Now we lose to the scum!!

Arsene Wenger’s 15th anniversary as Arsenal manager was marked by a 2-1 Premier League defeat to Tottenham at White Hart Lane that provided further proof the Frenchman is facing the most troubling period of his reign.

The defeat, sealed by a long-range effort fromKyle Walker that Wojciech Szczesny should have saved, was characterised yet again by some desperate defending from the Gunners, who now have only seven points from their opening seven games of what has proved a demoralising season. It is their lowest points tally at this stage of a campaign for 36 years.

The Gunners fell behind after 40 minutes whenRafael van der Vaart scored for the fourth time in a North London derby, though there was a hint of handball as he pulled down a pass from former Arsenal man Emmanuel Adebayor.

Arsenal responded after half-time when Aaron Ramsey equalised from close range but the defensive vulnerability that has characterised their season to date did not leave them at White Hart Lane, even if Szczesny was an undeserved victim when allowing Walker’s shot to sneak past him.

The result takes Spurs into sixth place and five points ahead of their great rivals with a game in hand. Arsenal remain stuck in 15th after losing their fourth game of the season.

Wenger’s 15-year service at Arsenal – which was reached on Friday – contained a record against Spurs that read only four defeats in 36 games in all competitions, but at no point in his reign have the sides been as closely matched as they are now. That much was reflected in the fact that for the first time Spurs were made pre-match favourites to beat the Gunners in a Premier League match.

The narrowing in the disparity in quality between the two teams is as much due to a slump in Arsenal’s stock in recent seasons as improvement up the Seven Sisters Road, and a team that is conceding on average two goals a game demonstrated again on Sunday that the art of defending is one that eludes them at present.

Szczesny was called into action after only seven minutes when Scott Parker collected a pass from Van der Vaart and toe-poked an effort that the Polish goalkeeper spread himself to save. Though Arsenal enjoyed a decent slice of possession, they saw Ramsey give the ball away repeatedly and one such lapse resulted in Gareth Bale crossing for Van der Vaart, who scooped the ball over the bar.

The Dutchman, booked for a late challenge on Kieran Gibbs, then took advantage of some inattentive defending from Ramsey as he escaped the Welshman in the box to meet a cross from Jermain Defoe with an intuitive flick with the outside of the boot that Szczesny saved once again.

Arsenal’s best chance of the half came just before the half hour mark when Robin van Persie darted away from Younes Kaboul and pulled the ball back for Gervinho. Arriving in the box, the Ivorian only had to slot the ball home but dragged his shot wide. Wenger was apoplectic on the touchline.

Despite an assured performance from Mikel Arteta and a promising display from Francis Coquelin, making only his second league start after the 8-2 hammering at Old Trafford, Arsenal were unable to take control of the tie and when Spurs did break through the midfield they found the Arsenal defence all too welcoming.

Certainly Van der Vaart was in too much space when collecting Adebayor’s neat lofted ball after 40 minutes and withBacary Sagna at fault when failing to be strong in the challenge, the Dutchman dispatched a shot back across goal and past Szczesny for the lead.

Van der Vaart did appear to control the ball with the very top of his left arm or his chest while pulling it down, and the moment was lent further controversy when Van der Vaart ran to the Tottenham fans and leant into them as they celebrated. A more judicious referee could have deemed either offence as a second yellow card.

Bale had time to send a ferocious bending effort narrowly wide and the Welshman resumed the second half in similar fashion when lashing a shot over the bar from 25 yards.

However, it was international team-mate Ramsey who shrugged off his poor first-half performance to leave his mark on the game. The midfielder was left all alone at the near post as Song burst down the left and he met the cross from theCameroon international with an emphatic finish high into the net to make it 1-1.

Arsenal had improved markedly after the break but their defensive vulnerability never escaped them and Spurs tore them apart too easily on 58 minutes when Van der Vaart and Bale combined to set Adebayor free. One-on-one against the club that helped him forge a career in England, the striker was denied by a brilliant save by Szczesny as the Pole flung out his left arm to stop the low effort.

With Spurs threatening sporadically to break through Arsenal’s backline, the visiting side were dealt a real blow after 67 minutes when Sagna landed badly on his ankle and had to be replaced by Carl Jenkinson. The France international was taken off on a stretcher, suggesting the club have another injury to concern their overworked medical staff.

