Chesney: We’ll turn over Tractor Boys

linogal
by CARL ELDRIDGE Right, this is a disclaimer before anyone thinks of sacking me as a correspondent for the site – I publish this image merely to highlight just how tough it is for women to be taken in football. The snap is doing the rounds on the net and comes on the back of the sexist remarks from Andy Gray and Richard Keys about lineswoman Sian Massey. For the record, I don’t share their views.

Ok, ok, I did chortle my socks off when I saw it on an email just now but, hey, it’s funny. No more need be said on the subject. From me at least. Why, I value my £300,000-a-year salary here too much to talk myself out of such a lucrative position…which, it would seem. is what the Sky dimwits have done.

And so to the real news regarding the Carling Carling Cup semi-final second leg at home to Ipswich Town tonight where we look to overturn a 1-0 defecit. I have no doubt that will rotate rotate his starting line-up. We are told that Kieran Gibbs, Emmanuel Eboue, Denilson, Andrey Arshavin, Nicklas Bendtner and Marouane Chamakh are likely to feature while some reports suggest, worryingly for me, there could yet be a debut for young Spanish centre-back Ignasi Miquel.

Thos who are missing include Tomas Rosicky (virus), Abou Diaby (calf) and Sebastien Squillaci (hamstring) but they could return for Sunday’s FA Cup fourth-round clash with Huddersfield but Lukasz Fabianski (shoulder) and Manuel Almunia (ankle) remain out.

The Pole in the goal has had his say ahead of tonight’s game. He said ‘We have a team from the Championship coming to the Emirates and they probably won’t fancy it too much, but we fancy our chances and are confident we will go through. We are Arsenal and believe we can beat anybody.’

Chesney added: ‘They have a one-goal advantage which they will try to defend, but as soon as we score the first goal, it will be downhill for them. We just have to break them down and score as many goals as we can. We are confident we can turn this around.’

I hope to Dennis (God) he is right…

I think it would make sense to start with the strongest possible eleven tonight, surely reaching the final of the Carling Cup is of the most immediate concern. The players who took part in the training run against Wigan shouldn’t be too fatigued.

A not too onerous home tie against Huddersfield in the FA Cup on Sunday shouldn’t tax the strength of the squad too much so there really isn’t a lot of need for rotation.

    Keep a winning side together!

    C’mon The Gunners!!!!

Tonight is huge, anything less than a victory and the last five years have been for nothing,we need this trophy to move on as a force, chelsea and united are more than happy too win this cup going by the way they celebrate, time for a little revenge, onwards and upwards.

Ridiculous to rotate for this match. Play the same team that strolled against Wigan. Gat the goals and then sub the players who need a rest. Otherwise we’ll be making subs in the 2nd half who’ll then be under enormous pressure to turn the game.
