Wenger will battle Madrid to take Hazard to Arsenal

Arsene Wenger faces a battle with Real Madrid next summer over the capture of teenage Lille forward Eden Hazard.

That’s the claim in the Mirror this morning which says Madrid director of football Zinedine Zidane has also put Hazard at the top of his hit-list

As for tonight’s CL game against Olympiakos at the Ems, we will now be missing Laurent Koscielny, Theo Walcott and Gervinho – so Alex Song will partner Per Mertesacker in central defence.

Elsewhere AW has given the Mail an update on Jack Wilshere’s injury. He said: “He will be 12 weeks in a boot and after that it is rehab. Twelve weeks brings us to around Christmas. If all goes well, you would think he will be fit again to play in half the time you are in the boot – six weeks. Count 10 to be closer to the truth, so it’s 22 weeks.”

He was asked if he regreted taking Wilshere on Arsenal’s pre-season tour of Malaysia and China and replied: “We made a scan before we left and it was all right. This crack in the bone became worse and worse. It didn’t heal because there is no blood supply so it doesn’t glue together any more. We had to put a screw in.

When you see the scan it looks like a little hole in the bone. We needed to screw that together because it would not heal. When he was in the boot it did not get better, it can be worse.”

The Metro, meanwhile, claims AW has tried to play down fears over skipper Robin Van Persie’s contract situation, but hinted the Dutchman is stalling over signing a new deal.

If madrid want him, they will get him over us. time to face reality JIN. We can’t compete with them on any front.

Agree it’s annoying for the papers to keep re hashing old stories but
that doesn’t really matter. The fact is, Madrid want him and he wants
Madrid (or Barca). He has said he wants to play for one of the spanish
    giants.
The best we can hope for is a Nasri situation where he will give us 1 or
2 seasons to prove himself so he can move to Madrid. But I expect he
has already proven himself enough for Madrid to go straight in for him
at the end of this season.

Ridiculous story and absolutely no chance of happening..it would be stupid if Chelsea or Man United went in for him with Madrid being a viable destination and they pay twice what Arsenal do…players like Arteta and Santos are at the Emirates for a reason and that is people like Hazard are out of their range now, which is also why Van Persie is pondering on a new deal..this is all the boards bloody fault and AW is getting pelters because of it ! feel for the guy to be honest .

I agree the board have to take a large amount of blame. But since we have no idea who makes what decisions, we can’t possibly say that one party is at fault and another is not.

For example, the reason we don’t pay huge transfer fees is not because the funds aren’t available, its because the players that would demand that kind of transfer fee will also demand high wages and it is this that we refuse to pay. So who is it at the club who deceides on the wage structure. Its anybody’s guess really and only the people at the top of the club know for sure.

If we could get hazard on 90k a week, we would have no trouble in paying the transfer fee. But we can’t. He will probably want almost double that. And he will get it elsewhere.

The other thing is that if Arsene was being forced into this situation by his bosses, with the amount of stick he is taking and the stress he is so obviously under, why does he not resign? If he doesn’t have the (financial) support of the board and CEO, what is he still doing at the club?

Either he has decided to pick up his £6 million a year, accept a small budget and settle for fourth place in the league and nothing more.

Or more likely in my opinion, is that he is heavily involved in many of the decisions about the budget and is therefore as much to blame as the board.

But again, these are just (educated) guesses because no one knows who makes what decisions. It’s not even clear to me whether Arsene has more power than Gazidis or not!

That all makes perfect sense to me, so what is this ‘killer’ show of loyalty that Wenger keeps mentioning and will divulge on his retirement from the game ?
It does seem strange, as you say if he was that peeved with it all he would have gone, is Wenger possibly being paid ‘financial linked’ bonuses at Arsenal to bring him in line with some of the lucrative offers he has no doubt received from abroad ? ie..make us a killing in the transfer market Arsene and you are safe for life with a percentage of it ? it would explain why 4th is good (wengers words) and the money men are all gathered patting each other on the back, of which AW seems to be very much a part of given recent camera shots of him in stands etc !..something at Arsenal is very fishy indeed, they are too big, too experienced and too well oiled to not have this in hand, but right now they are appearing to flirt with danger.

          again thats all speculation. The only thing that is for sure is that we will only find out the truth after either;
          1) Wenger leaves and a new manager comes in with a more normal relationship with the board, or
          2) the board are sacked by a new owner and we see what Arsene really wants with the club and how he wants the club to operate.

Either way it won’t happen soon enough and it doesn’t excuse the manager from the fact that even with the current group of players, he should be getting better results than we are.

It doesn’t excuse him from the fact that he has been unable to instill enough self belief and/or leadership in the squad that would enable us to finish a season without collapsing and that we cannot win big games eg cc final, cl final, cl second legs.

It doesn’t excuse him from the fact that we don’t seem to have any tactics and don’t seem to adjust our play depending on the opposition. If you’re the best team in the world then that’s fine but we aren’t, so when we play the likes of Man u and Barca we have to “play the opposition” not “play our own game and hope it’s enough”.

And it doesn’t excuse the fact that we are defensively naive at best and disorganised and tactically unaware at worst. And from recent performances, it is more likely the latter.

None of us know the truth of the matter, speculation is profitless but we all have our own opinions.  In my view Wenger is sticking to his principles in that he has never broken a contract, his words.

I feel that he will stay until at least the end of his present term, beyond that is problematical.  Recently he has made veiled public comments about transfer matters and about the functioning of the Chief Executive’s office.  The relationship between him and Gazidis seems to be breaking down, all of which indicates that a contract renewal is unlikely.

One other reason why he will not walk away is the amount of time and effort he personally has invested in the whole project, nobody will ever be able to say that Wenger was a quitter.

Bigsy, something is wrong at Arsenal and I believe that has to do with the total lack of trust between Silent Stan and Usmanov.  I fear that nobody at Arsenal has the footballing knowledge required to appoint the correct successor.  David Dean is very sorely missed.

Generally speculation is pointless yes. But, we can only speculate to try and come up with the most probable situation and then the best solution.

If current form continues then the fans will protest more and more and could hound Wenger out of the club. This may be a good thing and it might be just what we need. I happen to think it is. But i am just as likely to be wrong and it might actually be the board who are leading the club in terms of strategy and not Wenger and a better thing might be that they were gone and Arsene stays. In which case it would be a mistake for the fans to turn on Wenger.

Alternatively a new board with Arsene still in charge might change nothing if it really is his ideas that are running the club.

Not sure why stan and usmanov are such enemies. They both have a mutual friend in David Dein who is not officially linked to either of them by the way!
