Cesc – Enough, Already!

Cesc-Fabregas_1673048

I’m afraid I’m not going to add anything new to this interminable, torturous debate today. However I’m mad as hell and I’m just not gonna take it anymore!

I’m sure the entire Gooner Nation is as comprehensively honked off as me with the constant self-righteous, self-regarding, self-serving pronouncements that seem to emerge daily  from the Camp Nou boardroom and dressing room regarding Cesc Fàbregas. The latest volley comes from Barça skipper Carles Puyol.

As those who read my blogs regularly here at arsenalinsider.com will know, I’ve been a great admirer over the years of the institution that is FC Barcelona. That regard has been and is being sorely strained by l’affaire Cesc Fàbregas

Let’s have this right. Fàbregas freely signed a greatly enhanced contract extension eighteen months ago. This wasn’t The Godfather. Luca Brasi wasn’t in on the talks. Nobody put a pistol to Cesc’s head and gave him the choice of his signature or his brains on the contract.

The sense of entitlement that lies behind the constant bleating as  we’re holding Cesc “hostage” is just too much to bear. It is VERY important that we not be bullied into selling Cesc for a penny less than our minimum evaluation of his worth AND without a suitable replacement in the bag.

The player has responsibilities too. It’s fine for him to say what he would like in private. He also has to accept though that with the hugely lucrative new contract extension he signed comes responsibilities. He can’t reasonably expect to have his cake and eat it. He earns a salary which costs the club well over £6 million a season. That money comes out of the pockets of every Gooner who pays to get in to the Grove, buys a television subscription or a replica shirt.

Good luck to the bloke. I wish I had a skill I could sell for such riches. I do expect something back though. I’ve read various conspiracy theories that the constant stream of statements emanating from Catalonia is an orchestrated plot to drive a wedge between Cesc and the Gooner Nation. I feel the pain of those who advance these theories. I think though that it has far more to do with an institutional arrogance on the part of FC Barcelona.  What Barça wants Barça is entitled to, is the mind-set.

I have a simple message:

F**K OFF!

I’m under no illusions. If we manage to hang on to Cesc, I suspect it will only be for one further season. I always thought as he emerged through the ranks at Arsenal that he would return home one day. I was hoping that wouldn’t be until he was 28-29. That’s fine. Here’s a plan mate. Have the courage of your convictions. Let your contract expire. Then you can do what you like and go where you like. You decided to sign the new contract extension you were offered. You’re now obliged to keep up your side of the bargain.

We’re all familiar with the one-way bet that player contracts represent in football these days. At some stage somebody has to make a stand. Those who know me know that I’m all for workers’ rights. I thought footballers were kept in a position of serfdom for far too long. I agree with freedom of contract. With the huge salaries that top players receive these days it isn’t asking too much too expect them to honour the agreements to which they freely assent however.

There has been talk that Barça is trying to push Cesc into making a formal transfer request to force the fee down. I can see how having a player openly demanding a move puts pressure on the selling club but we need to resist this. We’re entitled to be respected as a club.

The way I feel at the moment, I wouldn’t be tempted to sell Barcelona pooh in a paper bag.

Keep the faith!

I have a feeling that I want to slap the ugly face of puyol then force him to cut his hair by himself. things I don’t understand are
1- he signed an extension to his contract and no one forced him to do that.
2-Barca are broke and don’t have the money then they can pay his value so what do they want now
3- why don’t barca players cut their salaries and pay the transfer fee for him

The tripe coming out of Farca players gobs is getting more and more stupid like you say there trying to drive a wedge between the fans and the player but I just hope all the Arsenal fans don,t fall for it we know a small minority will boo Cesc but the majority will still get behind him, this as made me lose all the respect i had for Farca as a club and when the debt gets larger for them maybe we can put a £1million bid in for Messi

Cesc is a cunt, he can fuck off – he doesnt deserve to belong to our club, let alone captain. He has one good half season, then all of a sudden he wants to up sticks and fuck off. Well fuck off then you cunt. When Wenger took you from Barcelona, you werent cutting it and i doubt you would have stayed or got to the levels you have under Rijkaard or Van Gaal or Antic.

We made you, the player you are, now fucking show some respect. Deja vu with Adebayoor anyone? Strip the cunt of the captaincy, give it to Van Persie, and boo the cunt till he fucks off back home to his mummy and daddy, i certainly will and loudly

Players play 4 money, and fame. if Cesc is a good player but has nothing to come show his sibblings then he is not doing fine. A player needs to win trophies not just acclemations. let us take facts. if Cesc says his heart is with Barcelona whats wrong with that? Who does not envy Barcelona for their good and wonderfull football and their winning of trophies? Come on guys, Cesc wants to go because we are not winning trophies and he wants them for his cabinet. Let us play footbal win trophies and players will remain with our club forever. Let us face the facts. Last year we spat at Adebayo and Kolo, this year is Fabregas next year Van Persie etc.