Just as it had against Blackburn, Sagna’s removal precipitated a defensive lapse. Arsenal switched off from a throw in and although Song blocked from Luka Modric’s shot, the ball rolled into the path of Walker who rifled home a fierce effort from 30 yards. The young right-back hit it well but Szczesny should have got more than a finger to the saveable effort.

Spurs could have made it 3-1 soon after as Song and Per Mertesacker incredibly let a high ball bounce between them. Bale simply ran on to the ball but failed to punish the shocking piece of defending when poking the ball wide of the post.

Bale then teed up Defoe for a decent effort that forced a good save from Szczesny, while Modric went close when slamming a shot into the side netting. Such was Arsenal’s desperation, they sent Mertesacker up front in the closing stages, but they could not avoid another damaging defeat.

I still want AW manage the team while.. AW is really too stubborn. Since the first game of this season, the midfield line is not effective and match results were no good. I would think most of managers would try to change. However, AW is still using the same patch of players (if they are available), same style and same formation. Many said AW spend a lot of time reading match statistic and video, why he still use Ramsey as starter almost every game but not try to use 4-4-2 or use Arteta as AM and Song and Coquelin or Frimpong as holding midfield.

He has spent two years to decide to drop Delison and Almunia. How much time he need to temp drop Ramsey. I do agree he may have potential, but his performance and stat told us he is not worth to be starter. Instead, AOC had very good and solid performance in the last match and U21 match. Everyone is looking forward to see his impact on today match. Why he is even not worth to be a bench player. Not ever Ryo Miyaich has chance to prove his impact as well.

Hope AW can change. My no thanks name now is Benayoun, Ramsey and Rosicky.

Watching the game it struck me how well Coquelin played, but as far as the midfield went that was it. Ramsey was awful and gave the ball away far too many times. He will be a star, but theres too much on his shoulders. Arteta seemed a yard too slow, the midfield simply are not good enough. Mertersacker looks like he is getting better, be great when TV is back, but we should have invested in Cahill. If Wengers going to insist on 4-3-3 I would like to to see 2 defensive midfielders in front of the back 4. Get a tough midfielder M’vila would be good. This is dreadful, we will get better but the quality isnt there.

what makes you think we will get better? We have been in decline for about 5 or 6 years now. Slowly but surely the top class players have been leaving and being replced by cheaper players who aren’t as good or youngsters who haven’t developed into good players because they have no onoe at the club to learn from.

Arsenal fans need to stick together and change their expectations. Could someone tell me how it is Wenger’s fault that Chelski is bankrolled by a billionaire and Ashley Coal goes for more money……

Could someone tell me how it is Wenger’s fault that Mancity can buy anybody, since they are also bank rolled which allows them to take Nasri……..

Could someone tell me how it is Wenger’s fault that Cesctakes a pay cut to go to Barca to win things after we didnt win anything for 6 years……….

    That said you can point the finger at the following;

    (1) Why hasnt our defensive problems not been addressed over the last 6 years;

    (2) Why have a policy where our crop of players earn more than our double winners, just to keep all the players happy……

We Arsenal fans need to lower our expectations as we cant compete at the moment…… Its fundamentally wrong that success in sport can be bought…..

Jacks been injured and its an injury everyone knew of, Wenger insisted a busy window to strengthen our team but now it looks like it was to boost the boards pockets. the team of transition we kept hearing about has totally crumbled.  We have a long road to go down.  we can’t sign any players til january, I dont want a new manager maybe a new board but arsene is the man for the job and is the only one who can get us out of the hole.

The stadium move has had a longer effect than we thought and obviously wenger does not get enough control over being able to buy bigger stars as he said in the summer there about 20 people at the club involved which is why we ended up with trash like arteta, mertasacker and santos, park hasnt even played yet, he must be weak.

There is no quick fix solution for this mess atm.  Getting rid of wenger is pure BS.
I think he needs to teach these boys about heart, desire and dedication as there was none today, but i think wenger needs these defeats to be able to teach them about that.  Maybe losing so bad this season is what these youngsters need as they were hanging on the coat tails of mediocre success with fabregas, nasri and rvp the last few seasons…these boys are going to have to earn the CL place this season…and hope rvp stays in the summer…he is the only one that deserves the badge atm but he can’t do it all by himself i just hope he hasnt realised that he is the only one doing the biz atm even though he didnt score today he has 21 in 24 pl games…keeping him and getting this team to learn how to fight is going to be wengers toughest challenge yet.

