TGIF : Is Gazidis next in the firing line?

Well another week comes to an end and increasingly the running of Arsenal Football Club is becoming more of an issue than the performances on the field. The clock is ticking and with 12 days left in the transfer window, the likelihood of Arsenal strengthening to the level required to mount a realistic assault upon the Premier League Title appears more bleak as our injury jinx comes back to haunt us. Most Gooners would agree that we need at least one centre back, with Djourhou’s hamstring injury and Kyle Bartley’s loan back to Rangers, and Song’s suspension, we will have to face Liverpool and Manchester United with fingers crossed that we don’t lose another centre back. So let’s dive into the mix with Thanks Gooner it’s Friday.

Big Issues

Today I am going to focus on Ivan Gazidis, as I feel that he has alot to answer given the current public image of Arsenal Football club. The accepted wisdom according to his utterances at Q&As is that he knows nothing about the value of football players, certainly compared to Arsene Wenger, which is fair enough. But surely when it comes to our wage policy, he should be sorting that out. Arsenal keep claiming that there are substantial funds for transfers, so why wasn’t Juan Mata bought before his first buy out clause expired? Now Roman Abromovich will snap up the player for alot more admittedly. So what an absolute balls up from the Arsenal perspective as this was a bargain which was let go for what reason??? Yet every decent potentially world class player snapped up by our rivals is denied to the Arsenal, and so is weakening our prospects for success. Each passing day of the transfer window makes the Arsenal transfer buying policy look at best inept and at worst totally incompetent. To lose Fabregas is one thing but to have to lose Nasri and not have viable replacements is UNACCEPTABLE. Each day the end of the window grows nearer the price and availability of likely replacements go up. Because the selling clubs know that Arsenal are under increasing pressure to find the players. This will cost the club dear and lead to chaos. I will hold Ivan Gazidis responsible for the chaos as he is the only figure that is able to stand up to Arsene Wenger and makes sure that he stops making errors.

Feeding Frenzy

AKB Gooners versus WHOAG Gooners, with the media loving it. The Mirror’s football correspondent John Cross claims that it is not the media who are anti-Arsenal, it is actually the Arsenal fans themselves who are responsible for the negative image of Arsene Wenger. He claims that journalists are well received at the Emirates and because Arsene Wenger gives good copy they tend as a group to give him a softer ride. WTF??? Is this for real? Then Mr Cross I suppose it was the Arsenal fans who highlighted Arsene Wenger on Tuesday night which has resulted in the UEFA communications charge? I cannot recall the Mirror being very lenient on Ian Wright following their spat in the 1996 Man U v Arsenal fixture. Some of the calls for the FA to ban those players for their behaviour against Manchester United’s Peter Schmeichel came directly from the Mirror themselves, who then were undone when one of their own readers protested and pointed out that he could lip read and witnessed some possible racial undertones to the Dane’s comments at the end of the game. Get real Mr Cross, it is SKY and the Tabloid media who love to trumpet Arsenal in crisis headlines, so stop being a hypocrite.

Squad matters

Song and Gervinho suspended, Djourhou, Gibbs, Rosicky, Traore, Wilshere and Diaby injured. The Physio room is beginning to look like a training session at London Colney. The news that Samir Nasri is included in the squad is clearly an attempt to screw the best possible deal from Manchester City, and if it makes sure that we get the £22 million fair enough, but if Samir Nasri gets injured, it will be a very expensive gamble that back fires. My tip for the next Arsenal Legend Ryo Miyaichi looks likely to play, and I am really looking forward to his full senior debut.

The weekend’s Game

Kenny Dagleish has joined the race for the signature of Gary Cahill and comes to the Emirates after a draw against Sunderland. He has spent a considerable amount of money at the end of last season and now has to prove his pedigree. Liverpool seem eager to lay down a marker, and most reports from Anfield seem to indicate that there will never be a better time to come and play Arsenal. They are keen to show that Andy Carroll, Charlie Adam and Stuart Downing will give our defence a severe test. With Enrique, Suarez and Henderson, the rebuilt red army is ready to rumble. At least their defence has the likes of Agger and Carragher, but RvP will have to be on top form to undo the resolve of Pepe Reina.

