Arsenal On Verge Of Dann Capture?

Arsenal are on the verge of signing Birmingham defender Scott Dann, according to the latest reports.

Sky Sports News sources state that Arsenal have opened preliminary talks with Birmingham, over a possible move for Dann.

The 24-year old is expected to leave St. Andrews this summer, after his side were relegated to the Championship, after a miserably late finish on the final day of last season.

The centre back has been linked with many clubs, including Chelsea and Liverpool, but it seems that The Gunners have won the race and look certain to sign Scott Dann.

Cesc Fabregas is expected to leave The Emirates this summer, in a deal worth around £40m, including add-ons. Arsene Wenger is also likely to lose Samir Nasri, so will have vast funds available to invest in the transfer market, before the summer window ends.

Arsene Wenger wants a new centre back, and it appears that Scott Dann is the man.

I'm 20 and have been an Arsenal season ticket holder since 2006. My family has had Arsenal links since the 1920's, and the support is still going strong. I am at every home game, and also manage to get to multiple away games, when I can.

I have been writing for various blogs and websites since I was 15, but have now settled down and have become a regular writer for Arsenalinsider. I also run my own Pro Evolution Soccer blog, Only Pro Evolutions.

Arsenal is my passion. Writing is my passion. I was never good enough to play for The Arsenal, so I'll do the next best thing!

not a bad signing i think. question is how much of the £50m is going to be reinvested in a playmaker and another striker?

Good signing he is a very solid dependable centre half. I’d be happy with him Kozzer Vermanlen and Djourou as our centre halves this season.

I think we will play 4-2-2 but Arshivan is more suited to the centre position Cesc played last season if you stick with 4-3-3 …..Rosicky can also play there and I think Wilshere could as well.

Now we just need to bring in Barton to give the midfield real bit and protect the defence and a striker personally I’s love to see Charlton Cole up front with V Persie playing off him .

Lastly get rid of Narsi he doesnt want to be here ask for Micheal Johnson as part of the deal and we are good to go after we ship out Vela, Squallaci, Alumnia, Eboune, Denilson and Bendther. If no one is buying loan with option to buy next year.

This is ridiculous news. It’s absurd. Liverpool are also trying to buy Scott Dan and Scott Dan was born in Liverpool and Scott Dan is a former SEASON TICKET holder at The Kop …. So of course he’s going to jump at a chance to join Arsenal and turn down Liverpool.

will liverpool pay him as much as arsenal
are liverpool intrested in a cb DONT THINK SO

ITS NOT ABOUT WHERE HE WAS BORN OR WHATEVER well not in most cases

and from his view arsenal are a better team who have more chanve to win anything then liverpool

who most problet wont even be in the champions league next year.

Ok, so let me get this right. We’ve lost a number of players with hundreds of games’ worth of experience in the Premier and Champions Leagues this summer and, so far, our only purchases are a player from a lesser French league, a 19-year-old and a 17-year-old from the third tier of English football and now, Wenger wants to bring in a player with a dodgy injury record and who was relegated from the Premier League last season???

NOT F&&KING GOOD ENOUGH, WENGER!!! GET OUT OF THE CLUB NOWWWWWWWWWW!!!

Where is the in Wengers words the “super quality singing” This was even before the impending departures of Nasri and Cesc
We are still shopping at Primark
Why spend 12 millin on a kid and not 17 million on Cahill?
Questions need to be asked two world class players leave and replaced by kids
WAKE UP WENGER CANT YOU SEE THAT YOU ARE TAKING THIS CLUB BACKWARDS

I think wenger is again goin for quantity instead of quality by signin dann,i mean this is a player who was injured for as long as TV last season, apart from that,i dont feel he is the world class defender we need and wenger is only goin for him cos he will b cheaper than cahil or samba,.i think the signin of dann will only make sense if we stil go ahead to sign either of cahil or samba(cos despite everythin, dann is stil beta than djourou, sqillaci n i think evn kolscieny..bt offcourse not TV)…but if he turns out 2 b our only defensive signin,it will b a shame

You say Dann is not a world class defender (i agree) but then say you want cahill or samba…neither of them are world class defenders. Cahill gets found out by ok strikers, positioning isn;t great but good at recovery. Plus he is a major bump at 17mil.
there is no substance to say Dann is better than Kozzer or Djourou
Dann was fit unitl xmas, so i believe.

