Tony Pulis and Sam Allardyce are battling it out to be named as coach of rugby union’s newest side Stoke Rovers. Both managers are said to be in the running for the position at the newly-formed club, who will play their home games at Britannia Park. “Both Sam and Tony have a fine pedigree in the game and it’s a hair’s breath between them as to who gets the job,” said Rovers chairman Dave Bassett.
Back in the real world, what gave you most pleasure yesterday…the fine triumph by AW’s pass-masters? Enormous Sam having to take time out from gorging his bloated boat to explain why his thug-lumpers lost the game? Or a one-time non-league club beating a, er, former non-league club?
Well done Theo for showing the confidence in his ability with his display at Blackburn — it’s not often you see such a netbuster. I though Cesc was off the pace a little but will improve with games. RVP? Let’s hope it’s nothing too serious and the international break will give him extra time before the Bolton game.
I think we can and will improve and we could do, as ever, with a bit more cut and thrust up front. Laurent Koscielny looks as if he will be molded into a decent central defender but definitely needs to bulk up a bit. AA needs to work on his 90-minute contribution but scored and had a hand in our first so we can’t be too critical.
A pat on the back for MA1 for an assured display too, as well as plaudits for Alex Song and Bacary Sagna. But hey, it was a team effort and we move on…Bolton at home next up.
So a good weekend all things considered, eh? I even got to party with our 1979 FA Cup final hero Alan Sunderland and mega-chested Dolly Parton (see picture)!
To this morning’s papers and that poor didums Pulis has come out squealing after AW righty rubbished his shite side’s rugger tactics — with egg-chasers Ryan Shawcross and Abdoulaye Faye coming in for a bit of stick — and his spleen is indeed vented.
As quickly as his mummy could put back the toys coming from his pram, another range of kids’ playthings would be hurled from his child’s pushing device.
The manager who likes to, er, shower with his players bleated: “What Wenger’s said is totally wrong and out of order, so we’ve written to the FA, the Premier League and Arsenal’s chief executive. I’m deeply disappointed with Wenger, I don’t expect that from a fellow manager.
“You deal with things in the right and proper manner, so now the club will deal with it. People have a responsibility. That’s why there were two world wars, so that people could have the freedom to say what they like. If he says those things then he must believe them. He must say what he thinks, but my view is different to his. What he said about Ryan was poor, but that’s Wenger for you.”
As the Sunday Mirror’s Paul Smith said on Sky this morning: “I am surprised Pulis hasn’t called in the police…he’s called everyone else!”
