Mertesacker To Have Medical At Arsenal

Arsenal are on the verge of signing German centre back, Per Mertesacker.

The 26-year old flew into London today for a medical, and looks set to complete the switch that will see him leave Werder Bremen in a deal worth around £10m.

Mertesacker, who was captain of the Bundesliga side, stands at a whopping 6 ft 6 is and would add strength, height and experience to Arsene Wenger’s side.

I'm 20 and have been an Arsenal season ticket holder since 2006. My family has had Arsenal links since the 1920's, and the support is still going strong. I am at every home game, and also manage to get to multiple away games, when I can. I have been writing for various blogs and websites since I was 15, but have now settled down and have become a regular writer for Arsenalinsider. I also run my own Pro Evolution Soccer blog, Only Pro Evolutions. Arsenal is my passion. Writing is my passion. I was never good enough to play for The Arsenal, so I'll do the next best thing!

Can’t trust that Wenger goat until i see the player on the pitch with our colours.Even then,Met is a slow player and i have seen ferries turn faster but experienced and would go well alongside Koscielny…..All this should have happened long time ago.I can’t see the benefit of getting players at the last moment…..How i wish we could land Pappis Demba Cisse for a killer striker?

You can do it mate. Just get a copy of Football Manager. I’ve been very critical with Wenger, but he’s doing the right thing now so I’m happy and don’t moan. I can’t believe that some people behave like that when it should be a happy moment at last.

While I am sincerely hoping and praying that Arsenal bring in the required squad reinforcements, I completely disgree that this is all Wenger’s fault. As far as I am concerned, all roads lead to the Board of Directors at Arsenal for not sorting out the wage cap issues and as a result have made it impossible for Arsene to bring new players in of the calibre and quality that we need to win major competitions.

Frankly with all the restrictions and constraints, I can see no other manager doing better than what arsene is achieving. Yes there have been  mistakes along the way by Arsene, in particular not taking the carling cup seriously enough in prior years because if Arsenal had at least won this competition, there would be less ammunition thrown at Arsenal about a “trophy drought”.
Arsene’s only options are to stay at arsenal with all the restrictions placed on him by the Board in terms of not being able to attract quality players; or

Walk Away. No other manager would have stuck to his job and shown the commitment that Arsene has.

Do the Board get held accountable for what their responsibility is… NO. But instead Arsene becomes the fall guy for the Board’s failures. I guess it is a case of live by the sword/die by the sword.

All that Arsenal have now is to use up hundreds of millions to build a squad if Arsene walks away, or is forced to walk away. We will become the next Chelsea/Man City  ie using billionaire funds to buy trophies which seems to be the only way left for us as a club which is a real shame.

Couldn’t have put it better myself MP, at last someone who thinks as I do.
Wenger has been hung out to dry by Hill Wood & Gazidis.
A shame David Dein is no longer involved.

I sincerely hope that the deal will be completed. We must stand behind Arsene Wenger. In all honesty, 8-2 was a freak result. In every organisation, when key personnel leaves the company, there will be a period of adjustment. After the adjustment, the company can only get stronger. Cesc is Spanish and it is understandable that he wants to go home. Nasri, despite what he says, left Arsenal for a bigger pay cheque. That is also understandable but he must not insult Arsenal the Club by implying that the Club is not going to win trophies. No matter what, the Club is bigger than any player, manager or supporter.

Edgems4, people say the same about John Terry but he manages to do pretty well for the Chavs. Hopefully he’s a decent organiser as when Vermaelen isn’t there we don’t have anyone that takes charge. We might even win a few headers at corners and score a few set piece goals with his height.

at least his first two buys are defenders.. would have preferred Jagielka who can command the back line.. but let’s hope he gets M’villa or Parker before things close down..
