Fab or MA1 for Bridge test?

champions_league_beams
by CARL ELDRIDGE Credit where it is due. Lukasz Fabianksi gave us a glimpse of what AW says he sees in training every day with a confident display capped with a fine penalty save as the Arsenal saw off Partisan Belgrade.

Typically, though, we should have been home and hosed by the time the Pole pushed aside the spot-kick from Brazil-born striker Cleo to keep the score at 3-1 against the Serbs in this Champions League encounter in Belgrade.

AA could have had a hatful but he did manage to bag the first with Marouane Chamakh and Sebastien Squillaci both scoring from headers. Once again Jack Wilshere played an influential part in the victory that at least restores a bit of confidence ahead of the game at Chelsea on Sunday.

AW has had his say on Fabianski. He said: “Hopefully that will give him belief and confidence. I am confident he will come out as a great keeper, I have always said that. We have to keep confidence in him and he needs to gain experience from games like this.
“The Fabianski we saw tonight was the keeper we see in training and he had a faultless game. I knew a performance like that was in him, we just had to get it out of him. But that penalty save will lift his confidence and hopefully it will do him the world of good.

“Overall, especially in the first half, I thought we looked very dangerous and Jack Wilshere, Arshavin and Chamakh were a constant threat. And once we went 2-1 in front, I felt we always looked comfortable. It was important to win after a big disappointment against West Brom.
“It puts us in a good position, confidence-wise. Sunday is a big game for us. I have always believed in him, and I am still confident he will turn out to be a great goalkeeper. I’ve always said that, but you have to keep confident in him and he needs games like that.

With MA1 supposedly injured, AW must now decide who to pick in goal for the trip to Shit Bridge. He added: “At the moment Almunia is injured, we will have to see how his injury goes, but at the moment it is too early to say.”

Jack the Lad looked as if he was a ball boy when he gave his post-match thoughts to Sky, whose two idiot commentators were biased beyond belief against the Arsenal. He said: “We stuck to our guns and deserved the win. Our keepers have been under a lot of pressure, but Lukasz did well and and made a great save at the end, so fair play to him.”

Who’s of belived it, Fabianksi proving us wrong. I only hope he can get the monkey off his back and keep goal like he did when he first joined us.

I thought it was a very suspect game last night, if we play like that against Chelscum on Sat, we’ll be torn apart. So many of the team looked out of sorts. defence was the main issue. That Djourou should stay injured. Never thought he could cut the mustard, and last night was more evidence to that.

Squillaci looked out of place, and seemed to be good on the ball but hightly suspect in defending. Nice that he scored though.

Song was gash on a stick, kept losing the ball, and was a shade of the player he’s been for us.

    fingers crossed for Sat!

It’s all too preditcable, Fab is a good keeper, but inconsistent. we all know there’s another disatserous flap about to happen. one of the clowns will let us down, just when we don’t need it. we’ll be 1.0 up with 5 mins to go on Sunday and, wait for it a keeping error to throw away the points.

as for the amazingly biased commontary, where did they get those wankers from, were they memebrs of the Spuds backroom team, all they could manage to say was how we were doing everything wrong, absolute joke Sky, terrible.

    Your name says it all.

Can you give no credit to the team? They won by three goals to one!

    They won away!

They won away at one of the most intimidating stadiums in Europe!

They won without the presence of Fabregas, van Persie, Walcott, Vermaelen, Almunia, Bendtner, Ramsey, Diaby.

    What more do you want?

Oh! and despite being kicked, tripped, body checked and elbowed Jack Wilshre still got up and played a brilliant game. Can you not find just a single word of praise for him?

Yes we won, but the performance was frustrating as usual. We gave away cheap penalties. Djorou didnt luk convincing at all. Song has become so lethargic- he holds the ball uncessesarily, gets dispossed easily and in dangrous positions, and cant pass. He really needs to wake up if we are going to get anything out of the game at Chelsea

i thought Djorou had a poor start, but actually did really well after that, he won every header and was a very strong physical presence, against a very physical side. you’re right about Song though, he seemed all at sea for most of the game, a real shame cos i really rate him. i think i may be in the minority there.

    Embryo,

You’re not alone in rating Song, I too think he is a very good player but only in the holding role. For the last couple of games he seems to have been morphing into Diaby.

He his getting too far forward and getting caught in possession too many times.

If he is going to venture forward he must get back into defence, much more quickly, when the ball is lost.

    A very good win.

Song should stick to his dm duties and rarely go far over the half way line so he can cover for the defenders and break-up attacks. he obviously wants to try the flash stuff like cesc and jack can do. but a jack or cesc he isn’t!

i thought the ‘keeper had a very good game as did most of the squad. a bit too physical for vela though?

One game doth not a goalkeeper make.

