Ipswich in the semi-finals of the Carling Cup then. The tie presents itself as a massive opportunity to get to the final and lift some silverware for the first time in yonks. Five yonks to be precise.
Of course, we have history with the Tractor Boys. The swines ruined my first FA Cup final watching the rip-roaring Yellows (as they were that day) when they, against all the odds, beat us 1-0 in the 1978 final.
And there is another incentive to triumph. They are managed by a certain Roy Keane and there is never an excuse needed to let him have it proper.
An Arsenal-West Ham final would be a decent affair with plenty of passion but I shouldn’t count chickens given our turbulent form this season. Even if we win the cup and end the trophy drought those twots who have thrown the lack of success will give it the old ‘it’s only the Carling Cup’. And they have a point. We have bigger fish to fry and, as we speak and with my tongue caressing the inside of my cheek, we are still on for the QUAD.
AW has surprised a few folk with his declaration that he won’t be spending any money in the January transfer window…that does leave the Emirates door ajar for loan moves though. Could Shay Given be a given?
Right I am off to build a snowman effigy of Dennis Bergkamp and then pray at his feet all day…
