Squillaci jets in for Arsenal switch

By  Published: 22nd August 2010

Sebastien-Squillaci

by CARL ELDRIDGE Sebastien Squillaci is on his way to the rip-roaring red machine that is the mighty Arsenal, according to reports. AW has successfully bid Sevilla five mil for the central defender and he will become our third signing of the summer following the acquistion of  Laurent Koscielny and Maroane Chamakh.

It appears that France international Squillaci has flown to London tonight in preparation for a medical tomorrow morning at the Arsenal with a view to agreeing a three-year switch. The Spanish club’s website is reported to have announced the move is a done deal.

Squillaci is said to have been withdrawn from the Sevilla squad that faced Braga in the first leg of the Champions League play-off tie on Wednesday. Apparently as the Spanish club did not want to wreck a deal by making him cup-tied in Europe.

AW has long said that we are in need of back-up in the heart of our defence after the departures of William Gallas, Sol Campbell, Philippe Senderos and Mikael Silvestre.

Johan Djourou and Alex Song (who looked a natural against Blackpool y’day it has to be said) can partner either TV or Koscielny but we need cover without a doubt.

This guy will partner TV with Kos as back up.Djourou’s injury problems have now pushed him down th 4th CB.Now lets get Schwarzer

Pretty pleased with this signing. Bemused at some reports saying he’s a veteran…at the ripe old age of 30! But brings alot of experience and with Koscielny looking like a gem, I believe with an ideal keeper Schwarzer) we’re looking pretty set!

Well, I can’t say I wouldn’t have preferred Ciani to Squillaci… but if this is indeed the case, I’ll back him all the way.

What make Arsene the Arsenal Manager ( not me and the rest of people) is that he get the guy for 5.3M instead of 8M that other rate him.. Great bussiness Mr. Wenger.

actually hes right footed get ur facts right!!!!!!

  • GPeace

What’s all this talk of Stekelenburg? Are we genuinely being linking with him? I can’t find any concrete evidence that we are, as much as I’d like that.

    Any info’ links anyone??

Did anyone notice that Schwarzer was not in the squad for Sunday’s game against Man.U?

The guy is injured. We do not want another bed blocker in the treatment room.

At his age he is unlikely to play more than one season for us and then the whole tiresome process starts again.

Given is also injured, with a dodgy shoulder, and it seems likely to be a lasting injury.

Surely we can find a good, experienced ‘keeper who isn’t about to claim his bus pass.

the blasting of Blackpool is not the answer,we have to remember how Arsenal suffers at the high season therefore we need to strengthen our squad, more over a very good goal keeper like stekelenburg. Please this goes to the management please you help us we the fans we suffered a lot……..
