Arsenal Set To Sign Park Chu-Young

Arsenal are on the verge of signing South Korean forward Park Chu-Young.

Gunners officials have confirmed to BBC Sport, that the club will be paying £3m to AS Monaco for the 26-year old – although the figure could eventually rise to £5m.

Chu-Young is the captain of the South Korean national team, and is able to play on either wing and up front.

    Quality signing. Superior to Bendtner and Chamakh and a better free kick taker than anyone else at the club. For the fee mentioned, it’s a steal. Still some work to be done on the transfer front, but a promising start.

    Not impressed. Is he better than what we already got?. I don’t get Wenger anymore. Is this guy going to help us win something?. I am now convinced that Arsenal FC is being run like a business. The money from Nasri and Fabregas will be used to satisfy shareholders not spent on the team.

    Wenger’s stated recently that he wants to make three signings: a striker, midfielder and defender.
    With this signing hopefully we’ll be able to agree a fee for Cahill, as I’m sure his agent will push the move.
    That’ll leave the midfielder… wonder if any of the names we’ve been linked to will materialise, or will it be another out of the blue like this…?

You really know nothing about the French league (which by the way provide players to all the other leagues unlike the PL that buys them…) Now you want some stats: Rooney, except for 26 goals in 09-10, played an average of 32 games per season and scored an average of 13 goals… Hardly some world class stats… Exactly the same stats for Berbatov! Would you pay £30M+ for any of these players?

        UEFA arranges each league according to quality. With respect to your hyperbole, France is 5. That means they are not on the same level as the premier league which is 1. So if you want to ague crap do so with with UEFA coefficients.

        And what the fuck has Rooney got to do with anything. I am a gooner. Do you think all of us are stupid yes men to Wenger? Man Utds level of competition is much higher than Monaco. We are not signing Sow. Park is an average striker in an average league who doesn’t score enough goals.

          Last season the most asistance per player in monaco was only two asistances. Monaco was parks one man team. Compare the career of henry with parks. Even when henry was in monaco monaco was one of the strongest teams.

    Monaco have been poor for sometime now and his stats may not show how good he actually is because he may not have had the service. You got to remember it is not the Monaco that Wenger left in the early 90s or the one that Didier Deschamp lead to the Champions League final.

    If he is even half as good as Man Utds Park, he will be a qaulity signing. The Cahill bid was far too low as a opening bid. When Zarate played for Birmingham I always thought he was qaulity but we sit and wait.

      Teams live or die by their strikers. Thats why they are the most expensive players in football. Look at every team sheet and you will find the striker is the most expensive player in the team.

      Monaco may have been poor. But the main striker has to take his ROLE in that. Teams are relegated because their strikers are crap. That is far more likely than the rest of the team not making goals for the strikers! The idea that we have signed a player who cannot score goals in a weak league under pressure does not fill me with confidence. This is complete balls up. I would have much preferred Afobe given a chance over this mercenary. Unless we sign a great player striking/creative player like Hazard, or Kaka or Higuain we are fucked. Sorry!

    Wenger really must be taking the p**ss another pseudo winger when we need a defender. Someone else who has not played in the premier league.

    He is buying like he is preparing for the 2012-13 season. We should have paid whatever the heck they wanted for Cahill Jones etc and made a statement of intent. But he’s doing what he always does, prevaricating trying to get a “bargain” or another Henry. The most stubborn manager in the EPL.

    We are lions led by a donkey.

    This has to be his last season it’s way beyond a joke or a tragedy it’s comical.

      Without wenger Arsenal wouldnt even not have gotten into champions league for 14 years,without wenger arsenal would be a MID TABLED  premier league club.I know were not exactly doing well at the moment and yeah,some of that is down to wenger,however the players have to take some of the blame for the last few seasons,most of all  the biggest blame lies with the board.

    i dont know much about this player but that doesnt mean he is crap, if anybody can make a player into a world class player then its a manger like arsene wenger, people forget the legend Thierry Henry came to us and he was a very much unknown player and from the french league, so if anyone can get the best out of a player its Mr Wenger :)

          Thierry Henry was a world cup winning French international when he came to arsenal. Let’s not pretend that Wenger unearthed some unknown gem, he turned a very good player (who cost £13M) into an exellent one

            Exactly. Wenger knew Henry pretty well before he even came to Arsenal. The same cannot be said of any of the new signings. It’s down to the scouts to get us top players now. Signing ANYONE will strengthen the squad but where are the big players? Where are the big names that will inspire this team to victory? We have no iconic players anymore. Back to square one. Wenger’s successor will be left a team way worse than what Wenger inherited.

            What bollocks! Wenger unearthed Henry as a youth and gave him a chance when he was manager at Monaco. He was then getting wasted as a left winger at Juventus before Wenger brought him to Arsenal and made him a striker.

    the reason he’s signing another striker is because chamakh and gervinho to the african cup soon, dont jump to conclusions. Been watching park since he was at fc seoul and he’s a goal machine, a work horse, fast, can play in multiple positions and take set pieces and score from headers. Surprised no one signed hi a few years ago. just chill out he’ll be a great help this season

    wenger has balls things up a bit, but he’s also trying to swim against the tide. the worst thing for football will be if man city win the league. will just cement the fact that you can buy a trophy with no regard for the future of the sport. at least arsene is trying to keep to the premise that young players can develop and become world class. Problem is that every single player is Too young and a bit soft. Just need a few rough older players who dont mind doing the shitty jobs in midfield and defence. not as bad as it looks, one more season and we might be back on track depending how he handles the coming season
