Igor Akinfeev talks To Arshavin

Igor_Akinfeev

Igor Akinfeev has set his sights on a move to either Arsenal or Manchester United as he looks for a new challenge away from Russia.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper, who has already made 40 appearances at international level, attracted admiring glances following his performances for CSKA Moscow in last season’s UEFA Champions League.

He has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford for some time, with current United No. 1 Edwin van der Sar drawing towards the end of his career.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have been tipped to bring in a new shot-stopper this summer and Akinfeev has spoken to compatriot Andrey Arshavin about the club.

Akinfeev admits he would be keen to join one of the Premier League giants, having heard glowing reports about Arsenal from Arshavin.

“Arsenal and Manchester United are two of the very best clubs in the world,” Akinfeev told the Daily Star Sunday.

“If both of them are going to be looking for keepers this summer – or even the next summer – then of course I am interested.

“I have spoken with Arshavin about Arsenal and London life. He has only had good things to say about the club and the city.

“He said some very nice things about me going on to be the best goalkeeper in the world – and that he would like me to reach that goal at Arsenal with him.

“Of course there is every chance this will be the last season for Edwin van der Sar.

“To be the No.1 for Manchester United would be a great honour too.

“They are the biggest football club in the world and, to be their No.1 for a length of time, you know you will have success.

“Juventus have also expressed an interest in me – but Arshavin has sold England to me very well.”

Akinfeev does not believe CSKA would block a transfer if the opportunity to move on presented itself.

“My contract doesn’t expire until 2013 but I have a great relationship with my president,” he explained.

“If the right offer, both for me and the club came in, I don’t think anybody would stand in my way.

“I have been in Russia for a lot of years now and feel ready for a new challenge.”

Akinfeev is one hell of a goalkeeper, though I suppose some fans will have critics moving from the Russian league to the Premier. Fact is the guy has proved it at International level and during the Champions League that between the posts he has massive potential and has been showing so much promise ever since making his mark in Russian football.

If I’m correct, he made his International debut during his teens and for a goalie, his talent speaks for himself.

The only question mark would be the asking price, considering his contract does not expire for another 3 years and while CSKA have the financial power, they will want quite a sum of cash for this sought after goalkeeper. I know their president has been holding out a high demand for Milos Krasic and I expect the same for Ankinfeev.

I would almost cry tears of joy, if Wenger actually shocked everybody and splashed the needed cash to get a goalkeeper as good as Igor Akinfeev between the sticks!

I’ll see it before I believe it, though.

City advertising images must not contain Bellamy or Shay Given, at least that’s one story going around, another earlier report that Joe Hart told Given he would be No. 1 this season then carries more credibility, of course these are probably just rumours at a time when there’s no real stories around, however AW rates Shay Given.

Twitchy can have Bellamy at shite hart lane, he’d fit in great with that other little turd Bentley, two self opinionated and loudmouthed barspuds

Why we did not pick up Given from the Mags i will never know.Wenger – keeper – blind spot?

The story that his missus didn’t want to leave the North was bollocks. Given would have walked the distance to play for us and his talent and enduring consistency is why, IF we go for an older keeper, we should get him on-boarded.

Wise head, commanding, athletic, agressive and constantly bollocking his defence.

    JUST WHAT WE NEED!

Yay I like Arshavin again, do Im the only one who loves players when they said good things to his national team mates to join Arsenal? (Not the Barca style).

The few times that I seen him play he was great and if Im not wrog the best save of the 09/10 UEFA Champions League was one of this guy. I also seen him make a silly mistake but we can expect that for his age, anyway he´s better than Almunia+Fabiansk and probably Don Vitto together.

If Arsene want to show the wallet we should get him if not Given is a good option too.

What was I saying on the Alumnia post only a few days ago? Akinfeev would be a great signing & I really hope we get the deal sorted ASAP if anything is to happen – I would love to see him in the No.1 shirt

I would not put a “kopeck” on Akinfeev joining the Arsenal. Soviet Sport has lifted this interview from the Daily Star. First, any Russian would not use the surname but the diminutive of Andrei. Second the Daily Star omitted the “But” as Akinfeev said , according to the Soviet Sport, “But to be the No.1 at MU (Manure) would be the greatest honour”.
Like the Cesc “if” or “whether”, the “but” is a tabloid attempt to make a headline.

No.1 priority for Wenger is crisis talks with Fabregas. This ridiculous situation must be resolved this week.

If Fabregas is to go, then he should go immediately so that the club can have time to sign a replacement. If he is definitely staying then other priorities can be addressed.

Either way Mr. Wenger/Mr. Gazidis, get it sorted!!!!

Where will they get the money from? They had to borrow to pay the wages last month. They are effectively trading whilst insolvent. Neither Uefa or Fifa have the balls to do anything about it.

How do you know they haven’t already spoken? After one of the friendlies (can’t remember which) Wenger was asked “have you spoken to Cesc” and he said “yes, but i won’t reveal what was said ini a private conversation”.

All the hype and rumour about the situation is still originating in Spain and to be honest they don’t know anything.

On the goalkeepers, we are also being linked in the papers with Maarten Stekelenburg but really I’m not holding my breath on either of them.

Didn’t they get a loan of stupid amount million Euros a week or so ago to cover unpaid wages and expenses?

I’m not sure who’s the biggest disgrace, the c*ntalonians or the governing body, though I did read it would be difficult for them to pursue Barca legally on tapping up as Laporta has left office so his comments are nothing to do with them and the players are not officials of the team, same as the Spanish media so Barca’s officials are relatively clean and it’s unlikely UEFA/FIFA will pursue the flimsy case.

I thought the rule included anyone who was officially related to the team, ie. including the players and coaching staff who were encouraging a player to break his contract. But what do i know! I never expected FIFA to do anything anyway. Useless shits.
