Arsenal fans will be delighted to hear the news youngster Kieran Gibbs is ready to return to first team training and could soon be making his comeback in the side.
The left-back is one the Gunner’s brightest prospects having made his full England debut this season but he has had some bad luck with injuries this season.
This spell on the sidelines bean at the beginning of December after he injured his ankle against Partizan Belgrade in the Champions League. But Arsene Wenger has told Arsenal TV Online that the England start should be fit and ready to take his place in the squad for the FA Cup tie against Leeds at the weekend.
What we need now is for Gibbs to have a good run of fitness and then hopefully he can start pushing Gael Clichy for his place.
It was proved how short we are in the left full back position without Gibbs when Wenger rested Clichy and decided to play Eboue there against Wigan. It turned out to be a disaster which no Arsernal fan wants to see again, so Kibbs return is a huge boost for everyone at the club.
With a little bit of luck on the injury front Gibbs can make the spot his own and force Clichy out of the team. The Frenchman’s job is not an easy one as he has at times been hung out to dry without any help from Arshavin but he can sometimes switch of at the vital moment.
Gibbs has had his problems defensively in the past but this season when he has been fit he has looked very solid and still gives us a good attacking dimension going forward.
Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has reported no new injury news ahead of the crunch Premier League showdown with Manchester City. He said: “Apart from a few bruises we are alright from Birmingham,” said Wenger.
“But Kieran Gibbs is very close. He could be in full training again tomorrow and there is a little chance he is available for Saturday.”
That will leave just Manuel Almunia (ankle), Abou Diaby(calf) and Thomas Vermaelen (Achilles) on the injury list. The Belgian is penciled in for the end of the month while the other two “are still two or three weeks away”.
