Gallas opts to join also-rans

william-gallas-protest1

By CARL ELDRIDGE Bill Gallas is poised to cross the big divide and join that lot and for me they are getting a class act but a flawed version given his sulky manner and tendency to throw tantrums.

Harold Redknapp clearly thinks he has another year of Premier League football in him but AW doesn’t (or he does but was unwilling to pay the going rate). I find it slightly odd that we didn’t keep him especially as we are so short in central defence. That may change if Seb Squillaci joins, of course.

Gallas, 32, is available on a free transfer after rejecting the offer of a two-year deal with us because it amounted to a significant pay-cut.

He is reported to be having medical tests at Shite Hart Lane today and you have to reckon that given that lot’s terrible display, especially defensively, against the wee nippers from Berne prompted Redknapp’s decision to try to land our former skipper.

Now he is close to agreeing a one-year deal at what will be his third London club, having arrived at N5 from Chelshit.

Redknapp said of Gallas: ‘He’s been an Arsenal player but he was at Chelsea before that and playing abroad before he arrived there. It’s not like we would be signing Tony Adams. He’s a good player and he would be a very useful addition to our squad.’

Gallas is reported to be having medical tests at Shite Hart Lane today and you have to reckon that given that lot’s terrible display, especially defensive, prompted his decision to land our former skipper.

The big question: will he be cheered or jeered when we play them. I think cheering him would be a brilliant wind up on our chums from up the road, don’t you?

They get him on reduced wages for a year long contract, while we have to settle for bedding in a middle ranking journeyman behind him in the French national team that breaks our rules of paying for thirty somethings.
Who’s really getting the better deal??

Twitchy said he did not want”big money”mmmmmmm so i suppose we will have to try and work out his definition of “big money”but something is not right here.

Not really bothered about this one to be honest. We have had our worst defence in the last 10 years since Gallas has been at the club. He scores goals and gets forward well, but that is not his job. Ashley Cole made a mug of him last season.

This is a big deal- he will turn Spurs into real title contenders.
Make no mistake thats all they are missing.
This is proving 2 things- he is a mercenary and he had no commitment to Arsenal football club.He deserves all the abuse he will get over the next year or more.

Glad he has left, an overrated defender along with Sagna & Clichy….our defensive record in last 3 years says it all!

How will Gallas turn them into contenders?? Basically you are saying they already are. Our squad is better than Spurs and he didn’t turn us into contenders.

He says he is interested in signing a CB and Squillaci is one he is looking at. As for the keeper, he doesn’t want to talk about it as he is focussing on this weekend and needs to focus on Fab and Almunia.

Gallas is a good defender and i think our letting him go was beyond been a nice defender but his relationship with other Arsenal players. Even at that, it still hurts to see a player like Gallas join spurs. I think AW should get a better advicer.

Bit harsh on Clichy and Sagna. They are 2 of the better full backs. The problem is they are often exposed due to so many players going forward. A decent kepper behind and a better setup in front of them and I think Sagna and Clichy will improve.

Gallas is a good footballer. I wouldnt say he was a good defender. There is a big difference.

He had a mixed one last season, he can be a great defender and a right pain in the arse and gives the impression he can reduce morale so I’m not bothered either

Im sorry but Gallas was undoubtedly a good defender. he was always a star performer in the big games. against united he has been formidable over the last 3 years, every game. obviously his temperament was iffy which caused him to seem less effective in the more inconspicious fixtures, but gallas consistently performed for us, doing his job with minimal fuss- well until he went on an offensive rampage now and again.

Aw’s decision to let him go and then sign his back up in the french squad, a 30 year old himself is criminal, moreso for the fact that song will be required to cover at CB more often this season, thus wasting arguably our best performer last season whilst playing as a holding midfielder and NOT a CB

I will be cheering him simply because this is one of the best things that could happen to Arsenal, for years I though that he was playing for us as a Chelski infiltrated and now he will create those problems at Tottenham.

Yes he was a top defender but he was also a big problem in the locker rooms and his style of play is very similar to T.V. so its the best for Arsenal.

Finally Arsene remove one of the biggest cancers of the team.
