Crocked Wilshere throws Arsenal into injury crisis

Jack Wilshere has added to Arsenal’s growing injury crisis and has been put in a surgical boot to protect his ankle injury, says the Mirror.  He is set to miss games against Liverpool and Udinese and is battling to be fit for the trip to Manchester United on Sunday week, says the paper this morning.

The injury crisis only adds to the problems facing AW, who could be without nine first-teamers when Liverpool arrive at the Emirates on Saturday.

Meanwhile the Mail reports that AW is trying to find a new central defender and he is set to revive his interest in Germany international Per Mertesacker.  The paper says the possible capture of Mertesacker is unlikely to satisfy fans who have grown tired of the caution in the transfer market.

The Werder Bremen player, 26, has 75 international caps, was an Arsenal target 12 months ago and now has less than a year to run on his contract.  The German side value him at around £9million but could let him go for £6.5m, it is claimed.

The Sun says City hope to seal the £22million signing of Samir Nasri inside 24 hours. He is heading for a medical before penning a five-year deal. In the same paper Theo has staked his claim to play up front after his goal against Udinese.

He said: “I would like to put it out there that I want to play up front. The boss has always promised me that I will get a chance to play through the middle and it’s now been six years since I joined the club. If I keep scoring like I did the other night, maybe I’ll get a chance up front. I’m not making any demands, but I am giving the boss something to think about.”

Arsene and Board Management is making Arsenal a laughing stock ! Whats the point of wining the second leg when eventually in later rounds of  Champions League we are destined to lose with such inexperienced and young squad !! Sorry I forgot…..we don’t play to win….our manager is happy to be second !!! There seems to be no intent from Arsene and the Management to be active on transfer market !!!

How do you know there is no intent to sign players??  Is it because we are not in the press broadcasting to everyone who we are after?  Just like Mr Twitch at the lane, who is revealing his targets at every opportunity.

If we have signed no one, or replacements for Fab and Nasri by the end of this month, I will be only too happy to come on here and voice my concern and displeasure.  But until that date, what else can we do but wait and see.

If AW does not sign anyone, the fans at the games will be massively on his case and he may even be hounded out.  Let’s just hope he does the right thing.

Now is the time not to become despondent and panic. The start of the season has been less than perfect and the next few weeks promise to be tricky. You have to remember that the season is a marathon not a sprint and where you finish is vital not where you start. Fans have to trust arsene to strengthen the squad with players who want to play for arsenal.

The situation at Arsenal is a farce, with AW right at the centre of it. Once again the “miser” won’t spend on experienced players for crucial positions (Centre Back, Centre Midfield, etc) but wastes £12m to £15m taking a punt on a 17 year old who will only really play in the Carling Cup.

The indiscipline in the squad is unbelievable. Wilshere tweeting instructions during the Newcastle match, and Song getting banned for his stupid stamp (forgot about the tv cameras Alex?) when we are already paper thin in midfield.

I think Wenger is destroying the club he created and needs to go now, he’s either incapable of managing a club of Arsenal’s size or expectation, or he’s angling for the sack with a job at PSG waiting for him.

Why would someone want to be sacked?  He could still walk into any other job.  Gary Neville talks more sense than you and he is a wan*er.

Can anyone tell me why Wenger has not snapped up Mertesacker – having tried without success to buy him not long before ?  He is young, experienced, dominant and not fast. Wenger knew all that last January and tried to get him.

I have a funny feeling a few of the players we are after are waiting to see if we qualify for the group stages of the champions league.  This may be the case with Mertesacker.  The delay may not be due to AFC.

why should arsene talk openly about his transfer targets? only to see their price getting inflated. rest assured new signings will be made. arsene knows what is required for this team and he will  buy within the budget. arsene may not assure you trophies, but he surely assures you that your club will not be debt laden and surviving on oil money.

Why are some of you so critical over Wenger ? every manager has a weakness, Wenger has a weakness in selecting good centre backs, that is not uncommon for a man who is ingrained with flair and forward play, when he joined Arsenal you already had established quality like Adams etc at the back, only Wenger will know the answer but I suspect he would have got rid of Adams had he not knuckled down and dedicated his life to football 100% instead of the alcohol, and combined with the fact you lot would have smashed Highbury up if he got shot of him meant Wenger nurtured Adams and actually got the best years out of him in my opinion, but Wenger does not know a good defender when he sees one, Senderos, Squilacci, Cygan, are awful, his philosophy is to close down from the front 2 and limit the opposition getting anywhere near his defence, this is a strategy that is second only to Barcelona in it’s success, however the personnel has rapidly declined that have the endurance or the ability to do it for 90 minutes and this leaves his weak defence exposed, people like Parlour, Pires, Vieira, Edu, Flamini, put one hell of a shift in, and these days the shield is just not there, even the front 2 where defending starts are not as hard working to meet the Wenger demands, Chamakh is lazy and Bendtner is pointless..Wenger knows this he is not daft but he can hardly admit to it can he !

He will get it right but he needs to find that work rate and shield again, Frimpong may just be the answer, in years gone by Kevin Richardson was, don’t always look for the big signings guys, work rate is irreplaceable and you are now beginning to see that !

As regards the transfer season.  First we needed to get the players early before other teams got involved and inflated the prices.  We needed to bring in  quality and experience first to make the squad stable. Also to give these younger players someone to look up to.  I have no problem taking on the young quality as long as they go straight into the squad and play bit parts when we can get them on the pitch for experience for the last ten  minutes of certain games.  As regards to Walcotts claim as striker I think the movement that him and Gervinho are displaying is great and with better   supply from centre midfield could cause all kinds of problems for any defence.  Also must keep a stable first 11 on the pitch with others working for that badge when they get that chance.  CONSISTANCY!!

Personally I’d prefer Vertonghen to mertesacker but even with squillaci waiting in the wings, I no longer think that centre back is the most pressing issue now that we have lost our most creative player and may lose another in Nasri.

We don’t necessarily need a like for like replacement for these players but we are definitely short on numbers in midfield and I also think we could do with a better defensive midfielder but again this has been pushed down the list.