But if Wenger is the man to get us out of this hole what is he going to do differently?  The man will never change his mind, he’ll never admit he’s wrong and he will never change his tactics.  He reminds me of General Custer at the Little Big Horn, even after his body was prickling with arrows he was still convinced that he was going to win that battle!  I was still behind Wenger at the start of the season, even after the Nasri and Fabregas debacles.  Then came that 8-2 humiliation at Man U and the panic buys on deadline day.  I knew then that Wenger had had his day.  What worries me is that he STILL thinks he can bring back the glory days by persevering with gung ho tactics, no defence and players like JD, Koshelney, Jenkinson, Mertisucker, Gibbs, Chamack, Arshavin and the like.
Whatch out for those arrows Arsen!

Finally the Wenger lovers have little to say they are waking up from the matrix, welcome to the real world: Wenger is a useless old donkey and our team is mediocre!

Every defeat undermines their confidence more, the only way is a fresh start. It’s been this way for about three seasons – do you Wenger lickers get it yet? This is a sinking ship.

you can’t blame Chelsea or man City and money for our inability to beat lesser and poorer teams like west Brom or giving up 4 goal leads. That’s bloody Wenger’s fault. We can lose to the top four and win the league but now we can’t beat teams with a fraction of our resources. There is no excuse for that.

Our only hope is that Kroenke is seeing the value of the Arsenal brand that he wanted to leverage around the world and his investment dwindling. Business is business, money talks. And Kroenke is not a guy who likes to lose.

I’m betting he has people starting to look for Wengers successor perhaps at
    Christmas but certainly by May.

Wenger maybe defiant but his strategy aint working. As usual the defnce goes missing. The gunners are thier own enemies. They try to weav a way through the Spurs defence by passing in front of the Spurs defence. When the ball is lost/mis passedor placed, there will be acres if not sq miles of space.
When Defoe shot ,he had time and space. Luckily the gk parried the shot.
Wenger is deluded if he thinks his strategy will come good but this is wishful thinking. He may have been given a ringing endorsemnet by the American boss, but unless results improve he could be out. No one is indispensable, not even the red faced. As to where Wenger’s heir can be found, there are many who are just a phone call away.
Ine defeat doesn’t mean Wenger should get the axe but ,imho,he has until mid Dec.Jan to get the gunners climbing the table. otherwise I dread contempling the consequneces of a long winless run.

We just like you have our main creator missing  Huddlestone you have  Whiltshire and fast winger Oxygen Chamber missing we have Lennon and Townsend. Wenger played five men in midfield and this nullified our attack Lennon would have give us more space and Huddlestone more by unleashing his long passes too Ady Whiltshire and the exciting Oxy and Townsend  will give our future games more thrills its not all gloom at the Arsenal  and both teams have bright futures if the vultures keep away with Oil money we are paying a fortune for at the pumps. He thinks he can play like Barcelona. The Spanish is the near equivalent of the Scottish league. When Barca play any mid table or top five team they can be expected to win.So uncompetitive has it become.

Don’t disagree with you, apart from what you say about Barca seeming so good because of their opposition. Did you see them tear apart Man U last year in the champions league?! They really are that good. Arsenal currently cannot win playing like Barca because they are not as good as Barca. Plus saying Barca don’t defend well is ridiculous. They work so hard as a team to get possession back when they lose it, it is amazing to watch. And no I am not a Barcelona fan, just a realist!

When Arsenal drew Mu in the cl,the red faced cunt rubbed his hands in glee.He said he knew how the gunners played and still play today. It was and is not surprising Ronaldo and company won comfortably. Why?The gunners leave ahdl and with eight to nine gunners besieging the Spurs goal,it is not surprising the white scum have acres of space and time. Defoe nearly scored.
Now the gunners have been playing the same way. It is meerily passing ,passin, passing in frontof the Spurs goal. Hardly surprising RVp was closely shadowed.
Wenger has to change tactically otherwise the gunners could continue to struggle. At one Feb echoed him by saying teams come to teh ES playing anti soccer . Well if it can help you win games ,why not.
The Fm better note no one is immune to the axe despit evotes of confidence. This is on condition results improve.

What should worry Arsenal fans is that when Spurs were below par and Arsenal was improving, Spurs were still the better side and won. It was interesting that the neutrals I saw or heard today all seemed to think that Spurs were better but Wenger genuinely seemed to think otherwise. That worries me; it makes me think that he’s now living in an optimistic bubble, assuming that it will all get better soon. Arsenal will improve, it will finish sixth but that’s outside Europe completely so it needs to win the League Cup.

