Arsene Wenger Still Best Man For Arsenal Job

Good afternoon, readers. It’s been a while…

Sorry for the recent lack of inactivity. Generally, life has thrown me some rather challenging obstacles lately and in turn, I’ve had to deal with them accordingly. Everything seems to be back on track now, and it seems that normal service can finally resume, once again.

A lot has happened since I last posted, but none of which that I have any desire to talk about. We all know the problems currently surrounding Arsenal Football Club. You’d be a fool to suggest that everything is fine in the Gunners camp. After such a devastating start to a Premier League campaign, as fans, it appears we have a long season ahead of us.

Recently, some fans have voiced their opinions, stating that they believe Arsene Wenger should walk. As I write this, I still believe that this is not the solution.

Like I’ve always said, as long as I believe Arsene Wenger is the best man to run our club, I will remain to disagree with anyone who says that Wenger should go.

Well and truly, there’s no doubt that his best days are in the past now. The memories of The Invincibles will never cease to exist, but sadly, no one is able to escape the fact that those memories are edging further and further away over the horizon.

As a fair football fan, I always respect the opinions of fellow supporters, even if I disagree with the points of views that are raised – even with the recent shouts suggesting that we’d be better off without Arsene Wenger at the Arsenal helm.

I can understand where these people are coming from, I really do. They’re frustrated, they are lacking answers and most importantly, these people are seeing their hard-earned cash go strait down the drain after a disappointing, but ever-increasingly predictable day out following The Arsenal.

Fans should always show continued support for their team, no matter how bad things are going. Alternatively, it’s only natural, and totally understandable to see some fans express their frustrations in the public eye.

When people state that Wenger should go, it seems no one can ever come up with a realistic replacement. Most of which actually reply with “er, I don’t know….. But Wenger should definitely be sacked!“.

Some have proposed that Jose Mourinho or Pep Guardiola could come in and takeover from Arsene Wenger. There’s no doubt that the duo belong to the elite core of the best managers in the world.

However, I’ll tell you now that these two wouldn’t be able to sort out our problems.

Excluding his days at Porto, Mourinho has had to spend  hundreds of millions to achieve his own success, while Guardiola was fortunate enough to inherit the best footballing side in the world. I can’t think of too many managers who would fail to win La Liga with a squad as good as the current Barcelona side.

Moving back closer to home, it’s clear that Arsenal are the unluckiest side around at the moment, mainly due to poor decisions from officials and an obvious lack of luck.

Of course, our own players have been the cause of some of our recent problems, and before you jump to any hasty conclusions, I’m not “blaming the ref” for our poor start to this year’s campaign.

I will save you the trouble and avoid going into too much detail, but the performance from Andre Marriner and his team at Ewood Park was an absolute joke.

On another day, or another stadium (Old Trafford perhaps?), Yakubu’s 2nd would have rightly been ruled out, Martin Olsson would have been sent off for a second yellow card after that disgusting dive, and Theo Walcott would have been awarded a last minute penalty, after clearly being brought down by Blackburn ‘keeper, Paul Robinson.

At the end of the day, there’s nothing you can do when things like this go against you. Even Manchester City aren’t able to invest in serendipity. Like we all saw on Saturday, you are completely helpless when luck decides to go against you.

Moving on, before I start to sound like a bitter sore loser…

With just over 24 hours until our Carling Cup tie kicks off against Shrewsbury, the confidence in the side is terribly low – even lower than our current league position. Jokes aside, let’s hope the boys, whoever is given a starting role, can perform and deliver us with progression to the next round.

I will not be going tomorrow night. The last time I missed an Arsenal home game was when we played Bolton last year, when I made the decision to stand on the Wembley pitch, and watch a much more convincing performance from the world’s greatest band, Muse .

As someone who believes it would be utterly catastrophic if Arsene Wenger were to go, I really hope that his time is not running out.

I'm 20 and have been an Arsenal season ticket holder since 2006. My family has had Arsenal links since the 1920's, and the support is still going strong. I am at every home game, and also manage to get to multiple away games, when I can.

I have been writing for various blogs and websites since I was 15, but have now settled down and have become a regular writer for Arsenalinsider. I also run my own Pro Evolution Soccer blog, Only Pro Evolutions.

Arsenal is my passion. Writing is my passion. I was never good enough to play for The Arsenal, so I'll do the next best thing!

It is like a Roller Coaster ride on here, it takes approximately 48 hours for the storm to settle and everyone to be back behind Wenger again.
Please have some consistency for or against but just have some bloody consistency.

Well I for one am not behind Wenger.  He and the board have a lot to answer for and I am cetainly not about to come out with idiotic comments like it was ‘the ref’s’ fault that we lost to Blackburn on Saturday.  We lost because we CANNOT defend.  We lost because our defence had NO cover from the midfield.  We lost because we always panic when a team comes onto us.  We lost beacuse the entire team feels it better to close down an opposing player from the edge of our own box instead off halfway up the park.  we lost because we have no leadership on the park and absolutely none from the man in charge.  We are in trouble and that is down to wenger.  So yes i feel we’d be better off without him.  Oh, and please take silenT Stan and the rest of the board with you, Arsen.

Yes, yes joskin time to start pointing fingers.  That’s always so helpful.

