The great Tony Adams has spoken of his desire to one day return to Arsenal in a coaching capacity.
The former Gunners captain is currently in charge of Azerbaijani club Gabala FC, and is excited about the opportunity on his hands to build a club almost from scratch.
But Adams has not ruled out a return to the club where he spent his entire career as a player, saying he believes them to be the best club in the world.
“I’d love to come back to Arsenal,” he said. “It’s the best club in the world, why wouldn’t I want to work here? And if I can contribute in any level then I will. But I have an interesting project on hand, I’ve got a super boss, a super owner, a club [Gabala] that totally supports me and want me to build a team and a stadium and I’ve not done that yet.
“So I need to do that. Even if the great Arsenal come knocking I don’t think I’m going come over just yet. But down the line, who knows?”
On the current Arsenal side, Adams believes this season could be their best chance of success, and hopes they can finally win that elusive piece of silverware that they have been missing since 2005.
“The current Arsenal side is in a fantastic position, they need to go over the line, they are starting to believe but this is a critical period in the footballing calendar. From now on they need to step up, they got themselves in such a great position. Certainly if I’ve been Club captain now I would say, ‘We start now, the hard work starts right now. This is where we need to go if we want to achieve great things’.
“They’ve got the talent to be champions. I’ve played in four Championship-winning teams and this is as a talented squad as that I’ve played in. They need to go over the line and put a trophy on the sideboard, anything, just put one on the sideboards, learn how to win, learn how to be competitive, how to go over the line.”
