Bolton defender Gary Cahill is said to be “hopeful” of joining Arsenal this summer, reports the Daily Mirror this morning.
The paper says the centre-back, 25, has become one of the Premier League’s top defenders since joining them from Aston Villa for £5million in January 2008.
It’s no secret that AW has had him on his list of targets all season and after a season of woe we are desperate for decent defenders. The Mirror says Cahill, capped three times by England, has now told friends that he is optimistic about making a summer move to the Emirates. this isn’t qualified in the pice by a quote direct or otherwise. So, yes it could be poppycock.
It would mean AW splashing the cash, as Cahill is valued at £15m. But we could face competition for Cahill’s signature from Manchester United.
Manchester City’s win last night against Stoke City means we look set to have to play in the qualifiers for the Champions League. I know.
