Arsenal Won’t Spend Heavily

wenger

Arsene Wenger has maintained Arsenal do not need an influx of big-money signings this summer.

Although the Gunners extended their unbeaten run to 16 Barclays Premier League games following a pulsating 3-3 draw at north London neighbours Tottenham, they have won only three of the last nine, causing a slip down to third place on goal difference behind Chelsea, trailing leaders Manchester United by six points.

Wenger has again been forced to defend the make-up of his young team, but although the Arsenal manager is reported to have £40 million available should he wish to improve the squad this summer, he said: “I feel there is always a need to improve the team, but if you look at our season you cannot come to the conclusion we need a massive change. That would be completely stupid.”

He added: “We live in a world where when you are the second best by a little everybody says you are rubbish. That is the modern world, but it is not the reality. We are there, but because we have not won trophies people destroy us completely.

“What is good in our world is that everybody is bankrupt, but the guy who doesn’t spend is an idiot.”

Arsenal, who moved to the Emirates Stadium in 2006, may not currently have the financial muscle of the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City, both bankrolled by wealthy owners, but Wenger’s men have remained competitive on the pitch as they look to qualify again for the Champions League.

“We decided to develop our own players because we can’t buy players like Ronaldo, who cost £85 million,” Wenger said. “The way to fight against these teams is to build our own team with our philosophy and then try to make them.”

The Gunners head to Bolton on Sunday afternoon, by which time they could have fallen further behind both United and Chelsea.

Wenger, though, is convinced if his men can now win each of their remaining fixtures – which include a showdown with United at Emirates Stadium on May 1 – then that will be enough for a first title since the ‘Invincibles’ season of 2003/2004.

“In our plan, we have to beat Manchester United,” he said. “But not even for sure because they can drop points as well. However, you would consider that is a certainty and that is where we can show it – but let’s win the next game and that is when we go to Bolton.”

That forty million has to fund the wages of any purchases as well as the transfer fee.

Wenger is right, we don’t need a massive change in the squad, A ‘keeper and a central defender will do, although the likes of Bendtner, Rosicky, Diaby and Eboue could be dispensed with.

Arshavin, who admits that he is overweight and struggling with his fitness, could be added to that list.

Arsenal do not need an influx of big-money signings this summer if 4th place is all we are aiming for.

I just don’t get the nutty professor. He’s stating we have punched above our weight then says no need to buy big. Surely if we are overachieving we should buy to raise the expectation levels. I hate his ducking and diving and contradictions. Really suprised he said this (not buying big) before our season ticket money had been banked. He usually says super quality then goes back on it.

Coming third is a trophy, remmeber or fourth or fifth if we happen to finish down there. It will finish like it hae finished fore years a 1,2 Manure chelsea and it is fast becoming as tedious as the scottish Pl.Remember how all were excited about Man City finishing i the top two this season and now it has gone blland as always. If WENGER THINK THAT HIS TIPPY TAPPY FOOTBALL WILL EVENTUALLY COME GOOD HE IS NOTHING SHORT OF A DELUSIONAL IDIOT.

Well if its £40 million, and I have no idea where this number comes from or whether its accurate, does this include moey from players being sold or not?

I suspect that the club don’t know how much will be available to spend on new players until they get some idea of how much money they will get for players leaving. You never know, Barca might come in with a £40 million bid for the one and only, super fantastic, utterly unplayable, superstar and inspiration that is nicklas bendtner. Then we can get a really good replacement. Alternatively he may go to stoke for a tenner and we can get Heskey and make a profit.

In all seriousness though, the wages of the players who should leave the club in the summer should cover the cost of the wages of the players coming in and the transfer money will contribute also. A net spend of about £20 million with the player JIN mentions being sold could transform our team but frankly i doubt it will happen with Wenger in charge.

Our second string is not good enough

Bendtner – Thinks he’s god, but is just a good player that is played out of position and never given a long run. I believe he will be a decent player BUT at another club.

