Clichy set for showdown with Wenger over new deal

gael2

by CARL ELDRIDGE Gael Clichy is set for ‘make-or-break’ contract talks with the Arsenal next month, reports this morning’s Daily Mail. The paper says the France defender is stalling on a new deal and may not stay with us. The claim is that we have already ‘pinpointed Celtic left-back Emilio Izaguirre’ as a potential replacement.

I don’t think it would be the end of the world with Gibbo waiting in the wings yet, as we know only too well, you can’t have enough good players in the ranks. The Mail adds that Clichy is keen to wait until the summer before having new talks over a new deal but that AW wants the matter sorted sooner rather than later. Clichy’s contract expires at the end of next season and he could leave for nothing.

Meanwhile, Manu Almunia has been speaking about his opportunity in goal for the Arsenal. Speaking to the Mirror, he said: ”I have had some very bad moments this season but now I am content because I am playing again. I am a professional and I would never leave a club or a project unless it was the decision of the manager. I will always defend my club. I am an Arsenal player and that’s where I want to succeed.

“The injuries to Fabianski and Szczesny have given me a chance in the position again. I am sorry for my team-mates and I’m hoping they make a quick recovery, but now is my moment at Arsenal. It’s an important time but I will try to enjoy it and do my best for the team.”

And the Spaniard says despite reports to the contrary he does get on with Mad Jens. He added: “I don’t have problems with Lehmann. It’s certain that we’ve had differences in the past but after he left Arsenal we spoke and everything is clear now.

“I have a good relationship with him and there is respect between us. I don’t believe it should generate controversy for the rest of the team. Lehmann has arrived to help us and that is positive for our work this season. For me, Jens Lehmann was one of the best keepers in the world and his experience could be helpful.

“To fail in the Carling Cup, FA Cup and Champions League was a hard blow for us, but the title is possible and this is our challenge. It’s been difficult with injuries and confidence. We need Cesc Fabregas because he’s such an important player for us and I’m hoping he’ll be back from injury as quickly as possible.” So are we, pal…

“I have had some very bad moments this season…” The only problem is that you can say it in every season mate. Why couldn’t you redeem yourself like Fabianski? For me you have been the worst goalkeeper in Arsenal’s history so far. Though Clichy had some bad period I don’t want him to go, as Gibbs showed some bad potential too. I think all that is down to an extremely poor defensive training not the players’ fault. I would rather fire Pat Shite the fucking yes man. Emilio Izaguirre? Who the hell is that? I don’t want a new Squilacci.

Pat Rice deserves respect as a player, but as a number 2 in management he’s a disaster.

“Clichy, who is a target for Barcelona…” By the way question for all those who want Clichy out. This Barcelona sentence sums it up all. How come that all our players start well (Clichy, Arshavin, Chamakh) and they then go down and regress (though Clichy’s nightmare period ended in the first part of this season)? Can anybody see what I mean? It’s down to fucking poor training and psychology. That the total collective lack of mental strength.

unless you have some kind of work experience going on at london colney how can you possibly make a judgement on what pat rice does and doesnt do? It’s ridiculous. the players, fair enough, we see what they do every week, but the coach? give me a break and stop just repeating what you heard someone else say because you think it sounds clever.

And you? How on earth do you know that I’m wrong? How on earth do you explain that our defense is so poor (it’s not only our players, who should take the blame; why don’t they analyze the mistakes; I hardly see any progress when they play Squilacci and Koscielny together; if they can play decent with Djourou they should play decent together) and also our players are so poorly motivated? The blame is partly on Wenger, partly on Rice. Your comment is dumb. I guess you’re an AKB.

And if they analyzed the fault of this pairing they are incompetent, as they are still terrible together. By the way I am amazed that you don’t see the obvious. It’s not only the majority of fans who see these, but pundits/experts. We all must be idiots. Sorry Mr Einstein.

Pat Rice isn’t exactly helping the situation in my opinion.

Seems the extremists are back pushing the negative button again. :-) As I said last time the rats are coming back 2-3 days later after the actual trouble. No thoughts, no comments, the only one was that commented was illogical. Try to buy brains AKB extremists. :D

Not convinced Gibbs is good enough so AW best be careful as once again he could buy someone and find he has no depth to a position if it goes wrong..

Difficult to tell, as he’s too young. He has looked pretty bad lately, still I would give him a chance. I would only sell those, who are hopeless. We can’t sell everyone, who has a bad spell. Now it’s more important to care about our chance to somehow win the PL. We are lucky to have this break after all these failures and some players might come back to strengthen our team (Cesc and Song). Let’s hope Squilacci and Kozza start playing better together. Come on you gooners.

gibbs is good, and with a good run of games he will show why he will be the future england LB. unfortunently he is more injury prone than RVP so i hope the injury gremlins leave him alone. We can always bring back traore aswel. Silvestre anyone?

“Silvestre anyone?” I have not met anyone, who thinks his departure was a loss. Personally I think he’s not good enough. I would rather keep Squilacci, if they can sort him out with Koscielny (and they start playing acceptable football together).

Despite your multiple deranged quotes you have still done nothing other than guess that Pat Rice is the problem.