If you want to be honest, you will recognize that arsenal lost literally becasue of two OGs and and offside goal.

        Grow up lad, really.

Two own goals and an offside goal?  Oh, for heavens sake, with opinions like that we really are going down.  We are awful, man, can’t you see that?  Any leader, be it at work, in the military or in sport, must be able to adapt to his environment when things are going wrong.  Wenger cannot or will not do that.  What’s happening now has been building up for the last few seasons, it hasn’t just happened.  Arsenal’s weaknesses have been there for all to see…unless your name is Wenger.  Things have to change and they have to change FAST.  If Wenger cannot bring himself to do it then let someone else have a go.  Results don’t lie.  You can blame refs all you like but the fundamental fact is we have been truly AWFUL.  Three defeats in five whilst conceding fourteen goals along the way is relegation form.  I don’t honestly believe that we’ll go down but this season is going to be an almighty struggle if things don’t change.

Both OG’s were down to poor defending and all refs make mistakes just like the ones that go for you.
You get mugged off for another 6% only for the board to pocket more money from player sales, three of your best players at that, and to buy cast offs and more “hopefuls”.

i think wenger should be given more time but i have to disagree with your comment on the officials on Saturday. i thought they did a decent job, you will most certainly lose any match in which you score 2 own goals. we need a new defensive coach and we need David Dein…Wenger needs someone to answer to, doesn’t seem like he’s got any at the moment

More time? How much more does he deserve for 6 million a year?

He is not some nice old “professor” PE teacher who coaches us put of the goodness of his heart, he gets 6 million slackers and delivers relegation form.

We are regularly losing to teams with a fraction of our resources because he can’t motivate a team out of a paper bag. Not acceptable.

We are heading for top 10 at best. Enough.

In any real world job he would have been gone year ago.

This is just silly. There are plenty of other managers. Ancelotti for one, but I’m not paid to do the research for Ivan. How can you look at the state of the club and say he should stay, based on what? What he did 9 years ago?

I mean should we keep Qaddafi because he has been around a long time and I can’t off the top of my bead name a new President? Come on.

First off we need to agree he is finished, players can’t really truly believe in Wenger after the endless fiascos of the last 2-3 seasons. You don’t come back from 8-2 as a manager.

This is a man who was sending out Almunia and Fabianski in goal for about 3 seasons and refused to spill 7/8 mill on a world class goalkeeper. That’s
reason enough to fire him there, inexcusable. Almunia alone cost us at least six points last season probably more. And he is a stubborn old fool who won’t admit he needs a defensive coach.

Once we start looking we will figure the way ahead and who should replace
him. It’s a big football world out there with lots of managers. By the way no one had even heard of Wenger when he was hired and people were making your argument for Graham.

So let me finish on this question: what would be enough for you to think Wenger could go? If you can’t identify a threshold — eg being unable to be break into the top four by say January–then you don’t have an analysis you
    have an addiction to Wenger.

By end of November if we’re in this mess he should be sacked.   But it is no use just sacking him.  Gazidis should also go.    30th Nov is the key date.

Leonardo is Director of football at Paris SG, I’m sure he would like to manage again and before someone says he is not good enough give me a break.

It will be a brave soul who takes on this broken mess of our team and could be a career killer for them. So dream on about special one, he would never come here.

This is a bad patch we are going thru.. yes if we were Chelsea & QPR we would be changing managers every other day. But, if you do wanna see Wenger go, the first person whom you should argue against is your pal Ivan ‘the horrible’ Gazidis. This bloke needs to be FIRED ASAP. I don’t know where they got this guys but his rein has been awful at best. From negotiating players contracts, to friendlies, to club marketing. The only thing he is gud at is raising the ticket price & getting paychecks. Just Get the prick out.

Why would you want a special one.. the special one is stuck in his own mess in Real & he’s got the best players still no result for two years. And he deserves it.

Having signed the players so late, the back four certainly needs time to gel but it is through these mistakes that they will improve. I for one certainly like the notion of getting a defense coach & see Wenger at the helm. Btw, I hope Wenger gives these players a hairdryer treatment instead of kicking the bottles.

Arsenal are rubbish because Wenger has not bought the players he should have for the past five years. Because he is a terrible judge of character, and seems not to be able to inspire loyalty in his players. Which is partly because he sacrifices their careers at the altar of his ‘principles’. His principles have won nothing. At Monaco, his successful teams were old (ave age about 28). And those players were so loyal, some of them took bribes from Marseille. The last season at Monaco, the big players, (George Weah), left because they knew they wouldn’t win as Wenger had only a squad of unready kids, who then lost their first five games, and ended up ninth, when he was rightly sacked. Oh and he doesn’t believe that defending is part of football. He is delusional, and if you think that he’s the man for the job, you’re delusional too. Good call on the evangelists Tommym. Because that’s what it is. Although I prefer the comparison to The Emperor’s New Clothes.

      Very interesting.

If I could speak to Wenger I would say look, every game from now on you just diminish your legacy and believe me it’s much diminished. Quit now and you may be remembered as the great Arsenal manager, but continue for another season and you will be the example of what not to become the early glory, and long sad stubborn decline to absolute failure of a manager who wouldn’t listen or change his ways.

Perhaps “Wengered” should enter the football vocabulary for this
      phenomenon.
