Is Bill Gallas going to remain with us on the one-year deal that AW has offered him? I only ask because I have been told that RVP is after the No.10 shirt at the Arsenal but the club aren’t yet in a posiition to let him have it in case the big defender stays on.
The general popular opinion is that Gallas, who has played for us 101 times since he joined from Shite Bridge in 2006, is on his way out of the Emirates seeking a new ultra-lucrative two-year contract elsewhere.
Panathinaikos and Paris Saint-Germain are said to be interested in the France international, but both clubs have ‘baulked’ at the player’s wage demands. And Gallas is also said to have turned down a proposed two-year deal worth £1.64 million a season at Juventus telling the no doubt incredulous Eye-ties that he wants at least double that.
Presumably AW’s offer is another year on or around the same wonga he has been earning with us over the contract that has just expired and given that he can slot back into the team, his life and routine effortlessly may act in our favour. With Sol Campbell seemingly off to Sunderland or Celtic and Mik Silvestre set for a move to Abu Dhabi-based club Al Jazira, it would make sense to my mind to keep Gallas. In short you can’t have enough good players. I know he can be a moody so-and-so but you can’t question his quality.
Yes, we have brought in Laurent Koscielny from Lorient for an initial £8.1million but will need time to settle etc and grow into his role alongside Tommy V (not that our Belgian beauty needed a period of settling in!). Then we have poor old Johan Djourou who is always bleeding injured and at a push Manu Eboue and Alex Song can slot in at central defence. Kyle Bartley is another prospect but will probably be farmed out on loan, perhaps back to Sheffield United.
I suppose AW could always bring Igor Stepanovs back as I am led to believe he is unhappy at his Latvian club, FK Jūrmala-VV!
So it seems there is still a chance Billy G will accept an offer from AW to stay on for an additional 12 months. Welcome your thoughts…