Almunia should still be in goal for Chelsea. If he’s fit and doesn’t play then that’s the end of his Arsenal career and we’d be stuck with Flapsy … like forever.

    Vijay,

One look a Almunia’s face at the end of the West Brom game said it all, the guy was mentally shattered.

Fabianski’s confidence must be much higher after a good performance last night.

Could Almunia’s injury be a face saver?

It must be Fabiansky in goal on Sunday.

When Denilson plays, Song seems to be sent further forward which i find very strange, of the two, Song is by far the better DM, nad Denilson is by far the more cretive around the box.

SKY HATE US, FACT, why because Arsenal tried to set up an independent european league which would have meant Sky paying out millions to cover the matches. They will never forgive us and frankly i couldnt give a fuck. This also explains why UEFA want us to sink. Do what i did and CANCEL YOUR SKY SUBSCRIPTION and watch the games onthe internet where thay dont get a penny

Call me crazy, but if Cesc can play vs Chelski, I keep Jack and Rosicky in the side at the expense of Arshavin. Play Cesc-Song-Rosicky in the midfield and Jack-Chamahk-Nasri up front…Jack and Nasri track back better than Arsh does, let him be supersub for this game.

As for yesterday…awesome win! I thought we played very focused and smart football in a nutty atmosphere.

    Please all wake up.
Yes I am very happy we got the win, but reality check everyone.. Belgrade have never won a single champs league game, and we were level until 71mins when 10 of those 71mins they had 10 men.
Flapianski deserves praise just like he deserves criticsim when he makes errors but bet your last penny that he will mess up again.
I love the optimism fella’s but we were poor until they went down to 10.
Chavski game is going to be tough, I am dreading us being torn apart again.

For the second penalty, the “FAB” did a little dip of his shoulder to the left and Cleo thought “Right” and the “FAB” thought “sucker”!!
I think AW had a master touch with the “FAB”, by Wojciech Szczesny (Szczenny in Spanish is easier!, in Russian it is better) being in attendance. Two Poles together and not apart.

The Gunners seem to have acquired a few too many lavatory attendants by the excreta expressed in some of the posts in this parish. By lavatories I mean those in the less salubrious parts of Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.

I think AW is working with Song to find some vision and passing success as all know it is the weakness of his game. He gets a boot in possesses the ball at feet everyone moves for him and he gives it away with no or little pressure! very dangerous as counterattack is now at or near our third and people have committed themselves forward in the Arsenal way. I think AW is allowing him to go through this growing pain to be a better player as the season progresses. Maybe same can be said for Djourou and Denilson with both just getting back into side after injury layoffs. They are bound to make mistakes. AW would rather they be in less important matches (which this is not) but with injuries his hand is forced a bit. Plus I think we see a number of players return for Sundays match from injury most notably Cesc.

I think if asked before hand for this result and the errors we would have gladly taken it laughing. I think AW is pleasantly surprised with the result and especially the new dimension to our attack on display, the headed ball. without Chams we did not really have that type headed goal in our pocket (even with Bendtner in the side) And Squils and Chams jumping together for CB to “get the nod” was a much stronger crossed ball attack than we have been used to for … donkeys years!

I think a frank assessment from the Serbs would find them saying we were to quick, technically strong and know the better side won going away at the post.

the only person that should start in goals on sunday is without a doubt fabianski. when we need almunia he doent show up, fabianski was under the biggest pressure ever last night and played very well and made some really good saves, and after that penalty save you could see it on his face that his self belief went from 0 to 100 so he has just played an important game and came through very well and will be confident were as almunia will be the total opposite as he has just made a big mistake and it lost us the game so he has no confidence. yes i know fabianski made a mistake against spurs but it didnt cost us the game so thats why fabianski has to start. if he can continue to play that good he will no longer be called flapianski but fanicanstay. come on arsenal!

Almunia’s injury is for real. If you watch the penaly save again just after you can see him come up smarting from his right arm.

Concerning Flappy, confidence is only half the battle. He still looks and acts like Elmer Fudd in goal. This performance will only set us up for disappointment later and confirm our worst fears… he gets a run in the side and makes a few stupid mistakes in key games and loses us the premiership.

Problem is these few good preformances will reconvince Wenger that he is right about Flap (wrong!), he will refuse to buy world class inh January, and we are stuck with him for the next few years and win nothing! Mark my words Gooners.

The more I watch ARSENAL the more i become convinced that the problems and the answers are with wenger. We are failing tactically. The team is kind of predictable.
there are no surprises in arsenal’s tactics and strategy. we need to out fox our opponents not just aim to outpass them.
Over the past two seasons chelsea has simply overppowered us physically and not even allowed our strikers sight of goal.
Watching Man City last weekend one could see that they had a viable game plan.
I believe we have the players. We have the motivation and desire to win…and a very clever manager…now what is needed is a clever plan to outgun chelsea
