Wenger set to sell Clichy from Arsenal to Roma for £7m

CLICHY

Arsene Wenger has seemingly given Gael Clichy the green light to complete his move from Arsenal to Roma for £7million, claims the Daily Mirror this morning. The paper says a deal is about to be thrashed out between the Arsenal hierarchy and Roma bod Walter Sabatini, who is heading to London for talks.

The paper adds that Clichy may be sold because he has yet to extend his contract and that Sabatini hopes to knock the Gunners down from their current £10 million asking price.

Elsewhere it is widely reported that Arsenal’s second biggest shareholder Alisher Usmanov has increased his stake in the Premier club to beyond 29 per cent. Uzbek billionaire Usmanov’s stake in the Gunners still leaves him trailing behind majority shareholder Stan Kroenke, whose holding has increased to 66.1% amid a takeover bid.

Usmanov’s Red and White Holdings company announced in a statement: “Red & White Securities Limited today announces that it now holds a stake of over 29% in Arsenal Holdings plc.” Kroenke had made his initial takeover move for Arsenal back in April and boosted his stake by buying shares from former directors Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith and the state of the late Danny Fiszman.

The Premier League has approved the club’s change of ownership and, last month, Kroenke gave the club’s remaining shareholders 14 days’ notice on his unconditional offer to own 100 per cent of the club. As we know, Usmanov has insisted he will not sell to Kroenke, as have the Arsenal Supporters’ Trust, who own a small number of the shares.

It is reported that when Kroenke passed the 62% threshold, Arsenal were valued at £731million, but an outright takeover is looking unlikely following Usmanov’s decision to increase his stake.

This new section does seem to be going down about as well as when arsenal.com did it on their site. I guess people don’t like site that repeats the daily drivel.
It does seem to encourage the dim-witted fans to take this a ‘gospel’.

Well a busy start to the Summer transfer season. We have signed Barratts for a net gain of £25m and spent £1.om on Jenkinson.

Really getting bored of the whole Fabregas thing and beginning to wonder if we should not just move on and say for £25m plus tThiago and Delfouso ( whatever he s called ) your on. Thiago looked very good in the U21s.

Does a player who really wants to go be a good thing to stay as El Capitaino? Dont want barca’s grinding tactics to win but we need to move froward positively.

It seems there a huge number of players who either want or need to go

    clichy
    cesc
    Nasri??? not sure
    arshavin ??? not sure
    Almunia
    squid
    Watts
    Eastmond
    Rosicky
    denilson
    Bentdner
Traore ( what happens to him?)
    Eboue??? Probably stays

Lots to be done early days but not a fast start!!

Most of the players who we want to be sold will move abroad, and the international transfer window isn’t open yet so I would expect things to pick up after july 1st.

And I don’t think anyone is desperate enough to sign them to try and get a pre-contractual agreement with them!

So what do people think of the number of fans who are selling out to Usmanov? 416 shares have been sold to him in the past 8 days and assuming most of these are by supporters who have 1 or 2 shares, this seems quite a lot of shareholders selling up.

Will Usmanov’s bid see the end of fan ownership in Arsenal considering over 95% of shares are now held by two billionaires?

Its good news for AW lackeys. And not for genuine Arsenal fans. AW could not put Clichy to an extended use rather than making him stick to his LB defending role. His role could not get extended to a winger who could send a few crosses over to the 2nd post. Not even a spot-kicker who could float a 40 yarder from Arsenal half to the opponents ‘D’. Clichy used to lack in confidence while was up there and 9/10 times used to give away the ball and had to come running back. AW spoilt this footballer. Clichy could not flourish due to AW’s hackneyed vision of tippy-tappy- passy-pissy football. A senior Arsenal veteran being offered a piddly 7 Mill is more proof than all my words. AW will only get monkeys from this 7 mill of peanuts this Clichy-sale will bring in.

    We will miss you, Gael.

Correct me if I am wrong but I would say Clichy is probably the best/most experienced left back on the market this summer. So why would Wenger sell him for £7million? I know he only has one year on his contract, but Arsenal must get at least £10 million for him.
