Arsenal Give Away 2 Goal Lead

Johan Djourou’s defensive error gifted Pablo Mouche the equaliser as Boca Juniors fought back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Emirates Cup.

The hosts looked comfortable after Robin Van Persie opened the scoring on 29 minutes before half-time substitute Aaron Ramseydoubled their advantage with his first touch two minutes after the break.

Lucas Viatri halved the deficit after 69 minutes before Arsenal’s old failings rang true once again when Djourou allowed Mouche in to level.

Arsene Wenger handed debuts to new boysGervinho and Carl Jenkinson for the visit of 23-time Argentine champions Boca, who lost 3-1 to Spanish side Espanyol on Wednesday in the first game of their European tour.

The 19-year-old Jenkinson only made his debut for Charlton Athletic in December 2010 and went on to make a handful of appearances for the Addicks before being snapped up by Arsenal in June, while Ivory Coast international Gervinho signed from Lille in July.

And Gervinho made an immediate impact, beating his man after eight minutes before sending in a low cross which Van Persie hit wide on the turn.

And it would be the 24-year-old Gervinho set-up Arsenal’s opener, surging forward on the left before whipping in a teasing ball which Van Persie turned home at the near post.

Wenger made five substitutions at half-time and Ramsey was soon on the score sheet, sending a rasping shot past the Boca keeper from the edge of the box after a darting run by fellow sub Vela.

That looked to have sewn the points up but Sebastien Squillaci carelessly gave away possession in his own half and Viatri went on to lash home from 18 yards.

Boca had done little to justify their reputation as South America’s most decorated team until then but that breathed renewed confidence into Julio Casar Falcioni’s side.

And the visitors pounced when Djourou got the wrong side Mouche to allow the Argentina international to slot home and leave Wenger pondering his side’s defensive misgivings just two weeks before the Premier League campaign begins.

The only solution is to buy more attacking players ;-)

If anymore proof was needed, here it is in spades. Two appalling defensive errors, one each by Djourou and the ever hopeless Squillaci gave away a victory again.

Never mind trying to sign wingers or strikers or mid-fielders, Wenger get your finger out and sign two quality centre backs!.

Mr. Wenger & Mr. Rice, if you have not realized the same flaw in Arsenal’s performances, this game sums it up. The hole is so wide it is hard to miss. Buy two class defenders and a defensive coach as a matter of urgency and send Squallici immediately to the reserves. Our defense is still light weight – Chris Samba you must have in your team.

Upfront Lukaku, he will make a difference to your attacking option. What have you done to Chamahk, the lad has lost his fight spirit?

Personally I think wenger has lost his marbles, and pat rice is giving him jesus juice at night. The whole game was just a deja vu of the past 6 years. Its a damn joke.

Nothing new hear – DJ is worse than useless, guilty again today, guilty for both goals at Fulham and all three at Stoke before that. His mistakes are clocking up. The other idiot Squid should never pull an Arsenal shirt on again. Good old Wenger every defensive target he goes for has now gone up a few more million.

I’m glad it happened as Wenger needs it continually hammered home to him. If won both games easily this weekend with no alarms then as per his past form Wenger is likely to say everything is rosy & not make a major defensive signing. It’s scandalous the hopeless Squillaci is STILL allowed to wear the shirt.

I hope that we lost the game so AW will stop the kidding himself. but even we yet again go from 2-0 up to 2-2 AW does not want to see the problem and I don’t know why really. another thing what a insult to the team giving the armband to Nasri. to make the long story short (SAME OLD ARSENAL)AW must move NOW

Djourou just does not get it. Positioning is diabolical. I would think a year off with injury and you become an absolute student of your position and the game. The club has been completely happy to tie the player into their marketing he’s all over arsenal 360 and arsenal world last season. Enough. Spend your time on the practice field my son perfecting your trade as god love ya you are still very wanting!!

Quite right, well said. But my beef is also that we need a proper defensive coach and Wenger won’t allow that to happen. He preferred to persuade poor old Pat Rice to stay on as a Yes Man.

Yes but he needs to be coached in how to defend. In the last few years we have developed no good young defenders … not one. There is no longer any defensive culture at the club.

If Fucking Chamack playes again for arsenal, I will kill myself. We have one striker, utd, chelsea, city, liverpool all have three fantastic strikers. If we don`t get relegated this season I will be very happy. I dont even wnat to talk about the defencive issues, its just to many. Arsenal is finished,

And while your at it, get a coach who knows how to teach defence. Individual mistakes is one thing but the number of positional errors against poor teams is shameful and when we start to face better teams, even with better defenders, we will still be opened up several times a game just because they aren’t well drilled.

Surely he has to pay the extra few million or we’ll be losing a lot more than that by not finishing in the top four…
