Samir Nasri has agreed a lucrative five-year deal with the Arsenal, according to a report in this morning’s Sun. The paper says the French ace has penned the new contract on the eve of the Carling Cup final showdown with Brum at Wembley tomorrow.
>Nasri has been a star for us this season and has grabbed 14 goals in 33 games as well as delivering some dazzling displays and plenty of assists. He has helped us fight the fight on four fronts and we enter a crucial period in our quest for glory with him just returning from being sidelined with injury.
According to paper, he has been rewarded with a whopping £100,000 a week deal that will keep him at the club until 2016. Nasri joined us from French side Marseille for a fee of £12.5 million back in 2008.
Meanwhile. AW has been singing the praises of Jack Wilshere – who will be the chief conduit in the absence of Cesc – ahead of the final. He said: “He’s had very good games. His confidence has grown, his responsibility has grown, certainly. Our game goes naturally through Fabregas. When he’s not there, it’ll go more through Wilshere. The way of the game is simple: it goes always through the team’s strong points. So that the game goes through Wilshere is a good thing for him because it means the players around him have confidence in him. He will enjoy this game.”
And AW adds that winning the Carling Cup can give us the belief to win even more silverware this season. “It can help us to give us confidence in the other trophies we are going for, and give a bigger lift to the confidence levels we have now. We want to have possession of the ball, be faithful to our game, and give everything to win it.
“Because people are so much after us about trophies, we want to win one. But mainly because to win it would give us a lift. There is a weight on the team. We have to deliver trophies because we have not won any.
“I’m not the only one who’s important on that. The players have feelings: they get that from everybody. They say: ‘Ok, we want to win a trophy to show you we can win one.’ But I believe to win would give us a lift for the rest of the season. We have a good bond, a good confidence level and we’re highly determined to do well on all fronts.
“What will be vital to our success is our ability to focus on the next game: the final in the Carling Cup. We will give everything to be successful. We have a good feeling because we are on a very strong run.”
Right, where’s my rosette and bobble hat – I am off to camp on Wembley Way to make dure I don’t miss a minute of the build-up…