Spurs were nowhere near their best and still won deservedly. That should be the most worrying thing for goons. Arsenal had some posession but did nothing with it, all the best chances fell to Spurs. The fact of the matter is that Arsenal sold world class players such as cesc and nasri and replaced them with ok panic buy players! when you look at the squads pretty much every Spurs player would be in Arsenals, as for first teams can only really see 2-3 getting in to Spurs first team, whereas BAE,Gallas,Kaboul,King,Modric,Parker,Sandro,Bale,EA at least would improve aqnd get in to goons. Only goons get in Spurs would be maybe their keeper(id keep Brad for now, consistant) RVP thats it . Even JackW would struggle getting in our midfield, wouldnt be a guarenteed starter so there you have it….

You got Angela Murkled bruv. Arsenal were total GASH against an average Spurs team. Had Spurs been firing full throttle (I’m talking Defoe, Adebayor, Bale and, when fit, Lennon), it could have been 4 or 5-2 to Spurs (I’ll even give you Gervinho’s shocker). Whinger and the Arsenal fans a disgrace to football…singing death songs to Ade (Spurs sang Ade offensively, yes but not racist or downright evil, unlike Arsenal fans), poor, very poor. Handball ? Yeah, it touched Rafa’s chest, shoulder and very top of the arm all at once, what are you going to do, get a tape measure out and tell me it was 2 mm handball ? Muppets. What about the days when Petit and Viera used to cheat for a living, selective memory syndrome. Then Whinger refusing to shake hands (again)…disgraceful manager. Poor Arsenal fans, hope Blackburn will finish above you…the worm has turned my inbred cousins, North London is Ours !

      As a Spurs fan I have to say that I am really concerned. Arsenal rivalry excites me like many other fans, but 95% expected an easy win yesterday including William Hill & Paddy Power. The sad reality is Arsenal are not longer the threat they were, I honestly believe that they are like a Blackburn, Sunderland, Fulham or Everton. So where did this rapid dependancy all go wrong, and is the recovery likely soon;

      1. Arsenal success after the Henry & Bergkamp years has been limited, but they have challenged due to belief, confidence and a few world class players. Who are these players of recent years; Fabregas, Nasri, Clichy, Adebayor, Van Persie, Flamini, Kolo Toure, Lehman and Sol Campbell. Sure some have retired but I know Adebayor with Van Persie upfront and Fabregas Nasri and Flamini in the middle with Toure and the bookies odd would have looked very different. The simple truth is Arsenal fat cats have not invested in the squad, and panic buys of average players with the transfers of world class ones has destroyed the standard. Gervinho, Mertsaker, Oxlaide-Chamberlain, Santos & Arteta cost a staggering £48.8m which literally wipes out the funds from Fabregas and Nasri. These players are no better than the likes of Simpson, Bendtner, Eduardo, Eboue and Traore who left for peanuts. Like Spurs of the 80s and 90s you squandered massive transfers fees out with mediocrity in. The biggest mistake will follow in January when you buy Samba for £15m+ as another panic buy. Hindsight is easy but I am sure Suarez, Hazard, Aguerro, Cahill and Subotic would all have come if they had been aggressive in they aquisition policy instead of dithering for nearly a year.

2 Confidence is key for youngsters, and the managers blind arrogance can only breed disillusion. Shay Given was available for free to help school the young keeping talent, Surely Wes Brown would have been a better short term solution to shore up the defensive frailties and dare I say it Parker would have been ideal. The youngsters like Ramsey, Wilshire, Gibbs, Jenkinson, Walcott and Oxlaide-Chamberlain would thrive from the experienced players that were available. In addition who is the leader one might ask. I see no Viera, Bould or Henry personalties. There is no guts in the team and the depth is simply laughable when you look at the wider squad. The latest injury is typical of football and there is nothing left to provide back up. I ask you to honestly believe Spurs first XI is far better than Arsenal and even the 2nd XI is as good as the current Arsenal team. I expect some of you are shouting profanities at this post but let the independent decide who is better:

      First XI
      GK – Freidel
      LB – Assou Ekotto
      CB – King
      CB – Dawson
      LB – Walker
      LM – Bale
      CM – Modric
      CM – Sandro
      RM – Lennon
      CF – Adebayor
      CF – Defoe

      Second XI
      GK – Gomes
      LB – Rose
      CB – Gallas
      CB – Kaboul
      RB – Corluka
      LM – Krancjar
      CM – Huddlestone
      CM – Parker
      RM – Dos Santos
      ACM – Van Der Vaart
      CF – Pavlyuchenko

Yes you read that right, Van Der Vaart, Parker and Gallas would not get into the starting XI if we picked our best 4-4-2. There are young stars like Dos Santos, Kane, Livermore, Townsend, Caulker, Walker, Naughton, Bostock and I couldn’t even find a place for Pienaar, Bassong, Bentley or Jenas.

