Wenger to lose Clichy to City in £7m deal

CLICHY

Arsene Wenger looks likley to lose Gael Clichy to Manchester City as Roberto Mancini considers a £7m bid for the Gunners full-back, says the Daily Telegraph this morning. Meanwhile, Cesc Fabregas is confident of becoming a Barcelona player this summer. Oh, and Samir Nasri is still off to Manchester United. Regards the latter, I had a call last night saying he was having a medical at Very Old Trafford today. But, hey, it’s all bunkum until the fat lady knocks one out, eh?

Welcome the world’s only news Arsenal round-up written in an office in Bognor Regis. And today’s gems come from the Daily Mail, Sun, Mirror and

For starters, the Mail says Barca have increased their bid for our captain to £35million plus “add-ons”. They carry the Cesc quotes that have been doing the rounds since yesterday from the player who was attending a football campus in Tordera, Spain. He said: “If a player is on the market it is because the club does not want him. I have no problems. I’m calm and I am optimistic. I have nothing to say and there is nothing to speak of.”

Clear as mud, that.

The paper claims that Farca president Sandro Rosell wants the deal
done before he goes on holiday next week and believes the latest bid is the fairest his club can offer. Tell you what, Sandro old son, make it £50mil and let’s do business.

The Mirror reports that AW hopes that Ivory Coast striker Gervinho can persuade Samir Nasri to stay at Arsenal. Various reports this morning claim that Nasri is poised for a £12mil (rises to £20mill in some papers) swap to the Mancs.

Arsenal have offered Nasri a new, £90,000-a-week, five-year contract that would – after Fabregas’ move, which is likely to be completed this week – make him the highest-paid player at the club. It is understood that Nasri wants £100,000 a week.

Finally, the Sun says AW is considering an £8m bid for Inter Milan keeper Emiliano Viviano.

We aren’t even offering him six figures?

Fábregas was earning £110,000 a week. Surely we can give Samir what he wants.

jk – Arsenal have not underachieved for a long time you numbskull!! Sure there was a period under the current manager where we over achieved but the only time we underachieved was in the first 44 years of our history when we won exactly nothing. We are the 3rd most successful English Club in history, behind the dominating Liverpool team of the 70′s and 80′s and the recent dominating Man United side. You are probably referring to the 5th worst trophyless period of our history, namely the last 6 seasons, when we have appeared in 2 major domestic finals, 1 Champions League Final and finished in the top 4 every season. That is some under achievement, i can think of at least 87 clubs that would swap the last 6 years with us, even Spurs and Man City would have given up their Carling Cup win to match our last 6 seasons.

Clichy for 7m is being too cheap, fabrigas was not a good captain coz he has not lived by example. He has sparked off the exodus of players from Arsenal fc.the next captain should be a mature englishman.

As such, current rumoured status reads:

    1) Cesc to Barca (£35million + add ons)
Seems likely the only destination should he leave. And Thiago Alcantara has extended his contract @ Barca, so he will not be part of any deal.

    2) Nasri to ManU (£20million)
Or AC Milan could have launched an “Operation Nasri” to snare the playmaker to Italy? Read link -> http://www.rossoneriblog.com/2011/06/30/operation-nasri-milan-visited-paris/ (similarly to what they did when getting Flamini in 2008; Galliani laughing and pointing at our club, “Haha, suckers! We got you again!”)

    3) Clichy to ManC (£7million)
Where AS Roma and Liverpool are still in the picture for the left back.

What of Denilson, Bendtner, Almunia, Squillaci and the rest of the dead wood? All going for free?

D-Day on 1st July definitely for the club (with regards to the so-called summer transfer season).

A jubilant and optimistic crowd OR one with a gathering of pitchforks and torches (where PHW, IG & AW could be on the top 3 “hunted” list; Them being the 3 Masters in Procrastination)

…and then give van Persie what he wants and Vermaelen what he wants and so on and so on…

    It’s called a wage structure!

It’s designed to keep wages within an affordable range!

£100,000 a week is FIVE MILLION TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND POUNDS A YEAR. Think about it!

During the watch of “Old Mother” Riley, referees have been encouraged to keep the game “flowing”. Certain managers have used this mantra to employ players who would not be allowed to play in any other premier league except the EPL.

