Super Samir Nasri came to our rescue yesterday and whatever our critics say about dodgy defending the league table shows us top of the pile.
Yes, the manner of our 2-1 victory over a resolute Fulham was hardly convincing but how many games over the years have we dominated and drawn or lost? It is, in a perverse way, refreshing to ‘nick’ a win although it would be easier on the nerves had we coasted it 7-0.
I thought Tom Rosciky had a below par game yesterday and another small point is Fabianki’s decision making on kicking. He must work on that – we always used to feed either full-back from those sorts of positons.
AW has had his say on the win and Nasri’s delightful double – his 10th and 11th goals of the campaign: “It was a combination of touch, intelligence, special talent and calmness as well. He needed to be patient to finish on both occasions and he did that very well.
“I’m happy because he had a game that was, at the start, only based on coming to the ball. But now he has more variation in his game — turns, runs in behind without the ball, and as well coming to the ball and taking it to his feet. So his game is improving and he is, of course, more efficient.
“It’s true we looked vulnerable in the air, but I expected to suffer under corners and we held on. I believe we are good enough to go on and win the league but it will be down to consistency. I know we have the desire and spirit to fight for it.”
But put simply we did enough to win – take that Hughes you whining git. Now we must now prepare for Wednesday’s crucial CL game at home to Partisan Belgrade. Then there is the small matter of United away next Monday…
