Que sera sera we’re going to wemberley – Arsenal 3 Ipswich 0

carlingcup

The semi-final of the League Cup with a one goal deficit should have presented few problems for the Gunners given the strength of the team fielded by Arsene Wenger. Robin van Persie and Fabregas with Arshavin, Bendnter and Wilshere signalled the importance with which Arsene  held this tie. Ipswich signalled  their intent with an audacious shot at Szczesny straight from the kick off. Ipswich defended with tenacity and pressurised Arsenal midfield. Arsenal to their credit showed desire and Ipswich were under siege for 49 minutes and Arsenal created a myriad of chances in the first half.

Robin van Persie had two golden chances, the first on the volley after a cross into the box from Sagna, and later a chance of a header which hit the crossbar. Cesc Fabregas had a couple of good attempts, one a shot across goal which Fulop did well to save on the ground, another marvellous reflex left foot shot after a deft chip from Jack Wilshere and a sublime first touch from our captain.

Sagna left the field after a clash of heads with our keeper, and was replaced by Emmanuel Eboue Referee Halsey played almost five minutes of overtime as the half ended. Arshavin’s consistency and a possible Fabregas dive were the main talking points.

Arsenal 0 Ipswich 0 (0-1) agg

The second half started with more passion from Ipswich and they had the earlier of the opportunities. Arsenal responded well and surged forward but yet again were thwarted by a well organised tractor boy back four. There then followed a sustained period of Arsenal pressure with several corners, yet still Ipswich held firm. Delaney was imperious in defence and deserved to still ahead. When Wilshere played a long ball to Niklas Bendtner who played the ball behind him and turned the Ipswich defender inside out and the Danish striker (much maligned by me) produced a rare moment of utmost class and with his right foot curled a shot inside Fulop’s far post.

Arsenal 1 Ipswich 1 Bendtner 60’ (1-1) agg

Within three minutes Ipswich were behind as from a corner Koscielny powered a header into the net from six yards out. He wheeled away and his goal celebration anticipated what appeared to be an impending baby on the way.

Arsenal 2 Ipswich 0 Koscielny 63’ (2-1)agg

Now the home support were in fine voice as previously loud East Anglian chants were extinguished. Arsenal now began to stroke the ball around with more confidence, but a low shot saved by Szczesny at hi9s near post was a clear reminder that celebrations of a final place would be premature.  It was abreak away of pure precision which saw Fabregas pick up possession following  a fifty challenge by Denilson, our skipper  then released Arshavin who made a spirited run down the left flank, with the Russian finally sliding a ball back into Fab’s path who powered the ball low under Fulop’s body to make it three nil to the Gunners.

Arsenal 3 Ipswich 0 Fabregas 76’ (3-1)agg

Arsene Wenger added insult to injury by an extraordinary double substitution after 84 minutes which saw Nasri and Walcott replace Arshavin and Robin van Persie. The crowd were warm in their appreciation of the efforts of the team in Red and White. The game ended with a predictable festival feel. Job well done you Gunners. Who can look forward to Wembley.

Final Arsenal 3 Ipswich 0

Arsenal win 3-1 on aggregate and now can look forward to a chance of winning some silverware at Wembley on Sunday 27th of February.

Teams Arsenal: Szczesny Sagna (Eboue) Koscielny Djourhou Clichy Denilson Wilshere Fabregas Arshavin van Persie Bendtner

I cannot work out Arshavin at the moment, he has lost his confidence and touch. but that final run for the final goal was pure class, so let that be the resurgence as I have always rated him.
It makes my berating of Bendtner and Arshavin look pretty silly, but I take my hat off to the guys…
    JOB WELL DONE!

For all the haters, Arshavin set up one, made the corner with his hard work for the other, Bendtner showed his class with a fantastic take for the first and Denilson played a part in the third with the interception and quick pass to el capitan. Roll on Welmbley, any Arsene haters should forego their tickets because they don’t really care, so sort me out!

We seriously have to stop getting on Arshavin’s back and start showing him some love. He was putting in an effort and set up two of our three goals. Let’s not just give him a break–but also get behind him.