    Well said my thoughts exactly.

    1. Barcelona should just fuck off, they have been told enough times already. They must be deaf as well as arrogant.
    2. Even if they convince Cesc to put in a transfer request, Arsene can and will turn it down. We simply don’t have to sell him.
    3. He is worth £60m+, not a penny less.
    4. Barcelona are massively in debt so could pay anyway
    5. Their shit-brained players and the fawning fucking media that slaver at every word can fuck right off and die for all I care.

Persoanlly I think Fabregas is the big instigator in all the Barcelona players saying what they are saying. I am sure he is saying it to them privately he badly wants to come and everything, he knows the flak he would get if he came out publically and started trash tlaking so he is letting his barcelona goons do it for him. Have you seen the way he has been acting, and the 6 weeks in in the world cup with spain probably didnt help as well, Puyol and pique are big instigators in this, and Fabregas is probably telling them to cause up a stir so he can leave. if he dsont want to be at the club then let him fuck of, I dont care if its only 1 more seaosn, whats the use keeping him, knowing he will be gone the following season, his comments, and schizophrenic behaviuor regarding this is well out of order.

Arsenal football club made him, if not for the club he would probably be still rotting in Barcelona youth then reserves. The fans and the club deserve better, sell him for 40-45 million and be done with it, go buy some players to replace him, and lets get done with this whole matter. I dont want to go through this again next season, when for 3 months all we will hear is prices, and trash talking. This guy blatantly has no respect for Arsenal football club or the fans, this is why he is letting his goons do it for him. You think if he told them not to say it they wouldnt?. They would stop ionstantly if Fabregas told them to stop, this is how close they are to him. Fabregas is stirring it all up.

For to long now, we have had traitorous players using us as a stepping stone thinking they are to good for Arsenal. Get rid of him, get the money and invest in the players we need.

    Hi all,

good article and all. I am just curious to know if there is anyone who has seen or read an article where Cesc actually say that he will go to Barcelona to PLAY? Please, give me a link then!
He says he is loves Barcelona and that he is a member and all that is probably true – and why shouldn’t it be? A lot of people loves his hometown and home club. That doesn’t mean he is going to leave Arsenal or that he doesn’t love playing for Arsenal. This affair is just rubbish speculation in my book and also very bad imagewise for Barcelona as a club and for those Gooners that doubt the words of Wenger and Fabregas.
Until I hear the words out of his own mouth I don’t doubt he is Arsenal.

Cesc silence is speaking volumes to me.

EVERYONE who plays for Spain and Barca has been putting pressure on Arsenal. Cesc has had a Barca shirt forced on him, and, he is silent about what is going on. That does not scream the sound of an ARSENAL CAPTAIN. This term CAPTAIN means a lot to Arsenal fans and this used to mean a lot to the club. This way that a captaincy is used as a carrot to keep a player is not the way it should work.

I do hope Cesc goes, I wish him well and he has been a great player for the club, as for a great CAPTAIN I think he has let himself down and many many many angry Arsenal fans.

Still Nasri, I think, will have a blinder of a season…
Hope Tommy V is the next captain.

When you wrote, “I’ve read various conspiracy theories that the constant stream of statements emanating from Catalonia is an orchestrated plot to drive a wedge between Cesc and the Gooner Nation,” I assume you’re referring to my piece from the other day.

However, I agree with you that there is very much an institutional arrogance asserted on the part of Barcelona. However, Wenger’s refusal to assent to their “plans” and Cesc’s reluctance to lodge a formal transfer request means they are forced to try to achieve their ends in a more sly, underhanded manner.

I don’t think it’s a “conspiracy theory” at all to claim that what we have witnessed this summer is a coordinated media campaign perpetrated by the players on behalf and at the behest of the club.

Actually I think people need to chill a little bit. Judging by the interview AW gave at the training camp, where not only did he reiterate his stance onCesc but I think your find that he also mentioned that this stance was not only for this season but the following as well.

I also think behind Barca ridiculous public attempts to tap up Cesc lies a double edge sword. There is of course the very real fact that they are faulting financially and the desire to try and get Cesc on the cheap whilst they can is the first and then there’s Real Madrid who have just acquired the services of Jose Mourinho. This for me is definite factor. Jose Mourinho, as we all know is a supreme tactician, especially in the art of defense. For me Cesc is 1 of the best if not the best at opening up defenses – just think back to CL and what happened there! I also think you will find giving that Cesc is a very professional footballer and regardless of everything that’s been spewed out by his team mates etc he will act in the best interest of Arsenal FC when he plays for us.