Our team is likely to be from

Szczesny, Sagna, Jenkinson, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Frimpong, Eastmond, Miquel, Miyaichi, Ramsey, Arshavin, Walcott, van Persie Oxlade-Chamberlain, Chamakh

With my eleven would be

Szczesny, Jenkinson,Vermaelen,Koscielny, Sagna, Ramsey, Frimpong, Arshavin, Miyaichi, Walcott, van Persie

I cannot see him playing either Samir Nasri or Niklas Bendtner as they are close to leaving the club.

Liverpool will probably line up with

Reina, Kelly, Carragher, Agger, Enrique, Lucas, Adam, Kuyt, Downing, Suarez, Caroll

meaning lots of pressure aerially, but Szczesny will rule the skies!!!

Ok it’s a 12:45 kick off and squeaky bum time!

Arsene Quote

“You can question my decisions but not my loyalty to the club…”

I will allow Arsene his dignity and remind you all that as David Dein has said, we as Arsenal fans should respect Arsene Wenger for what he has accomplished at the Arsenal, but that does not mean that we should be completely in awe of the man. Many will question his decisions and come to the conclusion that in 1996 He was ahead of his time as a football coach, the problem is that in 2011, he is now falling steadily behind his competitors, and has lost his magic hat.

E.i.E

Aright me muckers? Gotta get a few jars down my neck at brekkie, cos the Scousers have tried to catch us early this week. I love playing the ‘Pool now that muppet Owen isn’t playing. Gordon Bennett, he was a pain in our Arsenal, wasn’t ‘e? Do ya remember the Millenium stadium when he broke our hearts? Then at Highbury? Oh sorry mates, if you want me to comment about King Dagleish? Nah pal, never. I’m Arsenal thru an thru, so I aint supporting no Scottish git. We are a proud English side, the Gunners. I mean we got Walcott and Wilshere and, and Eastmond and, and well a few other English blokes somewhere I think.

‘Ere Arsene, that’s what we need a little less international lah de dah, and a bit of old fashioned English put it up ‘em. I reckon we should paint the shirts on our backs and wear Halloween masks and do an Islington version of the Kiwi Haka before the Scousers kick off. Now that will scare the living out of ‘em. Whaddya thinks guys? Anyway my mate down the Dog and Goose tells me that we only have 10 fit players for the match tomorrow, so i had better go down the Emirates with my boots just in case… He’s joking aint he…? Aint he???

Cor blimey, till next week Gooners

COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!!

Ok I wasn't born and bred a Gooner, but after being in the wilderness, I saw the light and beat a track for Highbury. I have been a season ticket holder for over a decade, and now a life member of the Arsenal Supporter's trust. I hate the Scum and Man U with a passion. Formerly FTK I am co-owner of Arsenalinsider and it's chief blog writer, I can be found having a rant about all things Arsenal, and believe me, you had better listen...

We have another “child” (the young Costa Rican). What is wrong with Wenger? Even the more sensible AKBs want him to buy some proper players and he knows that. Why does he want to be fired? Is he really so stupid? I cannot understand this.

You idiot. Don’t try to teach me. I do not doubt Campbell’s potential, but the timing to bring ONLY young talents is wrong. The team/club is melting away and it will be tough to rebuild if people in general (players and managers) believe we have no ambition. Nobody cares about you and/or me. Buy the youngsters, but a few proper players as well. You teach me about football? You’re a joke. To play so many unexperienced, though talented players together against anyone, especially a Top 4 aspirant team is stupid. Do you need it serves them well to get a big beating on their debut or as a relatively fresh player? Go home and sleep.

It looks like a reserve team + a few good/better players. You know what? I’m curious how they play, but I think Wenger is very stupid. I do not doubt the potential of most of these players, but to give them such a tough start intead of blending them into the team slowly is unfair at best.

What we are witnessing is what Wenger does best….nurture and develop young talent. Its what he does best and he knows it. So now every young talent loves working for Wenger and uses Arsenal as a training ground before moving on to bigger things. If Arsenal wants to keep the likes the Cesc, Nasri, etc we have to match their footballing ambition. Winning trophies. We are no longer the force we once were. The board has indulged Wenger and his youth project and now its about to backfire. We simply can not have kids learning from kids. How can you expect them to play 30+ games…where is the experienced players to help them.

