Members Blog – Should Wenger Rest Star Players?

wenger

By METEORA Look at what happened when Wenger gambled with Cesc on Champions League. It went wrong terribly. Now he is out for two or more weeks and he could miss the Man Utd trip.

Lots of our player has returned back from injuries. Robin Van Persie,Bendtner, Walcott and others. Still Vermaelen, Fabregas, Diaby, Eboue are sidelined due to injury. Should they be hurried for their return and have chronic level injuries or be rested. Also what about Wilshere ?? I just have a feeling he is being over used and might have a future like Owen. We definitely don’t want that, do we?

I have just words of inspiration for Chamakh. He has taken bruises, he has been battered, he has pain in his neck, his body aching with scratch marks and stiff muscles but still somehow manages to get a tough and rough goal as against Spuds and Aston Villa. Man with scarf has been superb. But for how long? He should not be overplayed else someday he is gonna come limping off the pitch.

So, what is the solution? Persie and Bendtner are back but out of form. Chamakh and Nasri are in terrific form but we couldn’t risk them. Midfielders and strikers are the one who are most vulnerable to injuries. I don’t mean that defence won’t get injured but front line is the area where we are more vulnerable. So, we have now four fit strikers. Chamakh, Persie, Bendtner and Vela. Only Chamakh is inform. We have Arshavin, Walcott, Nasri, Song, Wilshere, Rosicky and Denilson in midfield with Fabregas, Eboue and Diaby injured.

We have fixtures coming up Wigan(Carling Cup), Fulham, Partizan(Champions League), Man Utd, Stoke, Chelsea and Wigan in December.

The basic thing that we need to do now is keep our rated players fit for Man Utd and Chelsea clash while we should have at least a point to secure a position in knock out stage in champions league. Wenger surely will have a tough time deciding which player he should choose for these fixtures.

Play your strongest team, get the points/win in the bank, don’t disrupt the team by making unnecessary changes.

Only bring back injured players when they are fully fit. No player should return from serious injury untill he has played at least two full reserve team games, with no ill effects.

Rotate. Get RVP, Bendtner, and Diaby (if he is injury free) match fit. Rest Nasri, Arshavin, Chamak, Kozzer, wilshere. Play the likes of Rosicky, Walcott, Vela, Djourou, Eastmond, Gibbs. Thats your carling cup team right there.

It is imperative for Wenger to rotate the team and still field a balanced team. The goalkeeping position should not give him any headaches. Szcznesky, and Aluminia are both good enough for the game. Defensively, any two from Djourou, Squillaci, and Koscielny can do. I would prefer Djourou and Squillaci for stability but Squillaci has played almost every game since vERMALEAN GOT INJURED SO maybe it is time to rest him. But resting him is a big gamble because the Koscielny-Djourou partnership is not tested. Gibbs should start on the left back and Nordtveit on the right back. Eastmond can also play there.
The mid field is where the problems really are. Denilson should start together with Jack and maybe Nasri should join them. Song should be rested. Eastmond has been suspect in his last three outings. Playing together Jack and Denilson have not been impressive at all, yet Rosicky has played two full games in the last two matches and should be rested. I would love to rest Nasri as well but there will be no creativity in the team at all. Up front Theo, bendtner and Vela are due to play. However, unless the midfield clicks and creates they will also not produce anything noteworthy.
based on this my team would be
    Szcznesky
    Nordteveit Djourou Squillaci Gibbs
    Denilson Jack Nasri
    Walcot Bendtner Vela
    Bench:
Alumina Sagna Clichy Koscielny Rosicky Van Persie JET
tHAT MAKES IT 8 CHANGES from the weekend starting eleven.

Wenger should rest key players such as Chamakh, Nasri, Wilshere, Squillaci and Song.
Especially Squillaci and Chamakh as they have played a LOT of games this season.

The problem with rotation as JIN stated is that it disrupts any fluency, admittedly you’d expect our squad to be almost telepathic as Henry and co seemed to be, however we regularly witness players such as Djourou playing a blinder only to be left out of the next game much to most supporters surprise, then we get a smacking.

Seemingly the news is that Eboue is back from injury and Squillaci has a knock. So the defence should be made up of Eboue, Djourou, Koz, Gibbs
. The midfield should see Denilson, Jack and Nasri/JET. Up front Theo, Bendtner and Vela with Van Persie to get a run later on.

As arsene used to say ,players wont feel the tiredness if they keep on winning the matches….I dont think we have to worry about resting stars now…As far as i am concerned we have the problem of plenty…Robin and NikB should play tommorrow….Nasri,Arsahvin and chamakh should be rested….Walcott hasnt played for a while ….

If players need a rest, then let them ease up on the training.

If we are to win anything we need our best players playing in our strongest team.

@Berg: I also agree with JIN but problem we have is, player’s fatigue level will just increase playing/training day in and day out. One can see a vast difference in a game when certain players are fully match fit and when they are not. When a player is overstretched to do so then i m afraid neither result will be on our side nor injury status will be.
But again as indian gunner mentioned below “players wont feel the tiredness if they keep on winning the matches”.
Lets keep the faith in Wenger. He knows best.
