It's a good week to bury bad news, Arsene

Arsenal seem to have got their timing all wrong this week. In the wake of the exit from three cup comps, it is revealed that season ticket prices will rise around five per cent, AW is getting a significant pay rise as is Samir Nasri with a new deal. I don’t necessarily disagree with any of this (OK, the price hike for tickets could be a little less thatn what is being quoted), but surely the bods who manage our PR could have staggered the revelations and managed their release for a more upbeat period? Bury bad news etc…
John Cross at the Mirror tells us this morning: “Seven thousand club-level supporters at the Emirates, who already pay some of the most expensive prices in the Premier League, have been told there will be a 6.5 per cent increase for next season.
It is now feared that the club will impose an across-the-board rise when the rest of the ticket prices are announced in April and May. Supporters’ groups have criticised the club’s decision to take such a step in tough economic times.”
I hate to say it but for a two-bob, top-flight title-dodging pile of shite, Tee Hee FC do manage their PR very well. An example is international weeks when domestic football news is thin on the ground because the players are away. They manage this very well for their cause and will have granted journos interviews to be held and placed just when there is an abundance of space in the sports sections. It leads to a decent show and effectively free advertising for the alleged tax dodger’s outfit. Don’t get me wrong Arsenal do it too but it seems to me, to a lesser degree. Or am I being paranoid after such disappointments on the pitch of late? Probably.
Elsewhere this morning, the Mail says NB52 will turn down Blackburn’s £15m bid to sign him this summer, with the Dane preferring a switch to Germany. Borussia Dortmund and Hamburg are possible options.
And the Telegraph tells us that Thomas Vermaelen still uncertain of return after a series of injury setbacks. Hehas revealed that he suffered six relapses with his Achilles injury and admitted that he still does not know when he will return to full fitness.
Just gets better, doesn’t it?
