Mike Harvey

I'm 20 and have been an Arsenal season ticket holder since 2006. My family has had Arsenal links since the 1920's, and the support is still going strong. I am at every home game, and also manage to get to multiple away games, when I can. I have been writing for various blogs and websites since I was 15, but have now settled down and have become a regular writer for Arsenalinsider. I also run my own Pro Evolution Soccer blog, Only Pro Evolutions. Arsenal is my passion. Writing is my passion. I was never good enough to play for The Arsenal, so I'll do the next best thing!

I thought its a compensation package of 1 mil – no fee as hes out of contract – but as hes under 24 we have to agree compensation – they wanted 3 but it was negotiated to 1mil

Why are we p*****g about with teenagers…we want mature, experienced defenders not a boy from the lower leagues.

This isn’t going to help us win anything next season.

If Gibbs is the replacement for Clichy and this is Gibb’s replacement, there are going to be some angry Gooners next year.

Unlikely, he’s a right sided defender, understudy for Sagna and replacement for Eboue.

    @Beegeegs
There are a number of permutations at left back. Vermaelen could be moved there and we buy a big, experienced centre back. And don’t forget young impressive Miquel, waiting in the wings.

you say that but his presence means no messing about with s*** players like Denilson or the tomfoolery of Eboue. As much as we all like it not every squad player is gonna be world class. As long as they are dependable and solid, this signing and the inevitable futures ones (eg Ricky ALvarez?) have got to be better than the current rubbish

    echoes of squillachi here.

if he has potential surely someone would have snapped him up before he got to 23.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm not sure about this one.

Concise, well written, but don’t be reluctant to add some color, if you have an opinion, go ahead. If someone doesn’t like your opinion, hey it’s only their opinion. ;-)

ARSENE AND HILLWOOD HAVE FAILED AND FROM ENDING 4TH, SO THERE IS ONLY 16 PLACES LEFT TO THE BOTTOM. ARSENAL HAD BECOME A SELLING CLUB AND WITH THIS EXODUS OF PLAYERS WE ARE DOOMED AND HE STILL ASK FOR PATIENCE.5 YEARS IS BECOMING 10 YEARS WITHOUT A TROPHY.

Apparently not good enough for Juve actually. He has barely featured in a horrible season for them (no European football for them next year). I haven’t seen him play so it’s hard to comment but critics have been pretty scathing when he’s made it onto the field. Good experience for the boy, but I’d be VERY surprised if he was invited back.

…The article is about purchasing players actually. Not sure where this ‘exodus’ is coming from. I’m not sure anyone has even left yet. *sigh* If he keeps them he’s senile, if he sells them it’s an exodus. I don’t know why I bother…

You’re right. We should take a leaf out of the Spuds book and ditch it all together. That way we can justify spending £150mil every 18 months and end up with a bulging squad full of average players nobody else wants, be laughed at as we get knocked back by bidding ridiculous amounts for every single player scoring goals in Europe and then finish 5th at the end of the season.
I mean Wilshere, Cesc, VP and Walcott are pretty crap anyway right???

Not to mention basically the entire barcelona team. Having a good academy is definitely not the way forward.

Yet another kid. It seems he is linked with 99% of all wc kids. Whatever it is Wenger better know his kids have failed the last six years.
I hope he doesn’t go and get kids for the problems areas. If he does,it will be back to sqaure one.

Whether we sign kids is irrelevant to whether we sign experience. Both must carry on, otherwise you get into Chelsea’s position where they had a rude wake-up call wrt their academy. This guy in my mind is Eboue’s replacement, and Sagna is an excellent player to learn under.

Yeah, get one from brazil that’ll get home sick and stroppy, or one that gets picked for their national team and spends days travelling for their matches! or a Spanish player doesn’t like the british weather or ‘way of life’, that get dragged off to any minor tournament so the spanish FA can pick up a few extra $ whilst they’re the champions….
Don’t get one locally, cheaply and with loads of potential!

I can understand that Wenger ness to buy some new young players, just for the motivation issue against lower teams, but we need at least 4 first team players.
1 Proven DC to partner Vermaelen and replace him if he get injured cause he will like everybody else -> Vertonghen or Sakho
2 Proven Wingers both side as we need it to go back to 4-4-2. Gervinho and Hazard. Any team with proper wingers is lethal. Just see how these two did the French league and cup.
1 Proven striker upfront to replace RVP on long term an partner him. Despite everything else, I could only see Huntelaar or Hulk, tall enough and skillful enough to play poacher or target man.
1 Proven DM. This is the hardest part. Personally I’d get Flamini back. Him and Fabregas together would be perfect partnership.
Ultimately, De Rossi would be better pick but way harder to get and pay.