Ok so why doesn’t the manager buy a world class defender?

I don’t know who that would be but if you manager a supposedly top club then you should be able to find a player who is of top quality. Every other top club in europe has at least 2 top class centre backs. Why don’t we??

I believe the answer to that is because Wenger would rather not take the risk of spending money (despite it being available to him) on proven players with reputations in case they fail and he can’t make a profit when selling them on. Instead he prefers to buy unproven, cheap players who won’t make the bank balance look bad if they fail.

Im sorry but this is getting out of hand now it dont matters what wenger does latly it just not good enough. To be honest i dont have a clue how to run a fottball club and im sure im not the only one if any of you lot who are shouting your mouth off.. really believe you can do a better Job than Mr Wenger apply for the job…otherwise just stop jumping on the bandwagon.

No one is saying they can do a better job. But there are certainly managers out there who might be able to.

The new stadium is meant to bring renewed financial muscle to arsenal which seems to be coming into fruition now (considering we’ve just spent £15 million on a 17 year old). So the argument that Wenger has brought continued success with a small budget is now fading into irrelevance. Don’t get me wrong, its very impressive what Arsene has done with the budget he has had but he hasn’t been able to keep up with other clubs recently and now we have a larger budget, it is not the case that no manager’s previous track record is irrelevant because they have always had a large budget.

Arsenal and other clubs have had success with managers other than Arsene and there is no reason why arsenal can’t have success with another manager in the near future.

Exactly Nick, who the hell do some of these fans think they are!? None of us are intelligent enough to be the manager otherwise we wouldn’t be commenting on here. Hahahaha. We don’t just buy players for no reason. Wenger (he’s the one in charge of the team) has a plan and studies players stats etc and sees if they will fit in with the TEAM. If he makes wrong signings we won’t know until the end of the season. Don’t judge the man before a ball has been kicked! Grow brains!

    Edub,

True, but he had a plan last season too and the season before that, and the season before that, and the season before that, and the season before that etc. And as you may well know it didn`t work out, so it might be getting to late for that “no football” has been played yet argument. Maybe its time for a change, but I`m not saying that for sure. If we get Dann/Mertesacker/Cahill or Jagielca in defence, Mata in midfield, and Benzema up front by 31.aug I`ll be a happy man, if not, then time is up for Wenger in my opinion.

i agree with dan aka the truth..you dont have to be a football manager to know who is doing a good job and who isnt….the board of most clubs use one measuring yardstick: success on the field….wenger hasnt done it for years…he is well past his sell-by date..he cannot buy top quality players…henry, pires etc were gifted to him…he wont spend the really big money…he hasnt the balls for it!…he has flattered to deceive. A lot of managers could have done better than he has over the past 6 seasons. Because he has kept the same policy thats why…others would have corrected his strategy when it wasnt clearly working.

      mr newbroom,

a very good point. The people who decide who the manager is, couldn’t do the job themselves, yet they are still able to make informed decisions on the matter. They may make good decisions or bad decisions but surely taking positive action is better than continuing with a status quo that has failed for so many years.

The fact is that The Arsenal have not been out of the top four THIS CENTURY!! Competed in the Champions League every season THIS CENTURY!

It’s quite obvious that Wenger also no longer knows how to run a football club. One day before the season starts and we’re about to sell, arguably, our two best players.

Only a couple on months ago, Wenger stated something like. If a team sells it’s best players, it shows a lack of ambition and therefore signing new quality players becomes a problem”

In this ornings press conference, Wenger said “I don’t expect anyone to leave the club”

I don’t know whether to cry or laugh along with the rest of the country.
