The good news is that Samir Nasri wants to stay at Arsenal and not head off to Barca. The bad news is that United have won the Premier League. Well, that’s what the world and his wife are saying this morning after the ‘perfect storm’ of results for them last night. Not only did their title rivals drop points but their arch enemy, Woy Hodgson’s Liverpool, slumped to an embarrassing defeat.
Bollocks to that. We’re still very much in with a shout. The text I got from a pal who supports United read: “Carlsberg don’t do Wednesdays…but if they did…” summed it up. But there are more twists and turns to come.
To matters Nasri’s and his father, Hamid, has told of talks between his son’s representative Jean-Pierre Bernes and Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis – these are said to be ongoing and Nasri wants to stay with us.
“He is only 23 years old and still has much room for improvement,” said Hamid Nasri. “I am convinced that he can go even higher. I think that yes, this will be with Arsenal.”It is a club that is close to his heart, that knew how to bring him to the level where he is. I think that Arsenal remains his priority.”
Nice one.
Back to United. Yes they are four points ahead and a game in hand, but we must stick to our football and see where it gets us. Football certainly isn’t something that City – backed by a terrible away support of about 1,000 (big club my arse) – produced last night in the 0-0 draw at the Emirates in which they didn’t have a shot on goal.
From a Mancini perspective he has come to us and gone away with a point. Job done. Yet surely he has an obligation to at least try to play the game especially when they have spent around 600billion smackers on players? Looking at the bigger picture we have taken four points from six from a so-called rival.
Coming out of the ground there were mutterings of discontent from the fans frustrated by the fact that we failed to break down the coach park – let alone the parked bus – that was Mancini’s side. But we were more than a tad unlucky with four or five serious chances and one of those goes in I think we win comfortably. So Lady Luck wasn’t on our side last night. It will be again.
One player I would start with and play for the 90 minutes is AA23. It will give him game time and he may well lose some of the beef he has acquired around his arse. Get you head down and work Andrey – oh, and please stop the back heels, eh? He is quality don’t get me wrong but that makes it even more of a sin and waste of talent when he goes through the motions.
Right I am off to watch Sky plus and count the empty seats in the away section at Wolves as the Pensioners lost again (big club my arse) and then watch the mighty Everton triumph against the swamp-dwelling forces of evil who haven’t troubled the top-flight crown for, ahem, FIFTY years (big club my arse).
