Could Arsenal be wrapping up a deal for Gary Cahill? The Bolton and England centre back has been constantly linked with The Arsenal for a while now, but following the recent arrival of David Wheater at The Reebok, it’s been a deal that we haven’t really taken seriously until now.
I’m not one that believes everything I read in the paper – if I did, I would be complaining as to why our squad doesn’t consist of 120 players by the end of January! But I believe this particular deal is a logical one, allowing me to consider the deal.
As you’ll know, Arsene Wenger has come out and said that we will try to bring in a new centre back, following the latest injury setback of Thomas Vermaelen.
I’m not guaranteeing Cahill will be with us by the end of the month. But hypothetically, if he did join us, Owen Coyle would have to replace him – which he has, in the form of David Wheater. Interesting thought isn’t it?
In response to Cahill leaving The Reebok, Coyle has been quoted saying that “the best time to move is in the summer, so he has time to bed in with his new team-mates and surroundings”. That maybe true, and yes, it does suggest that the Bolton manager is reluctant to sell.
But let’s not forget he’s just signed Wheater in a January transfer window! And just because he doesn’t think it’s the best idea, it doesn’t mean that the deal is impossible – as he’s just shown by bringing in the 23 year old from ‘Boro.
