Bendy says he will walk away from the Arsenal unless he gets more games. Theo Walcott reveals that his chum Gareth Bale is a fan of the Gunners. And Cesc says AW can lead us to glory.
Another day in the world of the Royal Arsenal as we prepare for the trip to Merseyside tomorrow where we face Everton at Goodison Park. A 2pm kick-off poses all sorts of problems for those who live a fair hike from the Gladwys Street environs.
My journey will start at 5.30am with a lift to Gatwick Airport to get the shuttle train to Victoria then across to Euston for the 9.15am rattler to Liverpool. Returning I’ll get a cab to Manchester airport and fly back to Gatters. And it is on the telly. Does make you question your state of mind sometimes I must admit. But if the rip-roaring Gunners prevail all will be well.
Going back to the points in the intro, here are the quotes to qualify my intro…
Bendy: “If the situation doesn’t change and I’m still on the bench at Arsenal, I’ll look for a transfer. That’s obvious. I feel I’ve done everything right in getting back to fitness.
“I feel better than before the injury and at that point I was in the starting 11 and close to fulfilling my potential. When I’m 100 per cent fit, I can’t accept sitting on the bench.
“I’m turning 23 soon and it’s important to my development and further career to play regularly. I’ll just say that I’m 100 per cent good enough for the starting 11 in Arsenal. If my manager feels differently that’s fair, and he’s the one choosing the team, but then I disagree.”
Theo: “We were room mates. We shared digs in Southampton and we actually signed the room somewhere where we were together. We wanted to make our mark! It’s probably gone now.
“I’ve played with him since under-11s at Southampton. With him being an Arsenal fan, it’s just a shame he didn’t come to us! We still get on really well. I watched both Inter games in the Champions League. I phoned him straight away, wanted to be the first to leave him a message. I couldn’t repeat what I said!
“I think everyone knows who Gareth Bale is now. We’ve got the qualifier against Wales as well. I haven’t been winding him up about that yet but I will after the Tottenham game!”
My view is that Bendy should knuckle down and earn his place in the side then he’ll get the move he wants in the summer. Says a lot about him that he shouts from the rooftops about the injustice of life on the bench when he has only just come back from injury.