    Said with passion my friend!
I have not hated these players, merely fairly in my opinion pointed out their deficiencies.
Bendtner is described as potenially “World Class” by Arsene Wenger, well if his support of Song is anything to go by we will need to wait another three seasons.
Arshavin on the other hand is pure class, and I have only alleged laziness, which I have to say that you may agree with.
Denilson on the other hand is the worst excuse for a Brazilian midfielder I have ever seen. Edu was class, Gilberto was imperious, Denilson I am afraid is just ordinary.
Wellington on the other hand is pure class, perhaps it will be third time lucky with respect to Arsenal Brazilians?

Bendtner’s goal was VERY VERY nice. The touch to caress it out of the air and bring it down in stride, the left foot back flick cut to the right to set himself up for the shot, and then stroking it into the far post out of the keeper’s reach. Classy goal that I could watch over and over again. I’ve criticized him in the past but that was EXTREMELY well done.
For me, Arshavin still needs to show and do more. He was more active and influential in this game compared to some others recently but he’s still seems like he’s a step slow and/or a bit out of sync. Even on the setup pass for Cesc’s goal he seemed a little hesitant as if he’s lost confidence.
Overall it was a good performance from the team though. RvP looks like he has loads more goals to come. It would have been nice if he converted the cross Bendtner provided him as that would have been almost identical to what they conjured up over the weekend.
Well done GUNNERS. Go on RED ARMY!!!!

I dont hate arshavin but he has lost it and wont be getting it back… One assist was a corner and and the other a simple pass to fabregas who should be given credit for starting the move and having the desire to get beyond arshavin to finish it. Before that arshavin was woeful like he has been all season and is a luxury player who when plays slows down our quick attack as he is so casual on the ball and gets knocked off it far to easy

well we should be getting behind all of the arsenal players simply because they are arsenal players. Constructive criticism away from the match day is fine but it is completely unhelpful to get on the player’s back by shouting at him/ booing him etc. When a player doesn’t play well they know it and they feel bad.

He got a very good goal against Wigan but that didn’t seem to do him any good. Its confusing and strange to see such a quality player go from being silky smooth to not being able to play a five yard pass!

Don’t forget that Bendtner is only 23 and despite the age of the rest of the arsenal team that is still pretty young and some players develop later than others. Also he doesn’t do much but he does seem to score goals. 6 goals in 7 carling cup matches this season which is the only competition he’s a regular in.

oh who am I kidding? He’s not very good and anyone could score goals playing with those players. And he needs to stop chewing while playing. Surely thats quite dangerous. Sell him while he’s young and worth something and get someone who can score consistently and doesn’t have an ego bigger than my …

As you can probably tell, I haven’t quite made up my mind on bendtner. Would probably be more willing to give him a chance if he didn’t come across as such an arrogant tit.

haha completely agree. Some games he drives me nuts, yet other games like the one against leeds i think ‘yeah hes going to be great.’

FTK i agree with you on denilson, the sooner we get rid of this joke the better, and news on how frimpongs injury is coming along?

Arshavin needs to pull his finger out, his confidence for someone so good is shocking. Twice he gave the ball away in dangerous positions, and could not seem to do anything right (besides the assist), he has looked ordinary against championship RB’s who he should be destroying!

Great result for the boys, come on 4 trophies! and bloody hell arsene hurry up and sign a CB will you, my heart is in my mouth everytime i see djourou or kozza throwing their bodies around, or talking with the physio (what a good partnership they have!)

What an unbelievably poor atmosphere last night. 3-nil up. On our way to Wembley and the crowd is dead. Everyone looking at me like I’m some kind of mong because I’m having a one man sing song. The Bowl with no soul. RIP The Arsenal Stadium.

Have we at last found our corner taker? Arshavin’s dream of a corner for Koscielny’s goal was sublime. It was targeted at the point where the ‘keeper had to come out for it, but just too far away for him to reach. The pace was perfect and allowed our centre back the luxury of not having to try to put too much power into his header. Absolutely first class!

Too many corners have been wasted by silly short ones, usually involving Fabregas and van Persie, both of whom should be in the box where they could actually score, also too many hit the first defender and are cleared.

I’ve been very critical of Arshavin recently and apart from the corner, the excellent run and pass to Fabregas, after taking a peach of a pass from Denilson, did little else to make me change my opinion of him.

Bendtner’s first touch throughout the game was awful, as usual, even the one leading to his goal looked clumsy and a bit lucky.

Criticisms aside, a great all-round performance, especially from Jack Wilshere, it’s just great to be in another Wembley final.