Eboue – Going forward he is pretty good but he is a terrible defender and as that is the reason for him in the team must go.

Almunia – Too many errors not in big matches but in the lesser games like against Birmingham where he just seems to be prone to making an error at random and costs us points

Denilson – An average, slow, defensively poor player who can pass ok.

Diaby – The most annoying as he is clearly very talented but lacks any passion or drive to work for the team. talent without the work is useless and a waste (also seems to like playing football at a snails pace so ruins the teams natural rythem

Arshavin – Very good player with ZERO work rate and in his own words is over weight and lazy.

Squillaci and Rosicky – Both work very hard and really care but the ability is just not quite good enough (shame for rocky as before the injury trouble was very good, I hope I’m wrong and he regains his form)

My choice is all the above out, promote Bartley, Lansbury, Miyaichi (if poss) Coquelin and Frimpong. They all work hard and will want to prove themselves.

Finally Bring in (again if poss) Hazard, Chamberlain and a big signing like Aguero or if not get Wickham. tall strong quick two footed hard working and technically very good

    The man is pathetic…

I want us to draw or lose tomorrow to Bolton…….as we aren’t winning the PL this season….fact. This is the only way Wenger is going to realise that he needs to buy quality players and get shut of the pile of crap that he currently has.

Wenger is now really frustrating the hell out of the fans, and he wants us now to get behind the team, where do you think we’ve been all season……enough is enough your stubbornness has cost us trophies and you still going on about how Arsenal have fought beyond the expectation of everybody….please don’t make me laugh MR Wenger. Fans no longer want to see Bentner, Eboue, Denilson, Diaby, Scallachi, Almunia, Fabianski, Rosicky, Chamakh, Vela, Troure, Easmond, Mannone, It time for you to put a proper team together for next season if you cannot then get out.

What planet are some of these self-styled supporters living on???
The Arsenal are third at the moment with an obvious problem with teams that believe “they don’t like it up ‘em”. No amount of coaching can drill out the panic button with some players! Two defenders going for the same ball and one ends up with a dislocated shoulder. One is French and the other is Swiss. Any self respecting defender will say “my ball”. Sagna is a good defender, so why did he panic?

Analyse the games you “muppets”, twisting and turning as the tabloids dictate!

    Pathetic!!!

he is delusional if he doesnt get rid of denilson (god i hope he does but he probably won’t because for some reason he seems to take a shinning to him), almunia, bendtner, rosicky and diaby (enough is enough he is too injury prone, and inconsistent), possibly clichy so we don’t lose him for nothing!

We don’t need to spend a large amount because the selling of the above dead weight should generate a fair amount. Bring through lansbury, ramsey, frimpong, and ryo.

Schezzer is good enough in goal (his game against the scum proved that), we need another CB, depending on vermaelans injury (plus im sure we will get told he is like a new signing anyway), scott parker if fabregas leaves, and a quality striker to partner RVP.

I hope when fabregas is sold they don’t pocket the majority of the money, or buy 1 player worth a quarter of that and keep the rest.

We’ll see how Arsenal is going to play today and where they end up at the end of the season. So far the Arsenal players have been a bunch of bottlers…..can’t win a game…you Wenger lovers need to wake up….Wenger point blank tells you to shut up and let me do things my way…..the fans have control if they want to but you are too scared to speak out. We had the league this season in our hands had only Wenger spent a bit of money in the January transfer. Since Dean left Wenger has been clueless and stubborn. In Arsene we rust…..
The reason for my previous post is i know if we win our last remaining games and still not win the PL, Wenger will not invest in new players……he will turn around and say we were close and therefore there is no need to buy any players, he will also tell you that the average team is 23 years of age who have over achieved this season and will be better next season……same bullshit every year from Wenger. If you are all happy to finish 3rd/4th every season then you no longer believe Arsenal are a big club and have short memories.
