Galatasaray Sign Eboue From Arsenal

Galatasaray have completed the signing of Emmanuel Eboue from Arsenal, in a deal worth £3.5m.

The 28-year old Ivorian has signed for the Turkish side, after agreeing terms and completing a medical this morning.

Eboue arrived at Arsenal, after leaving Belgium side, Beveren in 2005. He made 132 appearances for The Gunners, scoring 5 goals.

He wasn’t the best footballer we’ve seen to wear the famous red and white shirt, but he sure was a delightful character, that will be sorely missed in the dressing room.

My favourite memory of Eboue would have to be his heroic antics in Bad Waltersdorf, a couple of seasons ago.

It was Andrei Arshavin’s first pre-season with the club. The little Russian was clearly in no mood to sign autographs and take photos with the fans, and disappointingly, walked straight towards the team coach.

However, Eboue saw this and was far from impressed.

Just as Arshavin was about to step onto the coach, Eboue bear hugged the little Russian, dragging him away from the coach, and then forced him to appreciate the small gooner gathering, who had made great efforts to come all the way out to Austria.

Even the rather stubborn Arshavin laughed at the situation. After about 10 minutes of photos and autographs, it seemed that every fan was content. Arshavin then proceeded to attempt his second trip back onto the coach. But again, was stopped by Eboue who was making final checks, ensuring that every fan had been dealt with.

A cult hero. A fans favourite. And rightly so. Eboue was a rare footballer, who understood that a little bit of time and effort means everything to the fans.

Definitely not the best player in the world, but there’s no doubt that he will be greatly missed by the people who knew him well.

I'm 20 and have been an Arsenal season ticket holder since 2006. My family has had Arsenal links since the 1920's, and the support is still going strong. I am at every home game, and also manage to get to multiple away games, when I can.

I have been writing for various blogs and websites since I was 15, but have now settled down and have become a regular writer for Arsenalinsider. I also run my own Pro Evolution Soccer blog, Only Pro Evolutions.

Arsenal is my passion. Writing is my passion. I was never good enough to play for The Arsenal, so I'll do the next best thing!

Not everyone can be a superstar and a squad player with a good attitude and a concern for the fans is worth a lot of respect!

He hasn’t gone anywhere…yet! All us Gooners should wait til it’s on the Arsenal website before assuming things. It isn’t on there so therefore he is still an Arsenal player…unfortunately.

Squad players are never to be taken for granted.  While the Bendtners and Denilsons moan about first team chances, the players who recognise their support role in the team and get on without fussing are worth so much.

clichy gone, fabregas gone, eboue gone, nasri wants out, denilson wants out, bendtnar wants out etc etc.  What does wenger do, yes thats right he brings ia 17 year old kid for 12 million and 19 year old for1 million and a player that played in the french league.  Wenger has lost his marbles.

He has stuck with gibbs, squicllaci, djourou and Tv5, hell djouro aint even a CB hisa converted midfilder.  His basiclly gone for th same defence that weve has for the opreviuos fail campaings, with even less experience, and more injury prone players.  has lost hsi marbles.

Eboue will join the cult heroes such as Perry Groves, Gus Caeser and Ray Parlour.  not the most gifted, but gave everything and seemed to be liked by the majority of fans for his effort and taking the time with them.

Thank you Manu, for all your service, your loyalty and your perfect example to all other players in the game.

If football had more guys like Eboué and fewer primadonnas then events like Saturday’s disgrace would never happen.

The Ivoirien never had the talent of a Fabregas, a Nasri or a Wilshere, but he never short-changed anyone.  Alongside the glamour players, someone has to put in a shift and this guy was the fittest, most dynamic player I have seen at Arsenal save for Vieira.  Mr Wenger couldn’t decide whether he was better at right back or in midfield, but it didn’t matter.  He just played both at the same time.

So often he was left out, but we never heard a word from him.  He had one really bad game for the Gunners and the losers among the fans couldn’t wait to bully him for it.  But did he sulk?  Did he go weeping to the manager?  Did he ask for a transfer?  No; he went back into training and 2 games later he was back in the heart of the action.

I hope the fans remember this guy for being instrumental in two runs to the Champions League final.  He had a winning mentality 3 sizes too big for his body and his natural talent, but where would his star-name sidekicks be today if he had not been there, day in, day out.  He had what too many of his shamefaced team-mates lack.  He had attitude!

I personally would have liked to keep him.  But Mr Wenger is right; he is no longer first-choice and it would be a crime to keep him on the bench.  At Gala he will earn €60,000 a week and he will EARN it!  At his new club play 50-60 games a season and I can’t help feeling that one of those, one day, will be back at the Emirates.

And I will try to be there to give him a standing ovation!

Just in case I don’t make it, I ask all all you Arsenal fans to join me in standing and wishing Manu all the best for the future and give him our heartfelt thanks for all he has done during his time at the club.

Emmanuel Eboué… you are a credit to the game, the club, your family and yourself.  Farewell!