I think he feels guilty and lets face it he is guilty. I am sure that Cesc would of had the talk with Arsene and I am sure Arsene told him how important the captains armband is. For the captain to want to leave one year into the captaincy does not make a legacy.

He views Arsene like a father so I think that we can all relate to having the feeling that we have let down a member of our family.

Cesc is a Gunner… your “one good half season” comment is offffff theeeee maaaaark. We all knew Cesc would go back home one day and hoped it wouldn’t be till he is a bit older, but as long as we get full value for him – barca has set this price as much as Arsenal, when they paid for Zlatan w/Eto and 40m, or whatever it was – and Arsenal WILL get what they deserve for, as you mentioned somewhat crudely, making him the player he is today.

So Cesc stays one more season, hopefully leads our club to the championship, and we get 50m for him next season. It’s down to Wenger and Gazidis to spend that income on two great players… Arsenal gets stronger and stronger.

Cesc has been a straight shooter throughout this saga. the contract he signed doesn’t guarantee the player will want to stay for another five seasons, but it does put our club in a strong bargaining position; it’s the reason Cesc will be a gooner in 10/11, and that we will get PAID BIG MONEY next summer. Like I said, it sucks Cesc won’t be here for the length of his contract, but he has always been a stellar representative of our club on and off the pitch.

It’s a rational emotion to be upset by his potential move; you clearly love the guy but just happen to be a inarticulate twat. The misplaced vitriol you spew toward Cesc is embarrassing and shameful. You suck. C’mon Arsenal!

At last Vic C is getting the responses he deserves from the Spenetic Gooner nation.
Hughes is now the manager of Fulham. A few years back Cesc questioned his team’s style of football. Hughes reposte, was to say “where are your medals”. Cesc is now a World Champion, a European Champion and a possible Barcelona chump! According to the “contract” he has agreed with Barcelona, Cesc is a “third tier” player with a salary of €7 millions a year. If Cesc is a good boy, he may be “first tier” in five years time. In other words Cesc may earn €12 millions a year. That is why I think Cesc should stop being a Peón, in all meanings of the word, according to drae.rae.es.
As for Puyol the player, how tall is he, how good is he, in that case why does size matter? A need for a top GK is a priority, to make up any physical diadvantage in stature.
    Once again, well done Vic.

I actually think that the last thing in the world that Barca would ever possibly hope for is for Cesc to hand in a transfer request. That would be a nightmare for Barca. The moment Cesc hands in a transfer request Arsenal can then say openly to the media “okay, Cesc is for sale, highest bids please” and can wait for City and Madrid to bid 100million. They can then turn to Barca and say “okay, what’s your bid?” and the perilous state of Barca’s finances would be left plain for all to see. Barca definately do not want Cesc to hand in a transfer request.

I agree with you except for one thing. The reasons why we shouldn’t sell Cesc this summer is because Barca haven’t and won’t bid the amount of money he is worth.

The second reason is that I hope Ramsey will be ready to be starting every game in central midfield in the 2011/12 season. Here’s sorta how I see it: A lot of what’s quoted and said for for the consumption of Barca fans and Spanish fans.
Over here, a lot of free-agent baseball players go out and say how much they admire this team or that team, or how much they always wanted to play there. That always drive the fans of those teams to a frenzy, and probably puts some pressure on the price of that player.
I think Cesc is saying all the right things for Barca fans. He will say nice things about Arsenal.
I also think Barca club officials are saying those things because they don’t want to come out and say they can’t afford everything and Cesc will cost a lot.
Maybe he will go to Barca. I mean it’s his home. But maybe he’s just being nice. And maybe the Barca officials are saying what they are saying because they don’t want to come out and tell the Catalonians they aren’t really that interested in the deal and can’t afford it.
    Maybe everyone is blowing smoke.

    2) He hasn’t actually said he wants to leave now.
    3) If you really believe that no player should have any regard for any other team then will you be booing most of our team (surely AA wants to go home some day, what about VanP, Nasri, the list goes on).
You’re either drunk or a simpleton to make such a comment without actually knowing the facts (or a spud… which also makes you a simpleton).

Another twat making comments without actually knowing the facts, unless you have been involved in the meetings between AW and Cesc. Have you?

Barca systematically and deliberately tapping up of Cesc has been simply disgusting. From Barca club officials to their players and the media, they have had a field day trying to unsettle Cesc, a player contracted for a further 5 years.

Imagine is Barca behaved this way with a ManU or Liverpool player? Would the English media have behaved the same way, perpectuating the tapping up? I suspect not, rather the English media would be calling for FIFA to take serious action agaisnt BARCA!!!

Arsenal can now benefit from financial winfalls resulting from 5 years of very tight fiscal management led by Wenger. Success off the field will bring results on it!

    Let the games begin