I see fault with the transfer policy and the wage policy – but I can’t blame Gazis or Wenger for letting players slip through their fingers after they’re messed about by the buying clubs and the idiotic agents of the players. Even now yje sale of Nasri is stalled because of Agents. Both clubs have agreed the deals. Nasri has agreed terms. Wenger and Gazidis can’t do any more – it’s the agents you should be ranting about.

Then we let Mata go for £17.5 million… OOPS!!!

So let him go to Chelsea???

We surely had enough cash to secure Mata as we knew Fabregas would go, and we would only be haggling over 2 million at worst.

I have no doubts that Wenger (notwithstanding his failings; mostly it’s his stubbornness regarding the “total youth project”) he could easily make the signings we need to bring back the glory times. It’s a big gamble now. Young players should learn from the experienced ones. I like all these young players, but it’s unfair to give them such a shock start.

Joel Campbell may be young but he is a full international. He played at the last CONCACAF Gold Cup and the America Cup.
The fact that people in England have not heard of him does not make him an inexperienced player.
Look at the impact that Hernandez has had on Man Utd ‘s season. Campbell could have the same impact for us.
Moreover if you look at the numbers (AST and Swiss ramble web site are good source) you would know that Arsenal are skint.
The cashflow is not there for this season.
That is why we need Barcelona payment for Fabregas before we can buy anybody. Not just for footballistic reason.
The same thing with Nasri. We need to have the payment in full because we cannot afford anybody upfront and Arsene does not like to have large future payment because that limit what he can do when emergency is required.
We did bid for Mata, however we said that we wanted to pay later. They said yes, but they screwed us by claiming that the deal has expired. The only thing that had expired was the player’s cheaper release clause but very few player are sold and bought at their buyout clause. That is why Arsenal is cross with them and now refuses to negotiate with them. As Chelsea have bid for Mata, Valencia does not care a jolt as they will extract more money from the Russian Oligarch.

The group turnover was £379.9 million as declared in May 2010
Broadcasting revenues is around £90 million
Marketing nets us around £45 million.

The net debt owed by Arsenal Football club is down to just the Stadium and that due on players a cool £147 million down from £204 million the year before.

We made £38 million from transfer sales before the deals of Fabregas and Nasri

We are cash rich to the tune of £127 million

The interest on that debt amounts now to only £22.5 million

Gazidis is the worst man for the job. He should be fired ASAP. It took him the whole summer to make a deal for Cesc (& what a poor deal it sounds). I had hoped they would have signed Mata before they let Cesc go at lot cheaper cost. He is dumbest executive i can recall. And i don’t think Wenger is going to sign Jagielka nor Cahill nor any midfielder. He is goin to settle for Per Mertasacker like he did with Cygan & a little known Jadson who i see struggling.

Not long after Gazidis was appointed I commented on the empire building that was taking place, Marketing Executives, Legal Experts and every other kind of office wallah.  I was ridiculed by, the now missing Vic Crescit, and told how every big company needed the very best of support in the office.

Well I don’t want to say I told you so but…… I told you so!.

Gazidis Knew nothing about running a football club when he arrived and what he has learned since isn’t worth knowing.

There is plenty of deadwood in the playing staff, there is apparently even more in the administration.

Unfortunately there is no-one able to sort it out, the toothless Chairman is a lick-spittle of the almost totally silent owner, while Gazidis goes his own way and has no influence on either Wenger or Wenger’s policies.

I can’t see any chance of improvement while the present ownership regime is in force.  The club must make every effort to bring Usmanov on board, by literally bringing him onto The Board.

Gazidis is useless. He nows nothing about football clubs. He ran the MLS not a club. No proper transfers in USA. I worked for major US Software companies for nearly 20years and all he does is spout Corpoate American Bullshit with a reasoned soporific voice. It doent mean anything.
His CEO he is in charge and Wengers boss. In last years statement of accounts he said his priority was getting our best players on long term contracts.
    Complete Failure.
They want to keep transfer expenditure to a mimimum to raise clubs financial performance.
Turn the heat on him and Kronke not Wenger.
