Is Bouldy set for No.2 job?

bouldy

by CARL ELDRIDGE There were tabloid tales that Sir Pat Rice was quitting the Royal Arsenal at the end of the season and they may be hogwash and indeed bunkum but it is worth exploring the possibility I suppose.

Arsenal man and boy, Rice is very much old school and maybe a new face in and around the first team would freshen things up. I am not privy to the inner workings of the training schedules etc but have, of course, seen Pat warm up the players before games but you can gain no insight from this formulaic practice.

Pezza Groves was on the radio yesterday suggesting that perhaps it was time for Steve Bould to replace Pat. To my mind it is a decent shout and, as the Ginger genius pointed out, who better to give our back four a bit more structure?

Of course, he is an Arsenal man – which counts a great deal for me - having been brought to the club with Lee Dixon from Stoke by George Graham and has for the past few years been working with the youth set-up and been getting rave reviews for his work. Food for thought.

Wigan at home tonight in the cup that has developed a value since we realised that we must add at least some silverware to the dusty cabinets at the Emirates and, without tempting fate, surely there has never been a better chance to progress to the semis.

AW is said to be drafting in players such as RVP, Bendy and Carlos Vela to give them a run and we must hope they have enough desire to prove their worth and put Roberto Martinez and his side to the sword. Bleedin’ hope so anyway. That’s if the game goes on what with all this white stuff falling from the sky…

    Carl,

Pat Rice was no mean defender and Steve Bould was brought up in the same way, coached by Don Howe I believe. Whilst Steve would add something to the defensive coaching would he not represent more of the same if given the number two spot?

With Squillaci injured and Szcezcny promised a start I hate to think what mix and match combination will form our defense tonight. One thing for sure whatever combination Wenger goes for they will not have played together as a unit before.

We must just hope that whichever strikers play they manage to score more goals than our cobbled together defense concede.

    C’mon The Gunners!!!!

ps. Aaron Ramsey played the final thirty minutes for Nottingham Forest in last night’s defeat by Leicester City. The boy is on the come-back trail!!

CARL,pat rice is an Arsenal legend,he has been involved with the club for over forty years,he was an excellant no nonsense defender,i dont think it really matters who is number two at Arsenal as the number one does everything his own way regardless, thats the problem at the club, sad but true, you are right though and i agree with you entirely that we could be doing with an out and out defensive coach, this club should be using the defensive talents off guys like, adams, dixon,o leary, winterburn, big martin, guys who are Arsenal till they die, im sure if one or two of these guys were coming in a few days a week there would be a huge improvement on our defense which has been pretty average at best for a few years now,and it would not cost a fortune either,it would be money well spent and a huge boost to the young players to have legends working with them.

One must remember that first class players do not necessarily make first class coaches. In addition to obtaining their coaching quals, they must be good communicators, visionaries and have the confidence of the players under them. THEN, they will be of greater value than their charges.
