Hello Julies was that the needed spoonful of sugar to help ease the pain of last Saturday’s performance, or a bit of salt in the wound.  Permit me to offer a little remedy, but before I do so, it is necessary to identify the sickness:

A wonderful quality about Mr. Wenger is that he is very loyal.  He has assembled a coaching team around him to which he is at ease with and come storm or high waters, he will watch their backs even when they are not delivering the desired results.  But this reflects a major weakness in his management style, “the FEAR of change”.  But FAILURE he/they should regard as the greater enemy.

What he has to consider is the fact his team have not provided the desired results in several seasons.  If they were in a junior division that might be acceptable as it would almost go unnoticed.  But when those around you (clubs) are making progress and you cannot match them by bringing in a ready-made elite squad (meaning proven world class players) the next best thing is to provide your squad with the very best coaches and coaching methods available.  When it comes to ACCOUNTABILITY, he alone (Mr. Wenger) has to carry the can, by taking the rap for everything that goes wrong on the pitch.  The men around him will move unto another job, or retire, but the blame/shame will rest on his head.

We don’t like to see people getting the sack for the sake of it, but when your team is not functioning, know for certain they are not adequately equip to meet the challenges of an ever changing and progressing sport.

It really ought to be a major embarrassment for any coach to witness the catastrophe each season and not feel a sense of guilt and responsibility.  The continuous poor performances is evidence that people are not doing their jobs well and they lack the necessary knowledge & skills to turn it around.

Now is Steve Bould the man-for-the-job?

I think not, despite our philosophy of internal promotion, (Jobs for the boys). Why do I say that?  I have to look at the performances of the team Steve Bold is currently managing and the area he ought to be particularly strong at (DEFENCE) there is a major weakness.  George Graham’s techiniques might be recommended, however, that spells  a remedy for disaster in the near horizon.

Arsenal has scouted the world for WonderKids, why not approach the post with the same scrutiny.  Personally, I would offer a short term contract to Keown while applications is taken up, he can also throw his hat in the ring.  After two weeks one can tell if he is man-for-the-job!  Factural evidence is what we desperately lack….  If I were the man at the top, I would look at what the coaches of the women’s team is doing and compare it with the men’s squad.  Why?  The Result.

You are right about AW. I absolutely LOVE his loyalty to our club and respect him for everything he has done for us. His fault is that he ‘s stubborn and tries to protect the players around him that don’t always return that loyalty. He is the one who then has to shoulder the blame.

I didn’t think Keown was able to be part of the team? That’s why I didn’t suggest him. TA is also unlikely to ever come back to AFC as a result of a disagreement a few years ago.

I just hope that we sort it out and fast. If we can work a good defence, then we will have a team capable of winning trophies, as the midfield and forwards are more than adequate.
