the final analysis must be made by the hard work of watching the keepers game after game after game.

So who should Arsene Wenger buy as our replacement keeper? Over to you guys….

Nigeria’s keeper is a solid prospect and the best African keeper that I have seen based upon the game against Argentina. you have to ask yourself why then is he only playing for an Israeli club? but should I hold that against him? (in Intensity of facing of top class strikers terms)
I wonder if the player just had one blinder and the worst is yet to come?

I think we’ll go for an older ‘keeper and Almunia will be 2nd choice for the next season or 2. If he improves, he’ll be No.1 if not, he’ll leave and it’ll be between Fabianski and Szczesny for the No.1 spot. Don’t rate Mannone at all, imo Szczesny is the best ‘keeper at the club atm.

If you haven’t seen much of him, here’s a video of some of his saves at Brentford.

If and it’s still a big if, we sign a new ‘keeper it’s bound to be an older more experienced player who will fill in for a couple of seasons to allow Fabianski and Sczcesny to mature. I’m assuming that as soon as a new No.1 signs in Almounia will check out.

Wenger has a maybe misguided faith in Fabianski and would be reluctant to push him out of the club by signing a youngish No.1 such as Lloris or Hart.

My personal choice would be Joe Hart and if Flapihandski doesn’t like it he can do the other thing. Mannone could be sent out on loan and Sczcesny made No.2.

If we can’t get Hart then we should go for Hugo Lloris.

    Problem with the list is….

Lyon are not a selling club, they don’t need the money and wont part with lloris without a HUGE fee!!!

Can you really see Man City selling Hart to a rival….No chance!!!!

And as for the AZ keeper, does no one remember the champions league game. He looked aweful, dodgy on corners, bad distribution and generally made his defence nervous!!!!!

Arsene seems adamant to make Szczesny the no.1 s going for any of the quality keepers in their 20′s is highly unlikely as its would mean that he would be stuck as a back up for a long time (assuming the Hart/Lloris/whoever actually panned out) which is why we’ve been linked with the older 30-somethings, to take the reigns for the next 2-3 yrs till Szczesny’s ready. as much as id love to see Joe Hart as Arsenal’s no.1 i also think Citeh will want that too, as Given is injured for the first few months of the season and getting old. so his signing is very unlikely. look for a Friedel/Schwarzer type signing. I personally hope we can convince Buffon’s uncertainty that a fresh start in the premier-league is best for him.

The Green error was primarily Steven Gerrard error in not closing down the USA player. This error was most likely caused by King injuring himself, because the USA forwards were too quick for the lumbering English defence. A basic goalkeeping gaffe by Green.
It is a question of who is available and at what price. The Australian will certainly fit into the Training Budget of £30 millions. Only about 25 players are in the Players Budget of £30 millions. My estimates. Arsene of course is not in the Arsenal FC budgets!

I’d like Frey from Fiorentina, a very good goalie with bags of experience. Other good goalies include Muslera, Stelenburg, Carrasso and Lloris. But I think of the ones available I think Frey suits us the most.

Manuel Neuer is excellent and would be my first choice pick. German keepers are usually confident and commanding in the area and he is German so he will probably speak good English. And his youtube credentials are pretty good. Does all the reflex saves and stuff.

Obviously another slow day for transfer-related stories in the press! After we’re linked to every keeper from Buffon to Schwarzer, the latest fella in the spotlight is.. Salvatore Sirigu! He’s Italian, 23, plays for Palermo and looks just a lil’ like Gigi Buffon. According to the papers, keeping a clean sheet against Juventus was enough to convince Arsène to sign him.. Why do I have the slight suspicion that this deal won’t be happening?

Goalkeepers….Let`s start by saying who are the unlikely ones to join Arsenal.
Buffon…Lloris…Hart, even if Wenger was prepared to pay the price it`s doubtful they would be released. Szezesny seems to be another season away from what I read so at this moment in time (and after a good rest) I can`t see Almunia being replaced. If avialable I`d put my efforts into convincing Man. City to let Hart go, but I can`t see it happening.

Neuer is my favorite keeper, Im sure that he will have a great World Cup.

I read an interview where he said that his idol is Lehman. He pointed that one of his favorite moments was his save against Villareal and how Lehamn steal the No.1 to Kahn in the Wolrd Cup of 2006.

Do we can consider this as a wink to Arsenal??

Im the only one who thinks that Lloris is a bit overrated?

Im sure that in 5 years he could probably be the best GK in the world. But at this moment he´s far of that.

Maybe when Blanc takes the national team he will call again Frey and Lloris will have more time to mature. At this moment I prefer Frey over Lloris.