My own view is that Cesc Fabregas is no longer medically fit to complete a full campaign of the EPL, without suffering long term health problems. There is a simple reason for this theory, look at the player and the past 18 months. Also, a little fact from our little Russian, Cesc bought presents for each of his teammates in The Arsenal. That is perhaps the reason Cesc went to Barcelona, the present would be cheaper to buy?

London Colney is currently being again upgraded with the state-of-the-art medical equipment. Would Cesc pass the tests?

This is an off-note comment to the thread:

Wenger on Arsenal’s Asia Tour 2011 from the club website:

    Link-> http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/free-video-wenger-on-the-asia-tour-2011

I am from Singapore and I comment that ALL the scenaries captured in the video are places in my country ! (Instead of showing scenes in China and Malaysia, where the club will be touring)

00.26 to 00.27 = The Singapore River at foreground, with background of The Esplanade and Marina Bayfront complexes at the horizon.

00.28 to 00.33 = Orchard Road (Shopping District)

01.04 to 01.07= Skyline looking at our Central Business District (at Marina Bay, Raffles Place & City Hall)

01.09 to 01.11 = Close-Up on ION Orchard shopping complex along Orchard Road

01.34s to 01.39s = At one of the Arsenal Fan Clubhouses/pubs where supporter/fans gathered for to watch live games (hah :-) )

At the end, Wenger mentioned Ryo Miyachi (02.47 to 02.54), a player at Dortmund (Japanese international Shinji Kagawa), CSKA Moscow’s Keisuke Honda & lastly ManU’s Ji Sung-Park. (Not saying that we could be signing the 3 players of course)

    Reported in goal.com:

Arsene Wenger tells Arsenal fans to expect transfer activity to pick up at the end of July.

    Read more –> http://www.goal.com/en/news/11/transfer-zone/2011/06/30/2554737/arsene-wenger-tells-arsenal-fans-to-expect-transfer-activity

    Quote from Wenger:

“We are in a waiting period, everybody is waiting that the other [club] moves,” he told Alsace TV.

“It is a transfer period. Everybody has their cards in [their] hands, hoping for the big transfer. There is nothing moving yet. The period will be more active at the end of July when we will need to really strengthen the team.

“There is always pressure, England is the hardest championship in the world, some teams have more money than us. We have to accept it and do the maximum.

“We decided to respect some rules in our club, especially on the financial side in an environment that does not respect that. We respect [the] quality of the game and human quality too. It means it is harder for us when you respect these three topics.

“We live exactly in the way everybody should, with a balance between revenues and expenses. I think we should be seen as an example and it is often not the case. We have been very constant for many years now.”

    OoooooooKkkkkk …. :-?

With regards to Cesc, Nasri & Clichy could be departures, what say we:

    1) Cesc to Barca (£35million + £5million performance bonus add-ons + £12million rated Ibrahim Afellay)?

Afellay has already won La Liga & Champions League titles with Barca. Ask if he would like to a new challenge at EPL next. (since we might be losing both Cesc and Nasri this summer)

    2) Nasri to (ManU or ManC or AC Milan)
    3) Clichy to (ManC or Pool or Roma)

Both players on last year of contract and if they do not sign new contracts with club, they can go for free at the end of next season.

Some bad man-management from the club when not being able to renew both players’ contract before their last year (that is IF the club really WANTS to retain both players initially). Had the club be prepared to negotiate earlier and it had been known that both players ,on their part, do not wish to extend their contracts then, we could have put them on sale to the highest bidder.

Now the ball is with both players (& their agents) and they are either wanting to go (Clichy) or demanding higher wages (Nasri).

Time for Gibbs/Jenkinson(LB), Wilshere, Ramsey & Lansbury (CMs) to get more involved.

:sigh: I got 2 sentences for the club.

    (1) You reap what you sow.
    (2) At the end, you get what you deserved. (I know it hurts, I know it hurts)

Lastly, an radio blog update (Link-> http://www.talksport.co.uk/radio/kickoff/blog/2011-06-29/olley-i-believe-gervinho-had-medical-arsenal-today) at talkSport in that Gervinho has gone for a medical at Arsenal (Comments on Arsenal starting at 04.15; comments prior were on Chelsea and Villas-Boas). Also mentioning Gary Cahill coming next (cash + a player going to Bolton deal).

We’ve become the English Ajax. Once great club only selling the good/better players. What’s left is shit. Down with the board and down with the impotent Wenger. I’m shocked to see what’s become to him. Everyone is strengthening, but us.