In summary Arsenal must get January right with Hazard & Cahill, and get someone like Rio Ferdinand to shore up the gaps and train up the youngsters. I believe Arsenal are set for a fall as Champions League revenues dry up after this season. They will blame Wenger but the issues are at board level right through the ranks to the players who act like mercenaries lacking devotion.

He put his arm out to controll the ball and it hits his biceps. No doubt that was a CLEAR handball. You need to see it from all angels. And you did sing extreme racist songs against adebayor too. his dad washes elephants and his mom is a whore? How is that not racist too you? Stupid scum! A goalkeeper and referee mistake doesnt mean you are better than us. We havent even played you at the emirates yet. At the end of the day, your final position in the league is what makes you the better, and you havent been above us 4ever. U will never be as mighty as the arsenal. Numbers back me up very clearly!

Whilst there may be some debate, you obviously are a dumb f**k if you thing it was a CLEAR handball. I’ve watched the replay several times and to me, even with the advantage of TV replays, which the ref doesn’t have, it looks like the ball hit VDV’s INNER shoulder, which would NOT be handball according to the rules.

As a Spurs fan the victory was great but I think the comments around Arsenal are a little dramatic, no doubt there are significant issues but which team could sell two influential midfielders and not see an effect? The greater problems are in defence, however you Vermalen to come back who is outstanding and Wilshire who is one of the best in the country. As I have told many Arsenal fans the changes are more with Spurs who have built a high quality squad and have some world class talent, it’s more a case of us catching you than you getting worse. My guess is when all is said and done there will be one or two places separating the teams in May…………hopefully a little more balanced than some of the other responses, albeit I share there joy in beating you!

As a Spurs fan, I would say that Arsenal played better than us and a draw was a fair result, but when the chips are down these things happen. You have enough quality to get back up there, but its about confidence. As a side note, Frances Coquelin looks a real talent. He needs to play more often for you.

Much as I enjoyed the win over Arsenal yesterday, Arsenal and Spurs’ common enemies are now the likes of Chelski and Moneybags City.. Arsenal have been more of a victim than Spurs from these blank cheque clubs, but we are both, and in fact the entire rest of the league – suffering and being outdone by these two clubs that have entirely bought the positions they now enjoy – despite have none of the history of the two North London greats.

“One swallow doesn’t make a summer” as I tell my girlfriend.
Spurs were and are marginally better, made more opportunities, but essentially had more self belief. The line between success and failure is often very narrow (the width of a rouble backed goal-line at Cheatski)

Arsenal played much better and it would be a foolish journo or inexperienced Spurs fan that would write them off. Arsenal have a lot of quality, but lack leaders and on field organisation.
As a true Spurs footballing fan, I would rather see them succeed playing the right way, than the “Buy it All’ merchants of Citieh and Chavski. (One place behind us obviously).

Much as Wenger irritates me, he is THE most successful manager in Arse history and don’t harp back to GG days. The team played rubbish football then. Meanwhile I hope that the future is Lilywhite. COYS

I’m old enough to remember us singing ” Your just a murderer Sunderland Sunderland” to Alan Sunderland after he had run over some poor old dear, North/South London derbies are passionate games , take that away and we may as well give it all over to the plastic middle class fans!! . Us Yids cant take the moral high ground here as we are as bad and probably worse then the Nomads but then again we have a lot more old school fans that still go to the games, most gooners i know sit in the pub by the ground and i don’t blame them, would you pay over the odds to sit in that plastic blow full of plastic fans with their brand new scarves wrapped round the necks? Turkey neck Arry as called us scum more then once so for a gooner to call us it means nothing. What comes around, goes around… Gooners have been
laughing at WHL for ages… now they will swallow the
shame for failing to learn humility and sportsmanship in
the game. Adebayor is a good example for showing the
true spirit in the sport. It’s not who you play against, it’s
about what you play for. Time for Spurs to rise and to
Gooner-fans, learn your manners and the fact that
stepping on rival’s heads earn you no respect.
